Decision time for Jose at NUFC?

D-day for Jose?
Jose Enrique and his advisers are said to be involved in talks regarding the future of the player this week, with the early gossip suggesting that Jose could be set to agree a new deal at the club.

Now these talks aren’t new news as they were revealed last week when Alan Pardew claimed that Jose was said to the recipient of a “fantastic offer” to pledge his future to NUFC, but understandably fans will want to see a positive outcome at the earliest opportunity to allay any fears that we could be set to lose one of our best players.

Of course being realistic none of us are going to know the state of play until the club confirm either way what has happened. No matter how much “early gossip” there is flying about none of it can really be taken seriously unless someone is sitting in the meeting room with them.

My own personal view is that Jose will be away. I think the club know this which is why I think we’ve been sniffing around Cheikh M’Bengue as a replacement should talks not be able to persuade Jose to stay. Obviously we’d all love it if Jose was to reaffirm his commitment to the black and white cause but I’m prepared for the worst just in case.

One would hope that Jose would take a look at the impending transfer action that is said to be taking place at St James’ Park at the moment and think twice about throwing the towel in at Newcaste, if he ever was going to throw the towel in at Newcastle. Granted nothing is confirmed in terms of signings, nothing 100% official, but there does seem to be an awful lot of hints suggesting that there is a head of steam building and that the club is looking to improve.

With the news that Joey Barton is not going to be offered a new contract imminently it would be another bitter blow if we were to lose another one of our better performers. However, with interest in the player seemingly cooling off perhaps there is some small chance of Jose signing on again?

I guess the best way to play it is to wait and see. It doesn’t help the nerves of course, but it’s the only way we are going to get a definitive answer. Even those “in the know” people seem to be contradictory on what they claim is going to happen, and with them being so in the know but without actually knowing the same thing it makes me wonder how we are supposed to know? 😉

Of course if what I deem as the unexpected is to happen and Jose does agree to a stay on Tyneside it would probably be one of the best bits of business that we will conduct this close season, regardless of who we bring in. Keeping hold of your betters players is a good thing, and whilst that doesn’t look like it will happen in the case of Joey Barton, it may well happen in the case of Jose Enrique.

As ever, time will tell. Fingers crossed though!

  1. I’m going to change my opinion on this. My gut is telling me that he will stay. As long as we meet his wage demands, we can offer him as much as any non-CL club.

  2. I think he will be informed of “immenent” signings if he decides to stay. Lets hope he stays!

  3. Anyone know what is up with Ed? Loads of people are saying get well soon but I can’t see why?

      (Quote)

  4. Be interesting if he does decide to day. If he does then it was probably all talk for money, he was speaking his mind when he said he wanted to say, then he thought/was told-plenty more money if you say you want away…be interesting if the club reward that and don’t reward wanting to stay i.e Barton..hmm..

  5. Andrew 😀
Heartbreak…medically he’s perfectly healthy, he just seems to have given up the will to live…

      (Quote)

  6. Newkie- probably money plus wanting to see the club improve. Can’t blame him if that’s the case. He has always said good things about the club and living in Newcastle in general.

      (Quote)

  7. Toonsy, Ed had a comment on his homepage a few days ago saying hed be going into hospital to have some surgery done or something, so thats why people are saying get well soon

      (Quote)

  8. -MDS aye as long as he wants the club to improve/starts playing well again can’t argue with it, vital we keep our besties.

      (Quote)

  9. Ed was due to have surgury but was cancelled due to blood pressure problems , they need to regulate that before they can operate

  10. I see wraith is still acting as thick as mince in twitter. Apparently he’d gave berbatov but he isn’t sure he would sign for peanuts.

Must be on about that laughable 25k a week wage cap again 🙄

    Frickin dunce 🙄

  11. @samuelj29060 Lille have granted the Magpies permission to speak to Gervinho’s representatives – no mention of #AFC permission 😆 😆 😆

  12. Judging by the way we seem to be straight on the nail in getting players either signed or sounded out and have acted immediately in the transfer market, i can see Enrique doing a double take on this.

