Newcastle have reportedly identified Brentford director Phil Giles as a possible replacement for Dan Ashworth, should Manchester United lure him away from St James’ Park.
This comes from Graeme Bailey, who has told HITC that Giles is highly-rated behind the scenes on Tyneside following his impressive work with the Bees; who’ve been transformed from a mid-table Championship side to a solid Premier League outfit during his eight and a half years at the club.
It’s believed Man Utd are yet to make any official approach for Ashworth, but Newcastle will be very much aware of their growing interest, requiring us to look at possible replacements for the 52-year-old, should any move materialise.
Interestingly, Giles was born and raised in Newcastle. He’s a lifelong Toon fan and comes from a family of Newcastle supporters, most of whom still live in the North East.
A move to St James’ Park would offer huge appeal to the Brentford director, but we’ll have to hope it doesn’t come to that and Ashworth stays to finish the job he started alongside Eddie Howe.
Understand that Newcastle have been impressed with the work of Brentford’s director of football Phil Giles.

Why are we caving in to Man U if they come after Ashworth! Wont Ashworth have more loyalty towards us since the club went out their way to pay his release clause? We are more stable and structured plus he has been on the job for a year. I personally like Dan Ashworth and how well he has negotiated and recruited players for both the first team and future prospects. He is an invaluable member of our club and should be considered indispensable.
