Sigthorsson on Carr’s hitlist?

The Iceman on Toon's hitlist?
Newcastle have been linked with another name today, although admittedly it’s quite a mouthful of a name!

Icelandic striker, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson is apparently being watched by Mr. Ben as he runs the rule over potential summer transfer targets. I would hope that a striker is at the top of the list as that, in my opinion, is the position where we are really weak at the minute. With no disrespect intended, Shola Ameobi, Peter Lovenkrands and Shefki Kuqi are not long term answers to our striking problems!

At just 21 years old, Sigthorsson is at the right age for us to be looking. The AZ Alkmaar forward has already scored 14 goals this season including a five goal haul against Venlo in one match earlier on in the season, although, to be fair, that alone doesn’t necessarily mean that we are definitely in for him.

Enough babbling though as I’ve found this 15 minute video of the Icelandic international in action. See what you think.

I know it’s folly to judge a player from a Youtube clip, unless you happen to be Dennis Wise of course, but it’s the only real insight we are likely to get on the player. He looks alright to me. No world beater but better than what we have currently.

What do you think?

  1. cannot imagine the Level 7 section giving it “we’ve got Kolbeinn Sigthorsson on the wing, on the wing”…like, bit of a mouthful… 😆

Toonsy…I could score 5 goals against Venlo….it’s aboot the size of Dunston…

  2. TOONSY i can only say mate you have done some storming work this week, cannot think how hard it is to have a good week on the blog without any footy to keep the flow going well done,,not forgeting some of the **** you have to put up with as well,
sure the lads think the same.

blue peter badge to you 😉

  3. Ice – Nee worries mate.

It’s been tough to try and come up with things to be honest, but I’ve hopefully come up with some stuff of interest as well as the other lads of course 🙂

    Long may it continue 🙂

Tell ye what though, Worky was right on one thing. Promoting is hard, time-consuming work lol

  4. Munich – Let him carry on mate. I’m done with it all to be honest.

Although it’s worth pointing out that I never said Worky sent me any e mails 😉

For someone who hasn’t got the time to spend on the site he certainly spends enough time pouting bile. He should get a grip and try and rescue his blog from the toilet that it’s being pissed down by getting an article out rather than chomping like a bell end 😆

    Bingo 🙂

  7. Dan – I was going to do both but I already wrote about Wijnaldum not so long back so left him out 🙂

  8. The fact that he has scored 14 this season and 5 in one game means that in all the other games he only has 9 (kind of obvious I know). Whilst it is impressive to score 5 in one game, you would expect someone who has done that to have scored more than 14 in 32 games. He seems to have scored some nice goals but I would want more than his record with the money we should get

  9. 😆 😆
    Couldn’t resist the cheap joke,
    Leave me alone 🙁
5 and a half hours of golf has tired me out 🙁

  10. pearceet – Depends on any number of things doesn’t it? Does he get loads of chances created for him? Has he played the full ninety in every game?

At 21 he can still improve a lot, and I doubt he would be overly expensive either.

  11. Do you guys think we will sign someone we hear about in the press or you think we will continue to work under the radar and pop up with signings like Tiote and like? I am just confident in whoever Carr and Pardew can agree to bring in. Carr seems to have a nack at it.

  12. Alan, there’s always the one out of the blue i.e. Jonas and Routledge and there’s always that transfer saga like Coloccini and Ben Arfa!

I do think though that Sigthorsson and Wijnaldum are more likely the type of players we will go for over Gervinho.

  13. SS have done those reviews on 12 players across Europe and no-one has been rated higher than Sigthorsson. I’m starting to really like him!

  15. Dave – He’s a striker who plays in Russia. Just moved to CSKA so I doubt there is any chance of him being allowed to leave.

In imperialist Russia they say who stays and who goes!

  16. I just have a feeling that Gervinho could be a possibility 😆 .
Reffering back to the earlier threadabout Benny, I can remember a while back there was some fans saying why do we not make Ben Arfa comeback and start to bed in with his team-mates etc but I do think letting the Lad stay close to his family will pay dividends in the future 😉

  19. DAVE ime 100% with you on him in fact i would say if we stay up hes nailed on,

trouble trying to get players from russia is a lot of them are on big bucks now

  20. toonsy…me too… 😆 😆

I think HBA’s comeback date is tied into how quickly we can get the six points to guarantee our safety…but I think he will defintely get a run out before the end of the season, probably one of the final home games…

  21. If Carr thinks someone is good enough lets just get them, probably the most trustworthy person at the club.

  22. Graham Carr sounds like the Messiah! 😯

If we had a few more good scouts we would be laughing.

“As soon as you get on youtube, four 0′s are added to your price tag”

Is the price not linked to how many views the video gets?
