According to The Guardian’s Ed Aarons, Newcastle United want £30m for Miguel Almiron following ‘ongoing talks’ with Saudi side Al-Shabab. However, it seems Miggy himself wants to remain on Tyneside.
Both Craig Hope at The Mail and Sky Sports’ Keith Downie have revealed that the 29-year-old ‘prefers to stay’ at St James’ Park this month and is settled in the North East.
Downie accepts that Almiron is the ‘most likely’ to leave, with Newcastle rejecting recent approaches for Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson, but it’s now believed all three could end up staying unless the Paraguayan’s stance changes and/or Al-Shabab submit a higher offer that comes closer to Newcastle’s £30m asking price.
Here’s what both Hope and Downie have had to say just a few moments ago:
Craig Hope (The Mail) – ‘Word this morning is that Almiron prefers to stay & Saudi club would have to up offer anyway. Bayern haven’t given up on Trippier but player will not agitate for move & it would need NUFC to accept offer, which they insist won’t be happening.’
Keith Downie (Sky Sports) – ‘On NUFC potential exits, I wouldn’t be surprised to see all three of Trippier/Wilson/Almiron stay this window. There’s no “fire sale”: clubs have tried to take advantage of Newcastle’s need to sell-to-buy by testing the water. But Newcastle won’t sell on the cheap, they’ll only do so if the offer is one they can’t refuse. Also take into account that there’s so many injuries that selling multiple players will leave a huge problem. Almiron the most likely of the trio to leave this month but told he’s settled at the club and isn’t looking to move.’
Understand that Newcastle want £30m for Miguel Almiron. Talks ongoing with Saudi club Al-Shabab

If we get £30m for Miggy I’ll be calling for an FFP investigation!! 😂
I think we’ve been offered £17m initial – I’m sure something slightly over £20m can be agreed
