Arsenal are preparing a €30million move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho and (pinch of salt alert) Newcastle are also believed to be in the mix for his signature according to Portuguese outlet ‘Record’.
We were linked with a move for Carvalho in May, and whilst it would be a dream to secure such a marquee signing, we are not holding our breath on this one.
Not only has the Portuguese midfielder appear destined for one of Europes top sides – with competitors Arsenal falling into that category – he’s said to have a whopping £39m release clause. A great player, who impressed me at Euro 2016, but I believe to be out of our reach this summer.
Carvalho is a midfield giant and would be the perfect foil next to Jonjo Shelvey, but it would mean for a remarkable turn of events and the smashing of our transfer record if he were to sign this summer.
We can only dream.
