Eddie Howe hits nail on the head – A message for the doubters ahead of Blackburn trip

Eddie Howe insists that this season “could still be very special for us” after suggestions our campaign has fizzled out following Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.

The boss was keen to remind fans that things “change very quickly” in football, realising that we are just 180 minutes away from an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Blackburn stand in our way tonight and results last night saw us slip to 10th in the Premier League, but with a few key players returning from injury, some kind fixtures to come and a determination to put things right behind the scenes, Howe is hopeful that “good things are around the corner” for Newcastle United.

It has been a tough season and our defensive frailties must improve to make this season a success, but Howe is right. Our season is anything but over when a trophy and European football is very much up for grabs, with us sitting just two points behind 7th.

“It’s a huge game for us.” Howe said. “We’re absolutely committed to the FA Cup to do well and have been all season. We’ve had two difficult games away from home to get to this stage and now another one. We’ve been looking forward to this game so we know how important it is.

“We’re still in the throes of deciding where this season will end up. Nothing’s decided either for or against us.

“For us, we need the players excited, ambitious, thinking brightly about the future not negatively. I’ve always got a positive outlook.

“The thing with football, I’ve been in it long enough to know that it changes very quickly, both for and against. That’s why you have to commit to everything you do.

“You have to be at the best you can every day. Hopefully if you do, there’s good things around the corner. This season could still be very special for us, but we need to make it happen.”

  1. To think there are any “kind” fixtures in the premiership as Luton, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth have proven would be folly.
The same goes for the F.A cup.
