Newcastle move for Bayer Leverkusen & Chelsea stars as Marc Guehi alternative – Report

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Newcastle United are discussing moves for Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Chelsea’s Axel Disasi as potential alternatives to Marc Guehi.

He reports that we’ve ‘stepped up conversations’ to pursue other options in case a deal for the Crystal Palace defender cannot be agreed, with the Eagles seeking £70m after our latest offer worth £65m was turned down.

Ornstein reports that the ‘door is not closed’ on a deal for Guehi just yet, despite Palace agreeing to sell centre-back partner Joachim Andersen to Fulham for £30m last night, but it’d believed contingency plans have now been intensified.

The Athletic report that we’ve been in talks with Leverkusen over a possible deal for Tapsoba, with the 25-year-old someone Newcastle were briefly linked with last summer before he helped Xabi Alonso’s side win the Bundesliga.

France international Axel Disasi is another player Newcastle have expressed an interest in. He too was linked last summer and is a player Paul Mitchell will know well, with our sporting director bringing him to Monaco in 2020.

  1. Imo premier clubs who do not want us to succeed and who were frightened of the wealth PIF possess have stopped us spending it and are just stringing us along.
The only Premiership clubs who sell to us have the Newcastle Tax or sell (like Chelsea) who we are unable to compete with.

  2. Newcastle are not going to get anyone!
These deals should have been done weeks ago.
Why did the club dispense with Amanda and Mehrdad when they did effectively derailing the window?
Makes you wonder whether they ever had any intentions of signing anyone and the upheaval used as an excuse not to do business.
The players signed in this window are identical to the ones made by promoted clubs, this is very worrying!

  3. Why did the club dispense with Amanda and Mehrdad

They were probably deemed to be at fault for the PSR debacle, though neither them or the Saudis will ever disclose that.

  4. Nobody dispensed with anyone ., stavely planned to move on then as she stated in multiple interviews .. ..childish doomsayer comments be patient .. Liverpool
And others have not set the transfer market a light either .. both alternatives mentioned are top class and cheaper than over hyped over priced guei

  5. Guehi is not worth anything close to the amount of money palace are asking, we should have walked away from the deal weeks ago but after his last two games and being at fault for three goals against palace in there last two games, well like Kalvin Phillips we may just have doged another bullet. £70m would bring in two world class centre backs and the transfer window is ready to slam shut so if I had ambitions of a top four finish I would be bringing in new faces especially in light of that performance against Southampton. If we fail to bring in new faces we’re not going to be in Europe next season either.

That’s odd she only stated that in her last interview after leaving, the other times she stated they would become less hands on and take a back seat not leave the club.
