NUFC now pushing to secure ‘double’ striker deal – Player keen to make the move – Report

According to the Northern Echo, Rafa Benitez is now trying to pull off the signing of Liverpool’s Danny Ings before Thursday’s deadline.

Salomon Rondon’s loan move looks all set to be sealed in the next 24 hours, with him now on Tyneside to complete the switch, however it seems he’s not the only striker Rafa wants.

Here’s a snippet from Paul Fraser’s latest piece for the Northern Echo, stating Rafa now wants both Rondon AND Ings in over the next few days:

“RAFAEL BENITEZ is trying to pull off a striker double to boost Newcastle United before the transfer window closes on Thursday, even if he will still be frustrated by the length of time it has taken to get things done.

“It has emerged Liverpool’s Danny Ings is back on the agenda along with West Brom’s Salomon Rondon. Ings is interested in heading to Tyneside and a season-long loan with a view to a £15m permanent switch if top-flight survival is secured is being discussed.”

There’s been confusion over how a deal for Ings could be done – with us only being able to loan TWO players from English clubs (Kenedy and Rondon) – however it’s being suggested that a THIRD loan deal is possible if it includes an obligation to buy.

It’d be great to have Ings in as well, although I’m not convinced we’d agree to an obligation to buy given his recent injury record.

Would we really commit to paying £15m for him next summer when there’s a very real risk that he could get injured again?

A decent player who could regain his best form under Rafa, but one who’s barely kept himself fit since signing for Liverpool three years ago (making just 14 Premier League appearances since July 2015).

Would you be happy to have him IF this deal was possible?

  1. Why do we always have a negative statement to make about any player. Ok, so he has had injuries in the past but you seem to be taking the guy apart before he has had a chance to prove himself. No wonder morale is low.

  2. Can’t get better than the facts which are stated above, the question asked was would you take a chance on a possible injury prone player when we could bring in another player you get more games out of, personally I would take a chance on both players, lets do something different to Ashley, lets take a risk, thats the positive that might end in success

Think you’re misunderstanding my point here. To make this possible we’d HAVE to commit to signing him for £15m next summer.

I’m questioning whether we’d do that for a player who’s averaged less than 5 games a season since 2015..

I’d happilly have him as it’s not my money – I’m just questioning whether we (Ashley and co) would do this..

  4. Got to agree Olly I don’t think it’s plausible to take Ings with an obligation to buy. His injury record makes that an obligation to far in our financial, or should I say Ashleys financial situation.
