And the winner of the NUFC Blog Player of the Season award is….

Barton wins.
Well seeing as The Chronicle has unveiled their results for their own Player of the Season Award I guess it’s about time I got my **** into gear and announced ours.

Those who have read The Chronicle today will know that Joey Barton was selected by their readers as their choice of Player of the Season, and in a carbon copy of that result I can reveal that the winner of of the NUFC Blog Player of the Season Award, as voted for by you lot, is none other than……. Joey Barton.

Barton managed to secure 33% of the vote to put him well ahead of Cheik Tiote who finished second on 26%. Rounding off the top was Fabricio Coloccini who managed to secure 17% of the vote.

It’s a defiant message to the club who have announced that they will not be offering a player who has been voted to be the best of the bunch a new deal and is a mark of just how far Joey has come this year and how he has impacted on the first team.

Barton made 35 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring five goals in the process whilst being played mainly in an unfamiliar right-wing role. He was also the source of many an assist last season and set up almost half of Andy Carroll’s goals before his move to Liverpool.

The leadership that Barton displayed was a huge help to the team as they set about securing survival on their return to the Premier League and his performances even saw the midfielder being linked with a return to international football with England at some points. Unfortunately we all know that an England call up is unlikely to happen for Barton, which is a crying shame but I guess some people are unwilling to give people a chance.

Of course there is the now dominant news of Barton’s contract wrangle. It’s been talked about a lot in the last few days and perhaps this poll represents a part of the reason why the news has been so disappointing to many fans.

Anyway, well done Joey Barton – NUFC Blog Player of the Season for the 2010/2011 Premier League season.

In other news…… The Premier League line up for next season is complete as Swansea beat Reading 4-2 in the Championship play-off final this afternoon. That means that the three promoted teams are QPR, Norwich and, obviously, Swansea. We now know what we are up against next season.

Well done Joey. Well done Swansea.

  2. Yep, can’t argue with that, Toonsy – he’s probably the most consistent game-changer we’ve had and deserves the vote. Odd goings-on with the contract, and as usual I suspect it’s both sides at fault, ably set up to to fall out by the scumbag agent.

Come on Joey – accept that at your age, with your record and with the sport’s finances the way they are, a deal taking you to 33 years old, on well over a million a year to play for the only fans who love you is actually a pretty good option. You don’t need the money or the security; just kick that **** McKay out and work summat out. We want you here.

  3. Oh, and Owl Heed and co – give a little, will ya? Hard-ball is all well and good, but you need to restore confidence in your squad that they’re valued.

  4. Congratulations to Collo for winning the NUFCBLOG.CO.UK/Stardust blog player of the year – you won it by a distance fella – well done 😆

  5. I voted Nolan so by virtue of the fact that I set the poll up I’m going to discount all other votes and say Nolan won as without his goals we’d have been in the shyte

  6. Stardust, I think he made a few howlers thru the season which have resulted in goals against.
Just admit you are wrong on this one.

  7. Is the hullaballoo all just negotiating stances between Joey/Agent/Board?

And, honest question, why are we still talking about Gervinho when Lille’s manager said today or yesterday that he’s going nowhere? Am I just being naive in thinking that he means it? Is he just posturing to talk up the transfer price?

I’ve answered my own questions, haven’t I? I’ll shut up now.

  8. BB – Oh My God

I will now have to apply a -99% discount to all of your statements for credibility.

You will now be taken as seriously as half an egg custard on all things football 😆

(If you’re offended at being compared to half an egg custard – I could change it to a Leaky Welly) 😆

    Ha Ha 😀

  10. I have just consulted the adjudicator – he states Toonsys vote for Nolan doesn’t count. Nolan apparently is 22 stone, twice the weight of a full footballer – therefore all Nolans votes get a 50% discount so Toonsys vote for Nolan is only 0.5 of a vote – Collo though the adjudicator says gets a x 200% for all votes for the “panache factor”

I think this poll has the credibility of a FIFA delegated presidential election.

