Anthony Gordon injury update – Good and bad news on Thursday morning

According to The Athletic, Anthony Gordon’s ankle injury is ‘far less serious’ than originally feared – but it’ll be enough to keep him out of Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

The winger was forced off at half-time in last weekend’s 4-4 draw with Luton and was spotted leaving St James’ Park on crutches.

Eddie Howe suggested it was a twisted ankle after the game, but there were fears behind the scenes that he may be facing a spell on the sidelines. However, after scans this week, there’s no significant damage and he is expected to be back in action next week.

That said, The Athletic report that Saturday’s 5.30pm kick-off at the City Ground is ‘likely to come too soon’ for the 22-year-old, meaning Harvey Barnes could come in for his first start since our 8-0 win at Sheffield United earlier in the season.

So, good news to hear it’s nothing serious for Gordon – who should be back for next weekend’s clash with Bournemouth – but a shame our player of the season so far will likely miss out at Forest.
