Why bother?

Ayoze Perez – One of many names to be linked
I’ll pre-warn you that this won’t be a long article, so if you’re expecting an essay then look away now…

Basically it’s just a small moan about transfers. Already we are being linked with this player or that player and people seem to be foaming from inappropriate places about it all. I’m just wondering why? Why bother?

Our transfer activity is poor to say the least. We’ve not signed anyone permanently for 18 months and our last meaningful foray into the transfer market came about because we were involved in a relegation battle. It’s not a progressive system, it’s a reactive one, usually reacting to a sale or a struggle.

Yet here we are again with articles popping up all over the place suggesting moves for players. Apparently the club are looking to get some early deals done but I’ve heard that before. I’ve also heard of offers rejected for some players, which again has been done before. It’s early days but we’re treading a familiar path already.

I’m not saying that we won’t sign anybody because clearly we will. I’m just suggesting that recent history suggests there is nowt to get excited about during transfer windows, or in our case they’re just called ‘days’, and besides the window doesn’t open for another month yet anyway.

I feel bad for saying this, like I’m sucking the fun out of all the transfer rumours, but the fact is that pretty much all of them will fail to materialise. Just chill out and enjoy the weather and forthcoming World Cup.

  1. Even first time round he was a PR disaster and I’m still shocked that Jabba didn’t take that into account. Who can forget his famous exchange with Simon Bird 😳

  2. Kim-that’s a pretty good article and sums up what a lot of us feel. I think Douglas may be a little harsh-sissoko into a very average wide man? Wasn’t it said he created the third most chances in the PL this season? He had a good number of assists and goals thrown into that too, and he had much better competition in the centre (Cabaye, Tiote) than he did on the right.

Still, Pardew is definitely running out of chances in terms of showing results with what he is bought. Sadly I think Perez may be another wasted talent in the Viana mould.

  3. Kim-exactly, obviously nobody should have to suffer that and on top of his heart attacks he was probably quite a broken man. But coming into a highly pressurised job was not the right decision. He should have known better, Ashley should have known better.

  4. Sharpy17- It actually show’s Ashley has a heart after all. Sad to hear Kinnear lost his son like.

  5. Bet Mike regrets not buying Bony last summer, he could of doubled his money now ? He must be kicking himself now! His not so smart after all G2 ? Cheap isn’t always the way mate.

  6. That’s 12 million pounds missed out on Mike. I would take Bony over Remy and Shelvey over Obertan.

  7. No way they will sell Haidara

Yanga-Mbiwa i could see pardew wanting to sell but i think the club would block it and sooner sell Taylor

  8. CC- I think the only reason Taylor is still here is because his home grown and we need a certain amount in the team. Very poor last season and I certainly won’t miss him.

  9. I think Remy is an excellent player but feel he is a bit injury prone. He was injured a lot for QPR and has had a couple with us too, I will watch with interest how many games his next club gets out of him.

  10. Newkie – I don’t think Ashley put his mate before his business. I think Ashley probably thought Joe was capable of doing the job, and that it wouldn’t come with the day to day stresses of management. Dekka obviously disagreed and jumped ship.

Terry – yeah, I don’t know if you can remember but Joe got slated for taking a holiday in the first week of the summer transfer window. He was actually way with his daughter in law and grandson on a pre arranged holiday and didn’t want to let them down.

I would defo take Diouf on a free transfer as well. Not much of a risk coz I can imagine his wages being huge.
