According to reports in Spain, Newcastle United are showing interest in Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili ahead of the January transfer window.
Fichajes claim that the La Liga side are in ‘considerable debt’ and may be forced to sell one of their star players this winter to raise funds.
It’s believed Newcastle, Spurs and Man Utd are all big admirers of the highly-rated 23-year-old, who appears to be available in light of Valencia’s financial troubles.
Elsewhere, French outlet L’Equipe report that Hugo Lloris would be ‘tempted’ to join Newcastle United on a short-term deal should we reignite our interest in the Spurs stopper.
They report that he turned down a summer move to St James’ Park as he wasn’t interested in being a back-up option to Nick Pope. However, it’s thought he’d happily sign until the end of the season after falling down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.
With Pope ruled out for the next 4-5 months following shoulder surgery and Martin Dubravka conceding seven in our last two games, it’s believed the club are now considering their options ahead of the January window. Whether it’s a permanent bid for Mamardashvili or short-term moves for De Gea or Lloris, I’d be surprised if another goalkeeper didn’t sign over the coming month.
