Newcastle United have touched down in Tokyo, with the 29-man squad arriving in Japan after a long-haul flight on Sunday.
Before we get to the players absent – most of which have a good explanation – this is the group of players Eddie Howe has selected for upcoming games on Tuesday and Saturday in the J.League Series:
Goalkeepers – Pope, Vlachodimos, Dubravka, Ruddy, Gillespie
Defenders – Burn, Schar, Kelly, Livramento, Hall, Ashby, Lewis, Krafth, Thompson, Heffernan.
Midfielders – Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton, Longstaff, Willock, Harrison, J.Miley, Turner-Cooke.
Attackers – Isak, Barnes, Almiron, J.Murphy, Sanusi, , Parkinson.
Now for the players absent, where we’ve counted 13 Mags not involved in our trip to Asia.
Injured – Callum Wilson (back), Lewis Miley (broken foot), Sven Botman (ACL), Jamaal Lascelles (ACL), Matt Targett (Achilles rehab), Joe White (back)
Granted extended break – Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon
Not in Howe’s plans – Ryan Fraser, Isaac Hayden
No explanation / potential loan lined up? – Garang Kuol, Alex Murphy, Miodrag Pivas
Bruno Guimaraes has rejoined the squad from his extended break, Paul Mitchell has travelled – presumably to continue recruitment talks with Howe and assess squad – while loan coordinator Shola Ameobi can also be seen in the video below.
Our first game of the Japan tour sees us take on Urawa Reds (Wednesday, 31 July, 11:30 BST) before facing Yokohama F. Marinos on Saturday 3 August (13:00 BST).

What the hell is Shola doing there shouldn’t be be back home arranging loans, it’s no wonder the loan deals he touches turn to 💩

What like the Minteh one where we bought him for 6 mill, sent him on LOAN for one season and then got 33 mill for him? Yeah! Utter 💩 🤦♂️

Pork pie – to be fair mate, you look at the list of players who have flown out & around half could easily go out on loan.
It makes sense he’s there on hand to discuss with Howe how he wants these players developed so he can work on finding the right club for them.

One player that by all accounts had nothing to do with getting that loan but hey

It’s all very well saying that but the likes of Kuol has been left behind yet our loan coordinator is in Japan.
Anyone who thinks Shola is a top loan coordinator needs to give their heed a wobble he’s useless.
Talk to ex younguns and see how good they rate him, we need to stop this BS jobs for the boys and give it to people that know what they’re doing.

Feyenoord approached us and it had very little to do with Shola except to write it off not one bit of that loan was his doing except oking it, so before you facepalm know your facts and give yourself a facepalm ..

I would suspect that Garang Kuol and Miodrag Pivas are not on the trip, because like almost every other player coming in they have been deemed not fit enough and are back home doing fitness training.
