Newcastle loanee scores superb goal – Good news for Howe ahead of summer clear-out

Whether he signs permanently at Southampton or not, Ryan Fraser’s recent form is good news for Newcastle in our bid to sell the unwanted winger.

The Scottish international scored his eighth of the season in impressive fashion on Friday night (watch below), volleying a side-footed finish back across goal and into the bottom corner in a huge 2-0 win at West Brom for the promotion-chasing Saints.

It’s unclear if Southampton can afford a permanent deal and Fraser will enter the final 12 months of his Newcastle contract when he returns in June, but his displays in the Championship should boost our hopes of receiving a half-decent fee.

Speaking about Fraser’s future last month, Saints boss Russell Martin had this to say when asked if a permanent move was likely: “I don’t know, it’s out of my remit really. Would I like to make it permanent? Yes. The chance of that happening I think, because of the finances involved, the timing and his situation, is low.

“I don’t know if it will be feasible right now but he just needs to keep doing what he is doing, he is in a really good place and enjoying it.

“We will see but I am pretty sure he would love to stay here beyond this season.”
