Newcastle reject £25m transfer link and two deals ‘unlikely’ in January – Report

It’s been a quiet start to January, but there have been plenty of links to right-wingers both domestically and on the continent.

As always is the case in the modern game the club has remained tight-lipped about potential incomings, but the latest information coming out of the club has been to talk down news about any arrivals.

With each passing day it seems more likely that Jacob Murphy will be entrusted with holding down the right-wing spot for the remainder of the season, however it’s clear we have a list of targets for the summer.

New link denied and two ‘unlikely’ to sign this month

According to The Athletic, Newcastle have ‘played down’ links with Man City winger James McAtee, while two other continental options are ‘unlikely’ to arrive this month.

The Mail reported earlier this month that Newcastle were admirers and alerted by a potential £25m price tag, but it’s believed he isn’t a player we plan to target in 2025 at this point.

Moving overseas, The Athletic’s Chris Waugh also adds that winter moves for PSV’s Johan Bakayoko and Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche ‘appear unlikely’ this month.

For the former of the two continental interests, it rehashes comments made by Bakayoko’s agent earlier in the month. Gerard Witters said his client “will not leave PSV this season, regardless of the amount

Akliouche is a longstanding interest of Newcastle United sporting director Paul Mitchell, and the 22-year-old may be one to watch heading into the summer.

Dibling and Mbeumo ones to watch this summer?

The Athletic have also further confirmed our interest in Premier League talents Tyler Dibling and Bryan Mbeumo – but it again appears that neither will be packing their bags and moving to the north east this winter.

Our interest in Dibling goes back to before he made his professional debut, having scored a hat-trick against us at youth level, and has been ‘watched’ for a prospective deal. However, the 18-year-old is not deemed a priority this month.

A January move for Mbeumo feels a bit of a stretch in what would be an ‘expensive and complicated’ transfer, according to Waugh. The Bees have a track record for being hard sellers who will be reluctant to offload their top-scorer mid-season, and with interest unlikely to disappear before the summer there will be plenty of prospective buyers for the 25-year-old.

Arsenal are also said to be interested in the Cameroonian, and they may be more likely to meet the Bees’ demands this month with Bukayo Saka sidelined until March.

  1. Dibbling, Mbuemo, McAtee, Trafford and a CB would be an exceptional summer window. Do I think it will happen? Maybe not.
