Season ticket sales highlight stupendous support.

NUFC report encouraging season ticket sales.
Newcastle United have actually commented on club matters today by telling us all how well season ticket sales are going.

Apparently sales of season tickets are at their highest level for five years at the moment, and of those that have chosen to renew a staggering 90% of them have opted for the ten-year ‘price freeze’ that was launched a couple of months back.

The fact that season ticket sales seem to be on the up is a good thing as it gives the club a guaranteed income for the season. Of course people can opt-out of the ten year deal at any time, but at least it gives the club an idea of what it can expect in ticket revenue.

Hopefully this will translate into effective spending over the summer! The fans have done their part and will continue to do their part, but now it’s time for the club to do it’s piece and to start assembling a team that the punters will be happy watching.

Away from finances though, nothing surprises me about our support. We are a one-club city, in a city that happens to be extremely passionate about football. We’ve pretty much always backed the team in large numbers and will more than likely continue to do so whichever league we are in.

It’s certainly one in the eye for those who claimed that numbers would start to drift away from St James’ Park and goes to show, despite the worst recession in living memory, that people are still willing to part with some of their hard-earned dough to go and support United. Head of Customer Operations Simon Esland spoke to The Chronicle and had this to say:

“We are really pleased with the season ticket sales so far. We haven’t sold so many season tickets at this stage of April for five years.”

“The response from our fans has been excellent and 90% of them have taken up the option of the 10-year package. So far it has only been existing season ticket holders who have renewed, and if they want to guarantee their seats for next season they have until the end of the month.”

“We’re really pleased with how our fans have stuck by the club once again this season. At a time when people are keeping money in their pocket they have came back in such great numbers and this has been a massive boost for us.”

“It just shows the strength of support at Newcastle United. We thank them once again for their phenomenal support and loyalty.”

Fair play to those have renewed out of loyalty and have not waited to see who we sign first before committing to a season ticket. They have chosen to support the team without strings attached and for that they cannot be faulted.

Hopefully we’ll see our average gate rise a bit more next season!

  1. Are there any plans to increase the size of St. James’ Park?
I recall reading last year (I think) about a new owner that wanted to expand to 60,000 if I recall.
But, are there any actual plans that show where the expansion would take place and what it would look like?

I guess there’s part of me that is wondering if the renewing of season ticket sales and perhaps an increase in the amount of ST holders might justify putting those plans into action.

  2. 😯 😯 Bring back the days of when its hard to get tickets for home games 😀

  3. I doubt the ground will be expanded any time soon. The club is just breaking even and not yet filling current capacity (though not far short) Doubt Ashley will stump up even more money any time soon.
There were some plans to extend the Gallowgate end a while ago and take the capacity up to 60,000 but don’t think that is likely for some time.

  4. it would be difficult to extend without it looking daft! The East stand is the one that could give us a big jump in capacity but I am unsure of the limitations in terms of the housing behind it.

Ireland should be signed up asap for me. A quality quality player. Pards will have seen all he needs to in training

  5. Well I’m not renewing no matter who we buy 😆

The Chronicle headline was a bit misleading….or should I say an outright lie 🙄 ..as Nufc season tickets havn’t “hit a 5 year high” 👿

  6. The East stand can’t be extended because the houses behind are listed buildings – the only extension could be the Gallowgate end

  7. I think the East stand could be rebuilt in a different way, kind of old school-esq to get a third tier on it, but yeah the gallowgate to replicate the john halls the obvious thing to do

  8. Raffo…..The East stand can’t be extended, think plans were for the Gallowgate to be extended.

If he buys a player purely from what he’s seen in training then more fool him, apart from the fact it’s irrelevant how good he is if he’s injured all the time……We’ve had loads of managers say Shola’s “untouchable” in training 😉 ….unless they just meant if you touch him he fall’s over 😆

  9. That’s headlines for you Richie but the fact seems to be that renewals are ahead of any of the last 5 years so far which is good news whichever way you look at it. The 10 year deal and the fact that we will be in the Premiership next season should mean final season ticket sales are very healthy. I renewed straight away and will be very happy with my ticket price frozen for 10 years.

  10. 3hours….Yeah 90% renewal is good regardless, but if I remember correctly in past seasons there’s been a longer renewal period so it would naturally follow that the figures should be higher earlier.

If I was still in UK I’d renew regardless of who’s in charge or who’s been signed.
The 10 year thing, whilst great for the fans pocket isn’t as great for the club’s finances and if, in the future Ashley wants to sell I can’t see any potential owner being happy at not being able to increase prices until 2022…..still hopefully exciting times ahead 😀

  13. Cannot say I’m suprised, the Sheik at City must be pissed off – why do we sell more season ticket than them? Unbelievable!

Bit of a leap of faith, but I’ leapt anyway.

  14. Was I not clear 😆 ……..meant 90% would be good in any circumstances…..then the renewal rate so far now is a bit deceptive as it’s an earlier cut off point.Made perfect sense in me heed 😆

    Mourinho’s great…vamos los blancos

ffs. Real are painful. Mourinho is a great manager, but he’s murdering this game

You don’t take Barca on at pure football do you? They’ll murder you so you have to come up with another way.

  17. Mourinho doesn’t send his team out to delight crowds. He sends them out to win trophies.

    And that’s generally what happens…

  18. Stuart- I see what you mean, but they don’t look like scoring, and you need to score to go through.

Both teams are like little babies though. cry at every touch, always ask for bookings and always dive, it’s so annoying.

  19. All this play acting is annoying, trying to get each other sent off. It’s poor to watch.

  22. Andrew trying to get each other sent off is bad craic like and maybe they should have officials look at punishing play actors 😉

Yup. I heard 3 year but with 1 yr option on offer.

  24. Stuart – Not really. You do make sense at times. It’s just when you talk about Newcastle you tend to talk bollocks 🙂

  25. HALF TIME TRIVIA:

many players have played for one of the ‘top 4’ English club and also Madrid or Barca.

Can you name players who have played for TWO of the top 4 English clubs (Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool) AND either Real Madrid or Barcelona,,,,,there are more than you may originally think! 😉

The way Barca pass its unreal, I dunno if the play acting is common in the Spanish leagues but both teams seem to be trying hard to get the other team a red card.

I could watch Barca pass all day.

  27. Andrew…..me too, that makes it worse that they can play the right way…..they just don’t thats all……continental football for you……and the prem to a lesser degree 😥