Its clear with the panache factor, Nolan fat discount, Joeys tache discount, Tiotes karate chop discount that Collo’s the winner and the adjudicator – who I have kidnapped and am holding at knifepoint agrees 😆

He claims he loves Collos hair like I do too 😆

  11. Hi Deb – we’re all great Deb thanks – what part of the world are you in today?

Hope you’re fine and dandy too – and I trust to agree with me Collo’s the best – if not stand by – the adjudicator needs company 😆

Like Carroll was going nowhere?

  13. Hi Stardust – at home 🙂 I agree wholeheartedly with the Colo decision, he’s immense.

Have you moved into your place yet?

      (Quote)

  14. Yeah we have – I’m so chuffed! and now to furnish the blumin thing – everything we’ve accumulated doesn’t work – so its like starting again – which is hard (but enjoyable) could still probably throw 100k at it and still need more 😯

      (Quote)

  15. Stardust – You can throw £100,000 at me if you like? Hell even £1,000 would do for now 😆

  16. Wow! A day to remember, a day to tell your kids about: We’ve seen democracy in action. Raise your glasses to Silvio Toonsysconi and Sepp Blatterdust, democracy in action. Eat your heart out Barak!
Seriously though, let’s get these votes in perspective. Joey had a good season, but what about the rest of his time with us?
Sorry but that doesn’t justify his stance over his contract negotiations! Wake up Joey, you owe this club, big time.

      (Quote)

  17. No no no no!!!!!!

I agree with Stardust about Collo!

He won by a country mile for me. 😯

      (Quote)

  18. Now then S…. – Lesh 😆

Is the fact he is willing to take a wage cut not enough of a move towards the board?

Other than that he holds the power – all players do – I find it poor form all round – but we do only know 10% of the story. So its tough to select a side to back

(apart from Collo’s side which we all should take – Collo deserves a new contract, he should be the new face of Loreal – because he is worth it woooshhhhh) 😆

      (Quote)

  19. Booby Clingon – probably the only thing we’ve ever agreed on!

But I did tell you he had the class 3 years ago when you and the mob were on his back

  20. If berbatov has had a bust up with rudolph, is there any chance we could poach him on the cheap.
Well it is comedy neet on the blog

      (Quote)

  21. Starlatter, yer right that we only know 10% of the story but what we do know he’s voicing off against the owners – in public now and one must wonder what’s been said beforehand? He hasn’t helped his case and I’d love to hear he’s gonna commit to the contract he turned down. But has the damage been done and is he looking for a pay-off now? In joey’s shoes now, i’d say it was worth a punt. Shame really.

      (Quote)

  22. For me it should have been Colo 🙂

Still though Joey has had a great season for us, well done.

      (Quote)

  23. voted Colo, and by the looks of it so did most of this thread! Screw democracy Coco deserves it! Although I’m glad Barton’s winning it for the national media, as it sends a defiant message out to Ashley and above all Owl Heed the smug c*nt 😡

  25. BB-Berbatov is a childhood toon fan, he’s making his way to Newcastle now to sign up after Fergie insulted him

  26. Evening lads, speaking of twitter, who other than cwarr07 are good for rumours on nufc? I mean fairly reliable (if theres such a thing!)?????

  27. @stardust

You said Colo was the player of the season for the past 3 seasons.
You are absolutely clueless beyond belief.

You get no credit from anyone, anywhere, anytime. 😛

      (Quote)

  28. On the Barton thing, I think we may have to get used to it. He is one of a few remaining players signed under the old model before sense set in. Why pay a 29-year-old with serious issues £3m a year into his mid-thirdies when you can spend £5m up front, less on salary and get a 25-year-old who’ll cost less and be worth more than you paid for him as he gets older?

Joey, Colo and others just need to realise that the game’s up and if they want to enjoy life they should just take what’s offered and enjoy being part of something special. Or they can hold out for more money, and just maybe they’ll get it. But at what cost?

Ashley’s made his position clear, and there can be no exceptions. It’s a shame, but the honeymoon is over and players have to be realistic now. There are better options out there, so they may have to ‘make do’ on less than £2m a year.

    Diddums.

You are assuming the replacement, whether it be Cabaye, will be better than Barton.

    That is the issue.

It was only in February that Pardew was stating Barton had 5 or 6 more years at the top.

    I don’t agree with you.
