In a window full of insufficient funds (from a PSR perspective) and failed approaches, Newcastle have again missed out on a top youngster to a Premier League rival.
Over the past fortnight, reports have revealed Paul Mitchell’s interest in overseas talents Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Juma Bah, only for PSR issues to stand in our way as all three ended up at Man City instead.
Now, it seems another teenage talent identified by our sporting director is Premier League bound.
Brighton agree £22m deal
Early in January, Sky Germany reported that Newcastle United were battling Brighton, Aston Villa and Chelsea for the signature of 19-year-old striker Stefanos Tzimas.
However, it looks like we’ve missed out to the Seagulls as Fabrizio Romano reveals that Brighton have now agreed a £22m deal with 2.Bundesliga side FC Nürnberg.
The Greek forward has recorded 10 goals in Germany’s second division so far this season and is considered one of the top young forwards in Europe.
Alongside Will Osula, it appears that Tzimas would’ve been another project signing from Paul Mitchell, as well as a potential understudy to Alexander Isak now Callum Wilson is approaching the final few months of his Newcastle contract.
The youngster will see out the rest of the season in Nuremberg, before making the switch to Fabian Hürzeler’s side ahead of the 25/26 season.
Important summer ahead
After another quiet window for the vast majority of the Premier League, it would look like more and more clubs are gearing up to spend big and recruit heavily in the summer.
Can Newcastle afford, both literally and figuratively, stand back any longer and allow those around them to strengthen whilst wary of potential PSR violations?
Fans will be hoping that Tzimas’ transfer, alongside the likes of Khusanov and Reis, are merely just the ownership stockpiling funds ahead of a big summer, where the signing of right-winger must be a top priority after several underwhelming windows.

Jasper think the signing of a right sided center half has the same importance along with a striker, goalkeeper plus looking at the ageing players that will have to be replaced all carry the same importance as a right winger