Firstly, if there is a very good offer on the table (fingers crossed) and Enrique sees the quality that we are aiming for, then he just might see his future being cemented here.

Let’s face it: Only the big 4 should be able to turn his head in reality ..Man U/Arsenal/ManCity/Chelsea…

The rest (assuming we sign the quality we are after) are no better off than us in terms of guaranteeing him a Spanish cap.

Obviously there is options for him to go back to Spain and other European clubs, but still, will it benefit him?

Man Utd have Evra…..Chelsea have Cole…..Arsenal have Clichy….ManCity have kolarov, so Enrique’s unlikely to be going there to play second fiddle.

He’s come on a bundle at Newcastle and he can improve more as well in a better team which(fingers crossed) we will have by the start of the new season.

He has the chance to really stake a claim for an international cap if he keeps up his consistency and that can easily be done with us because we are no small fry club that’s overlooked like some people think.

Come on Jose, i know you’re reading this, this is wolfie here and i’m telling you to get that contract signed and let’s show the Premier league who we are. 😆

      (Quote)

  13. wolfie- agreed. that’s why the only clubs that worried me were Bayern and Milan since they can offer CL and $. Liverpool can only offer $ but so can we.

  15. I don’t think we should under-estimate the pulling power of – dare I say it – Ashley.

Chelski are powered by blood money, Citeh by other forms of dubiousness and dictatorships. Manure are in a bizarre financial mess all of their own making, and Liverpool are really no better a bet than us at the moment.

Spuds… not a bad bet, to be honest; same for ****.

We, meanwhile, have the unique situation of a viable financial model and a British owner with relatively transparent sources of his fortune and a known penchant for going for glory, be it in business or blackjack.

So Jose can either uproot his entire life and move straight into a pre-qualified seat at the top table that has big question marks over its past and future… or stay here and be part of a team that earns its way up there.

Given that he’s already made for life, I know which I’d pick. Same goes for Colo, Barton, Jonas and Nolan.

Sign up, Jose – you’ll be a happier man for it!! 😀

      (Quote)

  16. Whumpie – Doubt footballers think like that. Jose has had a few seasons with us, a few false dawns, 1 relegation and all the mistakes of our current owner.

It does seem we’re on the up, but it might be a case of too little too late for mr. Bull.

Hope I’m wrong like and he does want to stay.

      (Quote)

  17. David – good point; wouldn’t blame him if he didn’t, but I’d be gutted. Just the kind of player we love in black and white.

      (Quote)

  18. I have a sneaky suspicion that he’ll sign up for us as well. The combination of NUFC seeming to be bringing in top quality talent to actually push on and all the rumors of him leaving dying down make me think he could very well believe that Newcastle United could help him be recognized for the Spanish national team

      (Quote)

  19. Andrew at 30. Agreed. There are so many rumours flying out there about various players, yet it has been pretty quiet on the Enrique front. Makes me thing his agent hasn’t gone out and tried to drum up interest yet. Probably waiting to see the contract offer form NUFC first

      (Quote)

  20. Exactly MDS. Why push for a move where you’ll be at a club that is just as well off, if not possibly worse off then your former club becomes. I think the players we’re getting in has sent a big message to Jose. All of these French internationals in the midfield. Krul getting called up for the full Dutch squad. He and “his people” have to have noticed that there will be a very good chance for him to get noticed next year with us. As long as he keeps playing the way he has, I firmly believe that he’ll get picked up by Spain

      (Quote)

  21. Quote from La Specia “Jose Enrique sigatureo pasala rem briante, que si estana bel tenanta en signa. Un’si e toine d’antono. Celebratio po’ NUFC.

  22. Their was reports that he is already the 2nd best paid lb in the prem . IF that is true and we offer him an even bigger contract then he will sign , as for being capped for Spain , well why could that not happen playing for us ? if his form in the premiership warrants it then Spain will pick him , after all some teams in the CL are not of the same standard as most prem teams .

