Eddie Howe has urged Newcastle United chiefs to stay at St James’ Park after a recent survey from the club put forward the possibility of building a new stadium elsewhere.
Many fans were outraged on social media by the mere suggestion of moving ground, although the club have since confirmed that it was just a hypothetical question and there are no plans to develop a new stadium, as of yet.
When asked about the prospect of moving, Howe was adamant that St James’ Park is the ‘heartbeat of the city’ and that a redevelopment of the current stadium may be a better option to increase capacity.
It would be difficult to find a way to expand given where the ground is situated, but those at the club will already be exploring every possibility to see how they can fit more people in. Here’s what Howe’s had to say on the matter:
“My ideal would be that we stay at St James’ Park. The stadium is iconic and where it’s situated in the city, there is nothing else like it. It’s the heartbeat of the city.
“It’s the thing you can see more than any other. Personally, I wouldn’t want to see that change. We would like a bigger stadium though, we’d like more people to be able to come and see us, so redevelopment would be my ideal.
“That’s my opinion without discussing it with anyone. It’s an unbelievable place to play football so I wouldn’t want to lose that. Space is a problem with where it’s situated in the heart of the city, but ideally there are things we can do to get more people in.
“I wouldn’t want to see the stadium move out of the city, it would lose something. Those are my own personal feelings, that might be different to what the club thinks.”

the crrent stadium S J P is too small the sooner these owners realise this the better we may never get the chance again to get a brand new stadium we hane not won anything there since 1955 so to say it S J P got real history is a dream and its the point for us to build a new stadium .

I think you should look at staying at the stadium for now if not give it to the rugby union team and the rugby league team
