BBC release new Marc Guehi quotes on Newcastle interest and Crystal Palace future

After speaking to Sky Sports yesterday, the BBC have now released new quotes from Marc Guehi after Newcastle United had a third bid worth £60m rejected for the Crystal Palace centre-back this week.

Speaking directly about Newcastle and the transfer talk, he told BBC Football Focus: “If I had a magic wand to sort everything out in an instant I would, but I don’t. I’m aware still of the attention, but you can’t control any exterior noise. All I can control is the controllables. I can just focus on my football and giving my best.”

The first line felt quite telling. Either that’s a hint he’s keen to get the move completed or he’s eager for clarity one way or another, whether he’s to stay at Selhurst Park or move to St James’.

Guehi continued, admitting that he’s stopped trying to map out his career, despite have a “few goals” that he’s not reached in his career just yet: “I have stopped trying to figure out where I end up [in my career] because you can get too wrapped up in those things,” he said.

“I’ve had a few goals that didn’t go quite right, saying at this age I should be here. That’s a bit too presumptuous. Everyone has their own journey.”

  1. I used to work for a guy who had a rather odd turn of phrase.
His classics included “why have a dog and whistle yourself” and “you hit the nail right between the eyes”. While these were amusing, he often caused problems when he tried to put together a serious memo.
On a shift with Engineers and Technicians we came on duty one night to read an instruction that went something like “Engineers only are to call head office when the interfaces need to be reset”.
Next morning I got a bollocking because I had called head office for a software download, and he bawled me out saying “that memo clearly says you do not call head office for software downloads”.
“No it doesn’t. It clearly says that techs are not to call head office.”
I assumed the “only” told us that only Engineers and not techs, should make the call, while he actually meant that the “only” was attached to the interfaces, and clearly stated that we should be calling head office “only” for line resets, and nothing else.
    Relevence?

I have to ask, why were the BBC speaking to Sky Sports?
