The Sunday news round-up.

News round-up.
Stop! Press!
With news in short supply today, I thought it was perhaps best to round-up all the news into one handy article which will, hopefully, cover all the bases.

Understandably, most of the press are focusing on the defeat to Stevenage yesterday, which was always going to happen. I won’t go into it too much, but it is the least the players and the manager deserve after such a shambolic performance.

We will however start with the fall-out from our FA Cup elimination yesterday as Alan Pardew issued an apology to Newcastle fans after the game. Pardew claims that the players were running on empty after a tough run of festive fixtures, which begs the question of why he didn’t see fit to play some younger players instead?

Jose Enrique is a rumoured transfer target for Manchester United and Tottenham if Metro is anything to go by, but in my experience it isn’t. Jose loves it at Newcastle and would cost a pretty penny to purchase, which appears to be overlooked here.

Nile Ranger has been urged to knuckle down by Alan Pardew who has challenged the 19-year-old to prove that he wants to be a professional footballer.

Ranger has a bit of a reputation for being a ‘bad-***’, but he also has undoubted potential. Quiet words behind closed doors haven’t worked apparently, so now Pardew has aired the dirty linen in public. Make of that what you will, but if the lad isn’t listening to players like Andy Carroll then what harm can it do?

Next up, long term injury absentee, Dan Gosling, explained in an exclusive interview to the Sunday Sun how his horror injury has helped him grow up quickly.

Gosling is only 20, and my advice to him is to not grow up too quickly, but he has shown remarkable determination to get back to fitness and on the verge of the first team since being told just eight months ago that he may never play again. Well done Dan!

And finally, Alan Pardew has been talking about transfer prospects for the current transfer window. Pardew envisages no more than one, or two at the most, new signings arriving through the door this January.

I can’t say I’m surprised to be honest, and I never really expected us to sign a boatload of players this window. We already have Hatem Ben Arfa tied up, and one or two on top of that doesn’t seem so bad does it? It depends on who they are of course, but the numbers are about what I was expecting anyway.

So there you go. That brings us up to date with news on what is another thrilling Sunday regarding the press and NUFC.

Feel free to leave us your thoughts.

  1. I realise what people are saying about Ranger being young, being 19 myself I get what you mean like 😛 but if Ranger isn’t turning up to training, or turning up late, or not giving his all then Pardew has the right to challenge him in this manner imo..Lets not forget-Carroll’s only 21 yet he’s been knuckling down for a fair old while-his off field antics aside, you can’t deny he puts in a shift consistently, he wants to get as good as he can and he earned constant praise from hughton from all his work in training. If Ranger isn’t doing the same then he’s going to find himself benchwarming for a fair while to come-and if he’s happy to be bench warming then he’ll find himself out the door in no time, and rightfully so. Either we challenge him in this way, or we get Barton to have a few of his own words in the training sessions 😀

  5. ILM he must be a bit of a ****** as its only tossers or wannabe gangstas that have ever asked me to tattoo them there, and the answer is always the same waste of time 🙂
I have always wanted to see Ranger get a good chance but over the last while im starting to believe that he is a complete ******

  6. It does.

Naturally, if you take this one article into consideration and ignore the rest of the articles in week to date then it doesn’t……

Could be worse, there could be one article per crappy news story……

  8. Ice there is no doubt the boy has talent, but the problem is he is still a boy and hasn’t grew up and if he dosn’t do it soon he is going to throw away what could be a real good career.
I have seen a few people saying that Pards shouldn’t have publicly run him down, but the way I see it is that we have already tried to keep it behind closed doors and help him out. But must supporters didn’t know why he was being benched and were calling for him to be played. But all along they were trying to protect him, but why should we keep protecting him when he hasn’t helped himself. So atlest all the Fans including me now know for sure why he is getting benched

  9. I counted 22 so there’s 3 spots open.
Lb, cf, cam, and lw. One 21 and under or one player going out and we’re in there. Fill out the squad and reassess in the summer. January transfers don’t always work out in the season they are made but we are in serious need of cover. One good thing is that the schedule will start to ease up a bit soon and with us out of the cup, that’ll give players more time to rest as well.
This is no time to get confident. We’re only 7 points clear. While it’s looking good right now, a couple of injuries and a poor run could see I’d in the relegation zone.