      (Quote)

  23. johno who’s that man is he any good?..
i think he just hurt after pardew said spl is ****

      (Quote)

  24. Nowt Dave – just made it up – just sitting here waiting to see how many ask what it means or translate it with Google 😆 😆 😆

      (Quote)

  25. Very good point Axel. But Jose wouldn’t go to just any CL club. He would only go for a prem team or one in La Liga. But like wolfie pointed out, the prem CL teams have solid LB’s and, as do most of the La Liga teams. He will definitely have the best opportunity to be noticed with us!

      (Quote)

  26. the hahahah was at startdust saying he made that name up lol …nowt to do with your post andrew 😀

  27. Ron @ 35 I have no idea who he is , just went into it , I dont even know why I read it to the end to be honest!

      (Quote)

  29. well its unlikely he will accept the first offer NUFC give him.
Will be some posturing and humming and haaaing, but hopefully we should have the good news we are all waiting for by end of the week. 😯

Hopefully Jose does the right thing in the end.
    got me fingers crossed 😕

It’s all down to the tin plates, baby, yeah!! 😆

  31. Quote from La Specia “Jose Enrique sigatureo pasala rem briante, que si estana bel tenanta en signa. Un’si e toine d’antono. Celebratio po’ NUFC.

I cant believe it, i mamanged to translate it….it says…

Quote from the special “Jose Enrique signs brand new contract and the spanish bulls tanacity in signing and his brother Tony is celebrating in Newcastle.
    😆

  32. Been think about this the past few days. Enrique would prolly have to take a pay cut to move. Bayern and Lyon will not match his wages. Neither will Liverpool. Milan have taiwo now and manure have evra and I doubt they were ever really interested. So where will he go? Barca and Real would be a problem but they aren’t in for him.
If we offer him a good contract and he see we’re moving forward he’ll stay.

  34. Probably reading too much into it, but seems a bit coincidental Barton not offered contract, then what sounds to be a change of mind by Enrique.

    Do they get along?

  35. Daverism – pass mate. Never heard of any rumblins between the pair but you never know I guess.

      (Quote)

  36. Remember they had a little spat against Blackburn rovers away a few seasons ago, my first away game…Got beat 3-0 😆

      (Quote)

  37. Dave- been thinking the two might be related but not for that reason. I think it comes down to wages. If we are goiing to increase enrique’s wages, plus give higher wages to the likes of Cabeye plus Gervinho/Gamerio, the club may not want to give out another 3-4 year deal at 40K+. Just a thought…

      (Quote)

  38. Im probably reading too much into it, I do know Jose has a bit of a temper and wor Joey needs no introductions.

What’s your take on all this transfer talk toonsy lad? I’m getting excited!

      (Quote)

  39. Daverism – I love it mate. Not everyones cup o tea and that but I love a bit of speculation. I just hope it turns out to be more than that this time round 😐

      (Quote)

  40. MDS, that sounds more likely actually mate. Be gutted to see Joey go, but if were after better, younger players.. Can’t see where he’d fit in, 60k a week or whatever for essentially (and unfortunately) a squad player isn’t good business.

Fair play Ashley, if that’s the reason.

      (Quote)

  41. Remember, Joey said Jose loves himself and is always looking in the mirror. Maybe Joey’s been winding him up and they had a fall out and it’s just spiralled.

Obviously i’m purely speculating here mind. 😆

      (Quote)

  42. Just speculation Dave. I kind of look at Cabeye as Joey’s replacement rather than an “addition” to the squad. Younger, cheaper, but still quality. Goes along with what the club has claimed is their longterm vision (rightly or wrongly). As you say, fair play to them. Definately prefer to have them both though…

      (Quote)

  43. Nah Toonsy I love it mate, sort of a replacement for the footer!

MDS, he’s defo a replacement for Joey. A very, very capable one at that. More excited about him than the Gervinho/Gameiro rumours!

      (Quote)

  44. I think they got the deal for Cabeye lined up right after the season and for that reason decided not to offer Joey. Both things seemed to have happened simultaeously. Plus Joey’s comment about the club wanting to go “younger and cheaper.” It would also explain why they tried to sign Joet 2 months ago and then pulled the plug.

