Tim Krul: “The good times are back at Newcastle”

Happy days for Krul
Tim Krul has taken time to speak to The Independent today about a number of things ranging from our season and how it may pan out, to Papiss Demba Cisse and his knack of finding the back of the net.

Krul has been one of my players of the season and has shown everyone the quality that he has. Signed to a new five-year deal, the Holland international seems happy enough with life at Newcastle and is looking forward to exciting times ahead.

“It’s incredible. The good times are back at Newcastle – just keep believing,” said Krul. “Bolton at home on Monday is a big opportunity. It’s about taking it one game at a time. Swansea away from home is not easy and to have come away with three points is great. Hopefully, with a sell-out crowd on Monday, we can get another three points.”

He continued: “We have to believe we can reach the Champions League and win our games. Bolton is the first one, then Stoke at home as well; those are the games we have to win to keep the pressure on the top four or five. Maybe we can sneak in but we have to take it game by game.”

“Where we are in the league shows what a good job Alan Pardew has done. Everyone is committed and wants to work for each other. We had a lot of new players coming in but they settled straight away and we haven’t had any problems,” Krul added.

Certainly some positive comments from our Dutch youngster, and they have a ring of truth to them of course, providing we carry on winning games. However with a striker in the form that Papiss Demba Cisse is in right now, I wouldn’t put it past us to beat anyone. What does Tim think of him though?

“He is scoring everything at the moment,” said Krul. “In training on Thursday he chipped Rob Elliott from 40 metres. He’s on fire and what a player to have bought.”

The chip from 40 yards sounds impressive doesn’t it? Unfortunately I’ve seen Rob Elliot move, or not, with my own eyes which takes some of the impressiveness away.

The point to this article is to highlight that this is the third player in the last few days to come out with aspirations such as this. Cheik Tiote and Yohan Cabaye have both spoke recently about Europe and what it would mean for them to get it, and with Tim Krul saying much the same it would appear that there is an undercurrent of ambition forming within our squad.

Which at this time of the season is a good thing!

  1. Supported Newcastle since 1967 and Krul is the best goal keeper i have seen at the club and for me he is running Joe Hart close for best keeper in the league.

  2. Krul’s had a brilliant season just like many others in the team. Was unsure of him last season but his confidence went right up over the summer. There’s been a lot of games now this season where we’ve managed to scrape a win thanks to Krul’s magnificent reactions! Too often I watch matches and the keepers are arguing with and shouting at their team mates. Love to see Krul taking a more encouraging and positive approach – and of course he has reason to!

Really hope we can keep the momentum going today. Few key players will be missing I reckon… I’d like to see something like this:

    ——————-Krul——————

    Simpson–Willo–Perch–Santon

    –R.Taylor—-Cabaye—-Jonas–

    –Benny——–Cisse———Ba–

  3. Krul is for me the 1st name on the team sheet. Cisse, crossed fingers is coing to continue to develop into one of the great premier league strikers.
    Happy days.

  4. harder game today than what people think , they are fighting for there lives at the bottom ! hopefully we keep the same 3 upfront and bring colo in! this would be my team today

    ========krul=========
    simp===col=willo==santon
    =cabaye=perch=jonas===
    benny===cisse===ba====

    our next 6 game predictions!!

    toon 3 bolton 1
    toon 2 stoke 1
    wigan 2 toon 2
    chelsea 2 toon 1
    toon 3 city 2
    everton 1 toon 1

thats 11 points from our final 6 for me!! that will get us up to 67points which is pretty unreal !! imo we are not going to get 4th position and we should aim to beat chelski to 5th!

  5. Good job Krul, right lads I’m off doon sooth for the game, so excited, for the game not the 2 1/2 – 3 hour car journey 😕 😆

  6. Krul is indeed a great keeper… however he needs to work on his ball distribution.. Other than that he is class. Given was a great keeper for us but as good a shot stoppa as he was, he never really commanded the box enough on corners etc.

