New club join race to sign Newcastle United target Kalvin Phillips – Reports

According to Football Insider and the Northern Echo, Tottenham are considering a loan move for top Newcastle United target Kalvin Phillips this month.

They report that Phillips has been placed on Tottenham’s list of January targets, adding that they would have no problem paying the £6m loan fee Newcastle are currently reluctant to meet.

With Phillips struggling for game time and looking destined to leave the Etihad, it’s almost certain that he will be playing his football elsewhere time next month, but who that will be is still uncertain.

Ourselves and Spurs are keen to bring in some fresh legs into the midfield having dealt with their own respective injury crisis’ this season. We are currently missing the likes of Joelinton, Joe Willock, Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali, while Postecoglou is without Giovani Lo Celso (thigh), James Maddison (ankle), Yves Bissouma (AFCON) and Pape Sarr (AFCON).

If it’s true that Tottenham have joined the race for his signature, we’ll have to hope our long-term interest and likely offer of more game time tempt him to Tyneside. However, that will only mean so much if we refuse to match Man City’s demands.

  1. Newcastle United have to sell the loan players. Hayden and Frazer. Lower clubs want Newcastle to foot the wage bill and to take advantage. They should muster up the 7.5 needed. Or Teuban Bros should buy in.
