As revealed by The Telegraph, Newcastle United have held positive clear-the-air talks with Eddie Howe and will now press ahead with transfer plans with a list of targets drawn up.
Luke Edwards reports that the board were ‘alarmed’ by Howe’s comments last Friday as he revealed concerns over recent changes at the club and were eager to immediately address a situation threatening to leave our summer in limbo.
It’s believed Toon chiefs have reassured Howe that he WILL hold ‘significant power’ moving forward and have a key voice in recruitment meetings, with an agreement that he will be involved in all major decisions and that no deal will be forced on him following Paul Mitchell’s arrival as our new recruitment-focused Sporting Director. The Telegraph state that one of Howe’s key worries was our new transfer guru signing a player he did not want.
Now this has been settled, for now at least, Howe has agreed to receive a shortlist of players from Paul Mitchell as we prepare to crank up our pursuit of a right-sided centre-back and right-winger, with those named expected to be a mixture of overseas and domestic talents.
With doubts around Sean Longstaff and Callum Wilson’s future – both have just one year left on their current deals – it’s thought a midfielder and striker could also be targeted.

If this is true then I think it was a failing on the clubs part not to have had these talks before they all started talking to the media – a very foolish oversight imo.
I don’t believe that just because they were in Germany they didn’t know about Southgate & the speculation linking Howe to the England job.
If the first time they have spoken is AFTER Eales, Mitchell & Howe have given their interviews – that’s very naive imo.

Coming from Edwards I think you’ve got to take this with a pinch of salt. Mitchell will have been well acquainted with Howe after he visited training ground last week and likely had conversations away from there prior too. Eddie will be diplomatic to a point but he’s just probably looking for actions to speak louder than words and that only comes with time, not 2 minutes in the door.

He’s got a few wrong, but I don’t get the hate towards him. Gets more info than most and was first to break signings like Wood, Pope, Livramento and Trippier.

Gets way more wrong than right, hoovers up everything from chronic sites like tbr, footballfancast, footballinsider etc and the claims them as his own exclusives.
Prints mischief making click bait 90% of the time
You need to take your rose tinted love glasses off mate he’s what’s know as a snake oil salesman, absolutely steals a living.
I think you’ll find other people were responsible for those exclusives as well

We’ll agree to disagree mate. I don’t like some of what he posts and admit he’s got some badly wrong, but (again) he’s been the first to report on us signing Wood, Pope, Livramento and Trippier.
