Relegation watch!

Villa Park...we all know what happened...

The scenes we hope to avoid! The focus may well be on international football this weekend as people turn their attention towards the Euro 2012 qualifiers, but it’s NUFC that will still be at the centre of my attention.

I’m viewed as being quite positive with regard to all things black and white, which annoys some people to be fair, but I do understand that there are some definite concerns over our Premier League status. I still think that we’ll be fine, but it is a bit too close for comfort and is certainly a lot closer than it should have been.

So here we are with only eight games of the season remaining. We are currently sitting in 11th place in the table with a total of 36 points. Results are a concern, but if it’s a concern for us then it should also be a concern for any team from ninth downwards. After all, there are still five teams in the league who are in worse form than us!

So what about these other teams then? Most of us know what fixtures we have left, but do we really know what the other teams have to face at the same time? Personally I don’t. I know a few fixtures that other teams have, but I don’t know them all. What I could do with is rounding them all up into one handy article so we can see just what these other teams are up against. And after all of that, there you have it. Your comprehensive list of who is playing who in the final few games of the season.

My first observation is that a lot of teams still have a lot of tough games to play. Mind you, at this time of the season the form book can go out of the window as teams start to scrap for their lives. What do you make of it?

Personally I would hope that we can get some points on the board at the earliest opportunity to prevent having to refer back to this list in the future. That’s the ideal though of course.

Time will tell!

  1. I went to Villa when we went down probably the worst day of my life so far. Four hour bus journey home seemed like four years. Can’t describe how it felt when the whistle went.

Even though I said the same thing that season I can’t see us going down, difference this time being we have a team spirit – we have Nolan as captain. Look at Nolan being captain this season then you look at Owen. That is why I believe we will stay up.

  2. Stuart,

That would have been the case, but we now have Man Utd at home on the 19, just before we play Blackpool away

  3. How hard would be tickets for the man u game to get? Would you be able to buy tickets on the day?

  4. Johno – Probably, but it’s hard to say.

On one hand it’s midweek evening on TV, but on the other it’s Man U and people seem to pop up when they are in town, probably the ones who think that they are still our rivals etc 😉

It’s always best to book as at least you know then 🙂

  5. I have to say, that looking at those remaining games, I think Wolves stay up this year. I think West Ham, Blackpool and West Brom are going to have the tougher games, each playing 5 teams in the top 10.

West Brow could really be hurting after their next 4 games. I am still not concerned for Newcastle, but obviously nothing is a given in sport.

  6. I wish I could rant about how the ref is favouring England and the Welsh are being cheated but to be honest, England are taking them apart and they are only in second gear themselves. Is this a sign of England’s strength though or a sign of how poor Wales are?

Look at the Wales team though, the individual players really aren’t that bad at all so why are they so poor as a team? It’s like a mini version of the England problem.

  7. I just really really can’t back England until they change a whole lot of things that are wrong with their set up.

  8. No doubt the papers will rave how good England were when Wales are nothing but a team of Championship players.

  10. I agree Jobey. I even think a draw would be alreet, but a win would settle the nerves. Lose and the confidence is shot IMO.

You think a draw is ok? Would you take a draw now?

We cannot afford to let another home game pass us by without a win. Their starting to run out!

  13. Stuart – Obviously I would prefer a win, but a draw against Wolves would be better for us than it would be for them IMO.

  14. A draw would be Ok, just means another game goes by where Wolves dont gain any points on us.

  16. why do people think protests will change anything?
It’s like the ones for Uni’s, they didn’t help anything.

  17. Think we can and should beat wolves at home , but a draw aint end of the world , think we need to get results against team belows in the remaining games and we will be fine , tho id love to beat liverpool n the gypo 🙂

  18. Jobey – People always protest mate, and it very rarely gets anyone anywhere. It’s just a consolation exercise to make people feel important and as though they are doing something.

Unfortunately, those that are there to have a genuine and peaceful protest get tarred with the arseholes who tag along just to cause trouble, or anarchy 🙄

Kicking off + London = Kicking off in London. Santander aren’t popular apparently.

  21. Big protest Germany wide today in favour of closing all of the nuclear power stations here. Doesn’t help much I suppose when there are probably over 100 of the things throughout europe… 🙁 🙁 🙁 The Germans are on big time sphincter control at the moment…aaal ower the news, every day too… 🙄 🙄

  22. ice…a defeat on Saturday doesn’t bear thinking about mate…I think we’ll be ok though …two hoodoos to break though…winning at 3 o’clock on Saturday, and that we always play ***** after a mid season break.. 🙄

  23. That’s it Munich. It’s was a TUC based protest but I really think anyone and everyone who has a gripe has latched onto it and now it’s just like the student marches again.

I think this is going to be a regular feature across the planet too. There really isn’t anywhere that isn’t being affected in a similar fashion.

Mad Max here we come, lol.

  24. People have had it too good for too long and now they are having to pay the price for it. Rather than costing the country more cash they should stop damaging things that cost money to fix and we’d be out the ***** that bit quicker.

On that note, I’m off out 😀

I’m more deflated that the cricket team were so trounced by Sri Lanka than I care about England beating Wales. Perhaps im going through some sort of male menopause. 😕

Worky’s ruined that blog, batty, with his arrogance and complete pig headedness. I though Stardust had no humilty (and he hasn’t by the way) but Worky is in a different league.
