Heading into the summer window, Newcastle United has two main priorities.
The first being conducting a serious recruitment drive of Champions League-level talent, and the other being retaining the club’s very top players.
Whilst things have moved relatively slowly in terms of incoming players, the club has stood firm following interest in Tino Livramento, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, all of which are ‘not for sale.’
But the main man is of course Alexander Isak, who Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has demanded the club keep at all costs as we prepare to reward the Swede for a superb 2024/25 season.
Isak proposal imminent
The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has revealed when the club plans to sit down with Alexander Isak over a lucrative contract extension, and just what this ‘big-money’ deal entails.
Scheduled for July, it’s believed we aim to make Isak the club’s top earning player: a worthy reward for last season’s top goalscorer after over six months of clubs circling over his signature.
Having previously attached a reported £150m asking price for another club to even start negotiations, it feels like there was never really any doubt about where Isak would play his football next season, especially when we secured Champions League football.
Our current top earner is believed to be Bruno Guimaraes on around £160,000 a week, so it would be no surprise if Isak becomes our highest paid player ever with our upcoming offer set to eclipse that.
Newcastle’s response to Mbeumo demands
Whilst we are offering Isak a contract extension and significant wage boost, it’ll still feel relatively proportional to his ability as arguably the best striker in Europe.
The club has refused to make any exceptions when it comes to insane wage demands, something we didn’t anticipate being an issue when we were scouting Bryan Mbeumo earlier this summer.
Edwards writes: “Newcastle sensibly decided the Mbeumo deal was not worth pursuing. Privately, they have described Mbeumo’s wage demands as “enormous” and “impossible to match.”
With the Cameroonian reportedly seeking to earn over four times his current salary at Brentford, this would simply be incompatible with our approach – and now there’s of course a chance Mbeumo doesn’t even make the move to Old Trafford this summer as Spurs enter the mix!
