Marc Guehi saga finally set for resolution after more Newcastle talks – Report

We’ve heard this before, but it sounds like Newcastle United are finally closing in on the signing of Marc Guehi.

Sami Mokbel – The Mail’s chief reporter who has been covering the Guehi saga for several weeks now – reports that the centre-back’s future will be ‘resolved in the next 48 hours’, with there now a ‘significant chance’ that Newcastle’s latest formal offer will be accepted by Crystal Palace after discussions on Monday.

It’s believed we are now in ‘advanced talks’ over a deal worth £70m and that an agreement is close, meaning it could now be up to Guehi himself to agree personal terms and commit to a move to St James’ Park. It’s been previously reported that the 24-year-old is keen on the move and that wages will not be a problem, so it seems like a goer if we finally agree a fee.

Crystal Palace play Norwich tonight in the Carabao Cup. Knowing Newcastle’s ambitions to win a trophy, I don’t think we will be dropping £70m on a cup-tied Marc Guehi, so it’ll be a telling sign if he’s missing from their squad later on.

  1. Assuming this one does go through:-
I don’t know how many players have flattered to deceive in big tournaments and been bought on the strength of it.
I just hope he turns out to be worth the transfer fee from a PSR & Club prospective it would be a disaster if he isn’t.
We also need, if it wasn’t obvious by now, a right winger who can consistently deliver performances that help take us to the next level.

  2. I would be very happy with the signing even if the price is a bit ridiculous. My hope was this would be followed up with the signing of Madueke from Chelsea but after his hat trick I doubt that would happen now.

  3. I’m sorry, but he’s just not worth 70 million. He’s had one good season and tournament and there are far better options out there for just a fraction of the money. The best signing Toon fans could possibly ask for would be to get Mandy & Mehrdad back.

Guehi has performed very well for Palace over the last couple of seasons though, it wasn’t just the Euros, they simply raised his profile and price. He’d be worth £55M any day of the week. We’re having to pay a premium for him as he’s 24, captain of the club and they wanted to keep him.
Palace will struggle to get a defender that can ease into the Premier league, so Gomez will no doubt be heading there along with Lacraoix. This will give them money to get those players and Nketiah, so I’d see it as great business by us over the long term.

As someone pointed out elsewhere look at it as we have got 2 really good CBs in him and Kelly for a outlay of 70m in transfer fees.Bargain 😁

You mean great business for Palace!
Their defence wasn’t that much better than ours and we had a shed load of injuries, so those figures don’t suggest he is a world beater.

  7. If guei is signed then expect the he was not worth the money 6 months from now and Howe will need to go .. the last few matches show low table clubs have worked out his tactics and the fact we have 5 keepers no new winger and an over priced mid table centre back is concerning .. hope I am wrong but the momentum that the club had is fading fast

  8. I suppose technically Palace telling us to bog off would be a “resolution!”
