Club statement: Newcastle reply to Alexander Isak as £150m striker takes nuclear option

The Alexander Isak saga took perhaps the biggest twist yet on Tuesday night.

After missing the PFA awards ceremony, the poorly-advised Swede decided to go nuclear by breaking his silence on Instagram, saying: ”The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading.

“When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.”

One last desperate attempt to force a move? Well, it’s not gone down well on Tyneside, with the strongly-worded statement dealt with swiftly by Newcastle United, who have hit back with the following club statement:

‘We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening.

‘We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.

‘We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.’

‘We do not foresee those conditions being met.

‘This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.’

So, the key points:

  • The club are not happy with Isak’s bombshell statement
  • No club official has told Isak he can leave this summer
  • The club have told the player and his agent that we must act in the best interests of Newcastle, the team and fans; not just what’s best for Alexander Isak.
  • No club has matched our price tag and we don’t expect our demands to be met
  • Isak will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates

A strong and swift response from the club, who have set their stall out quite clearly and killed Isak with kindness.

  1. Poor behaviour from the player for sure. If only they’d been as strong swift and decisive in sorting out the board room this summer

  2. Gotta say, I’m actually impressed with the clubs response. They’ve refuted his claims and doubled down on the conditions of his sale, showing that this saga has not “forced” them into being willing to take a reduced fee, which is obviously what the player and other club were hoping and expecting. Let’s see how “ludicrous” John Aldridge sees that stance. I just hope that behind the scenes they are throwing the kitchen sink at him legally, and are fining him for every penny we can save. I get that the club are trying to keep him happy hoping for reintegration, but he will only be happy if he gets his way, therefore the tact needs to change as enough is enough.

  3. If he wanted out so badly hand in a transfer request 🤷🏼‍♂️ – but he won’t because it would be money out of his pocket.

Coincidental he’s saying it’s gone on this long but chooses to speak out the week leading up to us playing Liverpool – good luck reintegrating him back into that group of players now!!

  4. he couldn’t of played this any worse and this latest is just last desperate roll of the dice to force a move, which to me clearly isnt happening anymore. dont want to see him wearing the B&W anymore now, keep him in the ressies all season and let him miss out on a world cup. rat.

  5. I think that if Isak had actually informed the club of his desire to leave, they wouldn’t have let Wilson go. The season has started, and the club has zero specialized center-forwards. I hope he never plays at a high level again.

  6. speedstars helps players both practice their work organization skills and enjoy the fun of building and developing a supermarket in their own way.
