Big claims on Marc Guehi as former Crystal Palace star speaks on Sky Sports

Former Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison feels “100%” certain that Marc Guehi will sign for Newcastle United next week.

Despite claims that we’re ‘edging closer’ to a deal for the Eagles captain, Guehi started in their 2-0 defeat to West Ham yesterday; a clear sign that we’re yet to agree a fee for the £70m-rated centre-back.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Saturday afternoon, Morrison said: “He will be at Newcastle next week, 100%. Marc Guehi will be a Newcastle player next week. I think it will happen. It will definitely happen. That’s my opinion – 100% it will happen. They’re not miles apart.

“That’s Eddie Howe’s No.1 target, he didn’t have anyone else in mind. He said to his board, ‘go and get Marc Guehi’. He’s got two years left at Palace. To try and get something like £70m for Marc Guehi…I think he’d be fantastic.”

It may be true that we aren’t “miles apart” when it comes to a fee – a gap of £5m was reported a few days ago – but there’s only so long we can wait until other targets are seriously pursued, especially with the summer window shutting on Friday.

Palace boss Oliver Glasner didn’t sound too happy with the ongoing transfer uncertainty after they suffered back-to-back defeats to start the season following West Ham’s win at Selhurst Park.

In his post-match interview, he said: “Maybe we have too much troubles and noise around the club, in the club, in the dressing room. This is what we have to change.”

  1. Who the hell is Clinton Morrison anyway, there are too many ex pros giving their value less opinions.
No way is Guehi a £70 million player and if we pay that it will be the biggest sucker punch of the Summer.
There is far better value out there and with PSR that’s what we should be looking at from a business perspective.

  2. Marc Guehi, was one of the star performers of the England squad. Remember he was playing against WORLD CLASS players and didn’t look out of the place. As for PSR, tell me a more sensible solution??? There isn’t one, in 2-3 years he will be worth over 100million and that’s not good business!!! ???!
Hope the board break the bank for him. Good luck Eddie…
