Fabrizio Romano: Newcastle eyeing free transfer if Arsenal talks collapse

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle United are one of five clubs eyeing a summer move for Amario Cozier-Duberry should the teenage sensation fail to agree a new deal at Arsenal.

He reports that the Gunners are in talks to tie the 18-year-old to a new contract, with his current deal due to expire at the end of the 2023/24 season.

If those talks collapse, Romano reveals that Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, Anderlecht and Wolves are all ‘showing interest’ in an end-of-season deal for the winger, who could be available on a free transfer.

The England U19 international has been compared to Bukayo Saka, scoring an impressive seven goals across 12 appearances in the Premier League 2 and UEFA Youth League this season.

Speaking to The Athletic about the youngster, U18 boss Jack Wilshere said: “Amario is very exciting and Mikel likes him. He reminds me of Bukayo Saka, plays in the same position as him, needs to get better with his decision-making like Bukayo did, but he’s definitely exciting.

“In some moments he’s unplayable. You give him the ball and he can make things happen. You can set up a team and have a game plan, but when you’ve got individuals like that you’ve got a chance.”
