Senior sources at Newcastle clarify Eddie Howe’s position – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Eddie Howe’s position at Newcastle United is ‘under no threat at all’ despite a poor run of form that saw us slip to 10th last night.

As revealed by Luke Edwards, senior sources insist his job is completely safe following Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal. It’s believed Howe retains a huge amount of support behind the scenes and will be given every chance to rebuild some momentum over the coming months.

Wolves’ win over Sheffield United on Sunday and West Ham’s 4-2 victory over Brentford on Monday night saw us slip to 10th in the league. After qualifying for the Champions League last season – which was an overachievement at the time – there’s a very real possibility we miss out on Europe altogether ahead of 2024/25.

Our stuttering form and inconsistent performances have to improve, as does our defence. Losing Nick Pope and Joelinton has been a huge blow, but to concede 23 goals in our last eight games is a real concern.

Last season, we had the joint best defence in the Premier League alongside Man City. We conceded just 33 times all season, yet we’ve let in 45 in 12 games less already this term. We aren’t learning from our mistakes, our midfield is wide open and St James’ Park no longer feels like a fortress after picking up two points from a possible nine at home to Nottingham Forest, Luton and Bournemouth.

I still have faith in Eddie Howe. He worked wonders last season and has overseen a club that’s been hit awfully with injuries, suspension, FFP issues and awful draws. He should, in my view, be given every chance to turn this around, but it does feel like we’ve entered an enormous week in our season.

  1. So what do you think senior sources are going to say? “Come May Eddies on his way!”?

Sorry, but if Howe doesn’t pull this together and finish 6th or 7th, he’ll be on his way.
Mandy and co are there just to put an acceptable face on it, but PIF will be looking for improvement.