  7. just a thought, been looking on toon site and our ref for today is bloke called “mike jones” ring a bell anyone?? thought not, its only his second time he has been our ref this season, with some good and bad decisions on our behalf. (howard webb, the bloke on man utds books, is the 4th offical)
first of all, he was the ref when we drew against Man Utd at old trafford back in november, when he sent off Jonas for two bookable affences, 👿 👿 but most importantly, he awarded us “THAT” penalty, that everyone said RIO got the ball, and then Demba converted!! 😈 😈

as for Krul, am really pleased to see how far he has come on, i thought Foster would of been our no.1 between the sticks by now, with krul as his understudy. but thats why am not a goalkeeping coach!! 😥

its good that the players are all thinking the same about a european place on top of their agenders this season, as in one of yesterdays articles, its all about the team spirit that is within the squad nowadays.

is the Bolton game going to be a difficult one today? i hope not, i fancy 3points today, its all about which bolton team turn up today, after the last couple of weeks , they all bonded very well after Muamba took ill, but they took a heavy defeat on sat, so will they have there heads up? or heads down? 😕 😮 😮

i think the fans will have to be vocal again today, like we were against liverpool, so 3 points should be in the bag come 4:45pm 😆 😆

  8. I think we now have 7 players that could challenge for a place at any club in the league.
Hopefully Santon will fully adapt next season and Saylor will recover from his injury set back to continue his impressive improvement.

Agree with Krul being the first name on the team sheet; he’ll become a club legend no doubt.

  9. Richie@9 If he’s card happy then Willo will have to be carefull to keep his hands to himself more than ever.

On Krul, I have been so impressed with him ,and defo in the top 3 keepers in PL imo. Hope we keep hold of him as he has saved us on numerous occasions.

Got this game down as a win but i’m nervous too as I know how much Bolton need the points and it will be a hard game I think.

I would rest Colo make sure he’s 100% ready for last few games and Maybe Tiote too ,moreso if that ref is card happy .

      (Quote)

  10. yes very good keeper but needs to work on his kicking would like to see him throw the ball better at times, this ref is a nightmare he likes to be “star”of the show i do worry about him 👿

      (Quote)

  11. SSN saying Cabbaye and Tiote have to pass fitness tests. Is there any serious doubts about these two.

Once again lads Mike Mahoney Super Goalie

      (Quote)

  12. Toby@16 Nooooooooooooooooooooooo not Cabaye ,we need him to thread passes through to Cisse 👿

      (Quote)

  13. Krul has done well from he got his chance, I would like to see him work on his distribution and releasing the ball a bit quicker, but he’s still only young and there is plenty of time to become better at them things.
On today I just have a feeling that it’s going to be a lot harder than some fans think, they need to fight for their lifes but I just hope its not today.

      (Quote)

  14. Dave…usually I’d agree but just have a feeling we’ll rack up a decent score…nae logic, just a feeling…..that said I’d be over the moon with a scrappy 1 nowt to a dubious injury time penalty

      (Quote)

  15. Richie i’ll take a scrappy 1-0 aswell 😉 but I think we’ve waited long enough to hammer a team so I wouldn’t say no to that 😆

      (Quote)

  16. I’m sure Cabaye will make it today, and Pardew will have the players feet firmly on the ground so that they will give Bolton the respect they deserve. 2-0 toon, Cisse 15 minutes, HBA after 60 minutes. Get your spondoolicks on now… 😉

See the legendary chucky got his come-uppance on tumbleweed .org 😆 😆 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  17. Would agree with comments that Krul has had a great season , but also he has room to improve , which he will , he is still very young esp for a keeper.

I would hope for a win today but Bolton will be scrapping for their lives today so I dont think it will be an easy game. But with Cisse Ben Arfa and Ba Im confident we will score against anyone.

      (Quote)

  18. Richietoon, we got snow today in Bayern, how’s the weather doon your neck of the woods ?

      (Quote)

  19. Cabaye and tiote would be a big miss especially if collo and Guthrie are out, as well as perchino has done he can’t be DM and CB !
Maybe Abeid can cover for Cabaye, would have said vuckic but he likes to get to far forward if we’re playing 4-3-3

      (Quote)

  20. if Cabaye is missing and we stick with 4-3-3, it’ll be Raylor, Gosling and Jonas (with Jonas as the ‘playmaker’)

      (Quote)

  21. SSN “Five more Premiership games today with Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle all in action”

Wow, we really are up there with the big boys now eh 😆

      (Quote)

  22. Maybe we could play Benny as the playmaker and Vuckic out on the right in Benny’s position? Could work but i’d rather make as few changes as possible…

      (Quote)

  23. pardew saying they are going to change game plan, whatever that means is anybodys guess 🙄

      (Quote)

  24. ice

Got a feeling well be back at 4-4-2 again, He said the other week about Ba moaning about playing on the left and how hell be back up top soon enough.

