Newcastle dealt Sandro Tonali blow and another Mag at risk of surgery – Report

According to Craig Hope at The Mail, Sandro Tonali will NOT be allowed to feature in Newcastle’s pre-season friendlies over the summer.

The midfielder’s 10-month ban will end in late August, meaning he is set to miss the opening two games of the 2024/25 season, starting on August 17th later this year.

Newcastle had been hoping he could take part in fixtures across our pre-season schedule, but the terms of his ban for breaching gambling rules mean he can not play any game played in the public domain. He can however take part in a behind closed doors match.

Tonali is also still awaiting the outcome of a Football Association investigation into whether he gambled on football after completing a summer move from AC Milan last year.

Isak set for groin surgery?

Hope also reports that Alexander Isak could go under the knife at the end of the season to sort his troublesome groin issue.

He is close to returning and has a slim chance of making the bench for today’s 3pm kick-off with Bournemouth, but it’s been a reoccurring issue that could be dealt with once the season ends; especially now Sweden have failed to qualify for this summer’s Euros.

Callum Wilson had surgery on his pectoral muscle on Friday and is set to miss the next 9-12 weeks. There’s a growing feeling the 31-year-old will be sold this summer now he’s approaching the final 12 months of his contract, so it’s vital we get Isak fully fit and over this ongoing groin problem in the coming months.

  1. How is this a blow Olly?
He’s not even allowed to train with the squad, so why would he be allowed to play in friendlies during the ban?

  2. How is this even a blow, we have known as soon as he was found guilty what his punishment was, how long he would be out, the restrictions on playing any football etc etc.
Again p### poor reporting of the highest order by Craig Hopeless utter 💩
The so called journalists that cover us do nothing but scare monger and try and undermine us for the sake of click bait, useless.