  11. Aye Dave, the same rumours about him were knocking about when CH was boss and if they were true then, which seems likely, then CH has already tried the “keep it in house” method and it hasn’t worked.Time for another tact with the lad now imo.

      (Quote)

  12. Richie I had heard it before but I always chose not to believe it as I thought it was just stories made up, and he should be given a chance. But now we know he isn’t pulling his weight so I now agree that he shouldn’t be getting the chance until he sorts himself out, if he ever do’s

      (Quote)

  13. CH said “Just as we have already done with Andy Carroll, we’re keen to keep our young talent at this football club and agreeing such a long-term deal with Nile is good news for all concerned. We look forward to helping him to mature and become a key player for us in the future.”

Ice does that mean CH shouln’t get any credit for Tiote or Benny as he had no say at the club?

      (Quote)

  14. The lad needs to go out on loan with a club who don’t have good facilites. That way he’ll know what its like for most players, and see that he’s a fcking lucky *******!

      (Quote)

  15. Oh and let’s not forget the lad hasn’t scored for us yet, but he’s missed few great chances to score.

He might not even be that good.

      (Quote)

  16. So then he had no say in Tiote or Benny ?
Ice I took think Pards was trying to make an excuse for the players, as if he came out and told the truth ( that the players should hang their heads in shame , and take a long hard look at themselfs when their picking their wages up) he would have got hammered for that.
I agree with you that some of the tactics were odd but even our kids should have been able to beat stevenage boro, imo the players have to take the blame for that total embarrasment

      (Quote)

  17. Stuart have you been taking lessons from Batty in just saying what you feel 😆
But I think batty might have changed it a bit too fcking lazy lucky *******!

      (Quote)

  18. RICHIE ime saying he was telt what was what, imo he had to gell team with what he had or was given and his in-put would be small, ashley had guys in place scouts ect as he knew hoots was short term, hoots did better than the rat thought he would and got the respect of the players, think this gans deeper than we thought imho

      (Quote)

  19. Aye he scored last season and scored against Chelski in the cc-was a good goal too, but funnily enough he missed an absolute sitter about 10minutes after in the same game. He missed another one right on the line yesterday, pretty sure it was Ranger and Nolan right on the line? Nolan looked about ready to smack him afterwards.

      (Quote)

  20. said a while ago ranger should go on loan to some club with a old type manager someone who would kick his *** in shape, roy keane type of manager who was a right *** himself but would have brought him into line, might have learned where his bread was buttered

      (Quote)

  21. Ice im not trying to corner you but do you think Hoots had any say in the Tiote and Benny deal or do you think it was the scout ??
And where is the slag tonight, and did he let you off with the other 🙂

      (Quote)

  22. Ice, have to disagree cos think Hoots played a big part in alot of the players we got in including Benny and Tiote. Obviously scouts often find them first then recommend them to the manager and he should have the final say in signing them thats how most clubs work. If, as you suggest, Hughton didn’t have a say in owt to do with players then surely anyone with an ounce of pride would have quit?

      (Quote)

  23. Ice maybe no one would want the hassle 🙁 but I know what your saying.
I think there is just some people that dont conform to a disciplined life. the Son of a mate of mine had trails with Shitty about 7-8 yr ago but just went of the rails with drink and other things.

  24. Slow day on the transfer front. Didn’t Pardew say that he was trying to get someone in before the Stevenage game? Any news on who / when/ how much etc?

Anyone heard anything about Seb Larsson??