Be reet pissed off if we dump the system that has got the best out of every other player and garnered some great results/performances just because Dembas spat the dummy…

      (Quote)

  25. CC imo if its working why change it,if some dont like it tough ****,its the “team”that counts 😉

      (Quote)

  26. In Pardew we trust. Hope he gets the tactics right today, though I still think we have enough “flair players” to win. HBA, Cisse and Ba will win it for us today, followed closely by Jonas and a strong defensive performance…

    Howay the lads !!!!!

      (Quote)

  27. icedog have you noticed worky getting some stick on .org ? Interesting eh, looks like another blogger heading for the sin bin. Big D, looks like you need to get another tee-shirt printed 😆 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  28. Its pathetic if thats the case, Ba has been starting on the left but Cisses spent as much time out there when pardews switched them and never moaned.

He should stop thinking about himself and think of the team, I cant remember Shola, Loverman and Best sitting on the bench with faces like smacked arses when Ba was banging them in earlier in the season…

      (Quote)

  29. @CC
    Come on lets not speculate.
Tbh i’m happy for players to be looking miserable on the bench, especially if on form they are undeniably first team, so long as they give it their all on the pitch anyway. His reaction to the second goal didn’t look great but he might have picked up a knock or something.

We shouldn’t go on newspapers theories, on his twitter he seemed delighted, and Pardew didn’t mention anything, so lets just leave it at that.

      (Quote)

  30. It’s getting to the point where we’ll need to be in Europe if we’re to keep our best players as they are so good they deserve to be playing European football.

      (Quote)

  31. @solanos trumpet

Ok i’ll leave the speculating for now, Still think its a shame if we drop the 4-3-3 the lads have looked far more comfortable, Hopefully Ba will get his goal today and we get three more points on the board 😉

Gary Madine and Nile Ranger playing up front together, Dennis wises long term vision being played out in the 3rd tier… 🙄

      (Quote)

  32. M-Was he not on the bench vs Swansea? I know he had some trouble, is he definitely out then?

This is the point I was getting at with Demba-unhappy he wasn’t scoring to the extent that we now change what has been a very effective formation? Well lets hope it doesn’t come back at us.

Just to clarify what happens now if Benny says he doesn’t want to be a left midfielder as he wants more goals/an opportunity higher up? Will Pards change to suit him? 😕

      (Quote)

  33. Newkie, I remember hearing after the Swansea game that Vuckic was out…?

I think we should definitely not start getting on Demba Ba’s back! Unfortunately the cameras happened to catch him in a bit of a sulk, but there is nothing to suggest he’s had a hissy fit and talked Pards into changing formation, personally I do not think it’s in his character, and the last thing we need now is fans looking for a player to persecute. People should be cheering him extra and showing we love him! (God i want him to score today..) I hope we don’t change formation, but if we do maybe it’s due to the amount of injuries we have and Pards feeling something else’ll work better for this one match with the personnel available??

Found a venue to watch, hurray 😀
    Howay the lads!

      (Quote)

  34. Pre match nerves, the chance to make it 5-in-a-row is just lush. Never easy but at the same time I think Bolton have been pretty poor this season, would love Cisse to chipe their ginger keeper from 30 yards 🙂

To be beaten 3-0 by Fulham (who are not the best travellers in the world) suggests something isn’t right, plus they are right down the wrong end of the table.

      (Quote)

  35. Newkie – nah mate, he got crocked in training last week – knee I think. Didn’t make the bench at Swansea and is supposed to be out for a month

Watching Wednesday against Oldham. Got Ranger and Kuqi playing against each other..

  37. Real chance to put a bit of space between us and Chelsea today. I can see them resting a few and getting a draw at Fulham. Don’t think our game will be as easy as some think though.
