Marc Guehi saga takes late twist as Crystal Palace strike £30m deal with Fulham

Newcastle’s pursuit of Marc Guehi has taken another twist as Crystal Palace look set to sell centre-back partner Joachim Andersen.

As revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Fulham have now reached agreement in principle with Crystal Palace to sign Joachim Andersen for a fee of £30m including add-ons.

Newcastle have been working on a deal for Guehi over the past fortnight, with our last bid thought to be £60m plus £5m in add-ons. However, the fact Andersen looks set to join Fulham could leave our move for Guehi in doubt, as Palace seem unlikely to cash in on both of their first choice centre backs.

Speaking last week, Palace chairman Steve Parish said: “There’s been a bit of interest in Joachim as well. Obviously, that’s an interesting one because I can’t imagine a situation where we would lose both of our centre-halves.”

It’s yet to be confirmed, but I’d be surprised if Palace now entertained a deal for Guehi, unless we returned with a mega offer for the England international.

Time to move on and pursue other options?

  1. If this is true they have really been totally disrespectful to us. Still think we should have pulled out before we got to this stage, now leaving us short of time to get someone in. But you would think PM would have others ready to fall back on. What a saga. Hwtl

  2. Newcastle need to put forth their energies elsewhere instead of on Marc Guehi. Crystal Palace has played games with this transfer. Guehi’s last game was not impressive. Let’s put our energies else where guys.

  3. Someone in the hierarchy should go if this summer transfer window turns into the sham the 30th June deadline was.

To not have a credible backup plan to Guehi is unforgivable. Tapsoba isn’t leaving Leverkusen in the UCL after walking the league with Xabi Alonso to come to a team that isn’t even in Europe. And Disasi is a Chelsea flop, and would be disastrous signing.

Someone within our executive structure should be held to account and should have 9 days to save their job.

  5. Good news over rated and over priced ..,despite the doomsayers Newcastle will buy a good centre back and maybe a winger in the next few weeks with money to spare for January … fact is psr.. etc is there to prevent Newcastle and villa to spend big money.. the prem league is a cartel monopoly
