The match – Newcastle v West Ham United

Shola Ameobi.
No-Sho for Ameobi.
West Ham are the visitors to St James’ Park this evening as both sides aim to put some more distance between themselves and the bottom three.

Both teams won their last fixture, both against teams who are near the bottom of the table, and there is a sense that a win for either side in this game could be the springboard needed to push on and secure Premier League survival.

The big team news for the home side is regarding our attack as Shola Ameobi misses out through injury to be replaced by Leon Best who makes his first Premier League start in the black and white stripes.

There is no live UK coverage of this game, although if you happen to stumble upon any links where a fellow Toon fan can watch the match online then please feel free to share it with us and leave a link to it in the comments section below.

If you would like to read a more detailed background of the fixture including injury news, form guides and a bit of a ‘stat-attack’ for both sides, then please feel free to read my match report.

Also, I’d like to apologise for the relative shoddyness of this article, and the relative lateness of it. As you all know, this place has not long opened up so it is resembling a bit of a mess at the moment, kind of like when you move into a new house. It will get there in the end though.

Team news is as follows…..

Newcastle: Steve Harper, Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Joey Barton, Cheik Tiote, Kevin Nolan, Jonas Gutierrez, Peter Lovenkrands, Leon Best.

Subs: Tim Krul, Shane Ferguson, James Perch, Mike Williamson, Danny Guthrie, Wayne Routledge, Nile Ranger.

West Ham: Rob Green, James Tomkins, Matthew Upson, Tal Ben-Haim, Danny Gabbidon, Freddy Sears, Scott Parker, Mark Noble, Radoslav Kovac, Frederic Piquionne, Carlton Cole.

Subs: Ruud Boffin, Winston Reid, Valon Behrami, Jonathon Spector, Zavon Hines, Pablo Barrera, Victor Obinna.

Howay the lads!

  1. Is this a case of Pardew showing he is better than Hoots? Best couldn’t get a look in under Hoots, but he looked ok at the weekend and he scores two tonight!

It’s a question we will never know the answer to.

  6. Joey Barton is the heartbeat while Tiote is the pulse, admittedly West ham look terrible but you can only beat whats in front of you
Everyone looking good and nice to see Best get on the score sheet, he looked ok when he came on against Wigan and could be useful given how often Shola is injured

If only we could get rid of Xisco and Ranger needs to get his act together, how can you not get into work for 10:30 for 3 hours work the lazy get

  7. I’m enjoying all the Hammers fans moaning about how they’re losing to “an average Newcastle side” and how “it’s bloody Newcastle, not Man utd”

  8. For the money he’s on aswell mate. If somebody told me I could start at half 10 every morning, only work for 3 hours every day and make 5k a week, nevermind 20 or so, i’d probably have a heart attack.

  9. Tiote to score the night?..Sounds like he’s had a few pops on goal and is managing to get into their box with the ball

  11. Average?! In the top 8? Pathetic. It really is funny to see Liverpool and villa struggling after the stick we get 2 years ago

  12. Bitterness mate. They’ve been hopeless all season and by all accounts have been embarrassing tonight. We’ve just came back up and currently (touch wood) are more, than holding our own in the league. They just cant hack it.

  13. Some said we would be toothless without Carroll! If Best and Jonas keep playing the way they are we might just be ok for a week or two until the big man is back!

    Keep it up, hwtl!

  14. “51: Cole fails to keep in Noble’s long ball. There sure seems to be a lack of effort out there now from the visitors.”

..They were trying in the first half? They really are in trouble if thats the case! lol

  19. shrews-I have nee idea mate. I’m only 22 so I wouldn’t remember it if it was like, haha. The first since the league became “The Premier League” perhaps?
..Nice to see that in the Arsenal game they’re keeping up with the spurs and chelsea scores etc. We’re up 5-0 and they’ve said nowt.

  20. oh yea…one requires me to install software…will be hard to do on the work comp.

  21. whey the message is clear, if you play in Claret and Blue, stay away from St James’ 😆
pity Burnley’s not still in the league 🙂

  22. Shocker when Hughton went, no direction yet again the Loony Toons tag was on us.

But now got to hand it to Pardew, he has got (kept) the players playing well in his 5 games in charge (spuds being the only exception) few more reinforcements in this window and we will be a real team again not just relegation candidates.
