We are now at the end of July and edging closer to the start of the new season. Things are finally starting to take shape in the transfer market for a lot of clubs and it seems like Newcastle United is finally taking some steps to boost their squad. We will start with some positive news as the lads comfortably brushed aside Japanese side Urawa Reds in a pre-season friendly. Despite the humidity, the Magpies emerged victorious with goals from Alexander Isak, a brace from Jacob Murphy, and a final strike from Lewis Hall. The match saw Joe Willock and Sean Longstaff make a surprising return to the starting lineup, having been cautiously managed throughout the summer due to injury concerns. Both players were substituted at halftime, but not before Willock played a crucial role in the first half, demonstrating his value to the team. Willock’s interception and assist to Murphy helped Newcastle regain the lead before the break, providing a boost for the team and easing concerns about his fitness.
Despite the numerous goals scored by Newcastle, it was goalkeeper Nick Pope who was arguably the standout performer. Pope made a remarkable penalty save and denied several key attempts, including shots from Rio Nitta and Thiago Santos. His performance solidified his position as the first-choice goalkeeper for the upcoming Premier League season (not that I had too much doubt about this), despite previous doubts about his fitness following a shoulder injury. Recent signings John Ruddy and Odysseas Vlachodimos have joined to provide support, but Pope’s form makes him the clear starter.
Newcastle United Reportedly Bid €80 Million for Real Madrid’s Arda Güler
This one came as a bit of a surprise to me, but if it’s true then it shows great ambition from our famous club. Apparently Newcastle United have reportedly made an €80 million (£67 million) offer for Real Madrid’s highly-rated Turkish midfielder, Arda Güler. This news comes from Defensa Central, relayed through CaughtOffside, and suggests that The Toon is keen to secure the services of the talented youngster.
Güler, who joined Real Madrid amid much fanfare at the time of signing for the Spanish giants, has struggled with injuries and has yet to make a significant impact at the Santiago Bernabéu. This situation, coupled with the arrival of superstars Kylian Mbappe and Endrick, has intensified the competition for midfield places, potentially leaving Güler in a precarious position regarding his future at the club. This could be brilliant for Newcastle United and may well provide the youngster with the platform he needs to take his playing career to the next level as it seems it will be much harder for him to get game time now in Spain.