      (Quote)

  25. not saying hoots had nee say on players coming in, of course he had some but it had to fall in someone who is a lot closer to the fat man if you really study what hoots came out and said on players over windows there were a few he talked about there was a couple one was moses and he got best,he said very little about benny/tiote and wouldnt be drawn on them until they were in the bag,i just think this goes deeper than we think, the guy was **** on but was to much of a gentleman to say owt,and why would he you cannot open your gob in this game or you will not move on to any club

      (Quote)

  26. Exactly who I was thinking. Let him go and play top level CCC football with a manager like Warnock who’ll give him a clip should he get out of line.

      (Quote)

  27. To be fair to Ranger, he’s a 19 year old lad. I’m sure plenty of us were t0ssers at that age. He might have been a cocky lad who was then given money and the aura of being a professional footballer and all of a sudden, as far as he’s concerned, he’s untouchable. I’m not saying it’s acceptable but you see lads his age like that every day, nevermind those who are on 20K+ a week.
Send him out to a top level CCC club, like others have mentioned with a manager who will NOT take his sh!te. Neil Warnock comes to mind. However from what Pardew’s said, he isn’t going to put up with it either like.

As for Pardew talking about players coming in, 1 or maybe 2, isn’t enough for me. But at the end of the day, that’s not his fault. If thats what he’s been told, he has to now find 1 or 2 players who will improve the squad in vital areas. Stevenage will have shown him that the squad is in no way deep enough, which we all already knew, but it’s quite clear poor results don’t really push Ashley into action. Cup game was humiliating but who cares, first season back all I want is survival and I never even considered a cup run like.

  28. got my evil heed on the neet was my birthday y/day toon played like ****,couldnt even have one j/dee for these bloody painkillers grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

      (Quote)

  29. like I say Ice, he should have quit if that was the case and if he you agree to work under those circumstances you must know sooner or later you’re gonna get **** on from a great height and can’t complain when it happen I’m afraid…..Though to be fair he hasn’t complained and I really hope he gets fixed up soon, I think Ipswich would be a canny little number for him imo.

      (Quote)

  30. aye ya have Ice ya arguementative bugga 😉
Happy birthday for yesterday by the way…..did ya telegram of the queen come ok? 😆

      (Quote)

  31. RICHIE dont think he would quit,he had worked under a few managers at the toon and care/t roll, coach thought ashley would play the game, but like others found out he wouldnt

      (Quote)

  32. aye, but then after training he’ll be straight in to his Range Rover and off to his 5* hotel where he’ll be staying the whole time he’s on loan.

Aye, he won’t know what’***** him! 😀

      (Quote)

  33. Yeah I hated the yellow ones initially but we kept winning in them I wished we kept it! I’m with you toonsy, bring them back!

      (Quote)

  34. Brinb back the yellow one that everyone hated 😆 Lads you cant blame the blue kits for that sh1te display yesterday like.
Ice happy birthday for yesterday old bean, Richie he got the Queens telegram 2 yrs ago mate, she dosn’t send them every year you know 😆

      (Quote)

  35. Lepoard doesn’t change his spots Ice, thats my point CH knew what he was like so he couldn’t be shocked at the way he was treat and tbh I don’t think he was that shocked. If ya work for fatman you have to be prepared for and expect the worst. The way he got rid of CH was a disgrace but I’m afraid anyone agrees to work for him then they can’t expect sympathy when Ashley reverts to type imo….as Pardew will find out some time down the line.

      (Quote)

  36. DAVE you should know aboot them telegrams like bet dee has a few on the fridge for you :),dont like saying this dave he was poor but pity rest of players didnt put in the effert slugger joey did we might have done better

  37. RICHIE i agree m8 on your point, mine is you cannot walk or speak out if you want to stay in this game.harping back the only guy that did love or hate him was a.s,i was at that interview when he said he sat down with ash and agreed ie players to go out players in budget ect two days later hoots got job,no phone call no dog ****,maybe pardew is the snide that can work with him as you say m8 we will see down the line