I would be happy with either Gervinho or Gemeiro. Would only be gutted if we failed to get either…

      (Quote)

  45. It will still be a true shame if Joey ends up leaving after what he brought to the squad this season. Really don’t want to see him go, especially on bad terms

      (Quote)

  46. Daverism MDS, he’s defo a replacement for Joey. A very, very capable one at that
How do you know that when he hasn’t been tested in the prem ? I have seen a few ( Bigger ) players than Cabeye and not settle in the Prem so I just cant see how fans can be sure that any new players will settle into the Prem or even in our team

      (Quote)

  47. I love Joey Barton and want him to stay and although the speculation surrounding what the full deal is will go from one extreme to another, one thing is certain and that is, he owes this club really.

I mean, how many clubs would have stood by Joey with all that.

He’s lucky he’s actually on the contract he is and if i was in his position i’d have took what was on offer simply because i would feel i owed it to the club to repay their faith in me.

      (Quote)

  48. Big Dave- I don’t disagree mate. Thought toonsy’s article the other day about balance is was right on. Jonas, Ben Arfa and Tiote were good from day one; Collo and Enrique weren’t. It is a bit of a crapshoot to be sure.

      (Quote)

  49. Wolfie so you think Joey should have took whatever offer the club made him ?
Has Joey not repayed the club for sticking by them when they got relegated or for helping them stay up this season, when does the pay back end ?

      (Quote)

  50. But Joey should have taken the contract offered by the club that still took him to 31 years old. Nobody would make a contract any longer than that cuz u just dont know how the body is gonna hold up

      (Quote)

  51. Dave, I don’t expect him to accept a silly contract no..but i would imagine he’s been offered a decent contract and even though it’s not the length he was after and the wages he was after, it will still be a better contract offer than any club will give him ” in my opinion”.

Joey didn’t jump ship when we were relegated like many of our players didn’t..but let’s not forget that the same players were on Premier wages in the Championship, including Joey, who at the time wouldn’t have got a move to a club anyway…well at least not a bigger club.

So in that respect, i still think he owes this club one good season at least.

Whether that’s to finish his contract i don’t know..but as i said, i’d like him to sign whatever contract was on offer because as i said ” it would have been a fair one i bet”

      (Quote)

  52. I can fully understand why Joey wants the longer deal. Security and that. But then again, if he is so certain that he can play on, nd to be fair he probably can as most footballers can, then why not take the deal knowing that you can perform well enough to get another deal in a couple of years time?

There are different flavours to suit each argument really. It’s just a bit of compromise which is needed from all sides IMO.

      (Quote)

  53. Wolfie that avatar cracks me up man. It’s a shame people can’t see it properly 😆

      (Quote)

  54. Yes Toonsy, like, take the contract offered and a rolling contract after that.
At least then he and the club are clear in what they both expect and that is…..the club knowing that he’s capable enough and fit enough to carry on the rigours of the Prem and it will be clear to him that he has to keep up his general fitness and performances on the field.

It might sound like i’m against Joey here but i’m not, i just think the club are playing it safe knowing that anything more than the contract they’ve offered, could come back and bite them.

The problem with stuff like this is, it always seems to appear to show Mike Ashley in a bad light as though he’s just penny pinching for the sake of it.

Most fans buy into all this without reasoning…but i don’t buy into it, simply because, i know in my “own” mind, that Ashley has the best intentions for this club but he isn’t gonna play anybodies fool.

Toonsy knows my thoughts on Ashley lol and that’s the main reason why i was really kicked off footymad hahahahaha.

But Toonsy has good reasoning and actually views stuff from an open minded perspective instead of a blinkered one like quite a few fans do.

Now calm down lads, i’m not having a go at you lot on here. 😀

      (Quote)

  55. Big Dave,

I base it upon the fact that I’ve seen him numerous times, a combative, yet attacking midfielder. The premiership isn’t so special these days mate, take away the aggression (which Cabaye possesses) from the premiership, and it’s no different from any other top league.

      (Quote)

  56. Have any official offers been put in for Enrique yet? I’m just wondering If Ashley’s resolve has been tested at all? What would be reassuring is if we keep him on Tyneside without bowing to any ridiculous wage demands, and in the mean time reject any appropriate valuation for him, especially from our top 8 rivals…
