Lewis Hall is eligible to face Chelsea ahead of tomorrow’s cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge, but Harvey Barnes has been ruled out of next month’s Tyne and Wear derby.
Parent club rules don’t apply in the Carabao Cup and Chelsea are understood to have already granted permission for the teenager to feature.
It remains to be seen if Eddie Howe will select the 19-year-old after he failed to feature in our 3-0 win over Fulham, but we’ll be without Harvey Barnes and Elliot Anderson for a few more weeks yet.
Howe revealed this morning that Barnes is ‘hopeful’ of returning in ‘4-5 weeks’, while Anderson has been to see another specialist after suffering a setback in his recovery from a stress fracture in his back.
Here’s what the boss had to say on those injuries, adding that Matt Targett is progressing through rehab after an operation on his hamstring:
Howe on Barnes – “That will be an ongoing process with Harvey. He’s hopeful to come back within four to five weeks. That is the latest on him.”
Howe on Anderson – “Elliot’s went to see another specialist to see where he stands. It’s a difficult injury for him because he hasn’t been able to do too much with a stress fracture in his back. It’s healing slowly as those injuries tend to do. The second opinion was the same as the first, if that makes sense, which is a good thing. Slightly frustrating in terms of timescales.
Howe on Targett – “Matt is straight forward. Had an operation on his hamstring and is sticking to his rehab.”
