Dan Ashworth tells Newcastle United he wants out – Sunday night update

Newcastle United Sporting Director Dan Ashworth has today asked to leave the club, putting the ball in Manchester United’s court to make an approach.

The 52-year-old was in attendance at the Magpies 2-2 draw against Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday. But that may have been the last public appearance as a Newcastle employee.

According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, Ashworth has now informed the club he wants to leave.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed personal terms with Ashworth, it is now up to the club to meet the terms of buying out his contract, which is reportedly seven figures.

Since the minority stake takeover by the Sir Jim Ratcliffe lead group INEOS, The Red Devils search for a new Technical Director has made serious headway. Man United are expected to make a formal approach next week.

Ashworth joined Newcastle in February 2022 from Brighton. He previously spent time at the FA, West Brom, Cambridge United and Peterborough.

  1. If someone steals £20 from you, it’s a cheap price to find out what kind of person they are. He has just made it clear that he is unprincipled, disloyal, self seeking and doesn’t see a job through. Good luck Man Utd, you are well suited to each other!
