Game on! Newcastle v Fulham #bringbackthescarves

Bringing back the scarves against Fulham.
Newcastle take on Fulham today knowing that a win would see the home side have their best start to a Premier League season for 16 years.

Not since the title challenging days of Kevin Keegan have we been in with a chance of making a start like this, and with the international break coming up this home match gives the players a chance to send the fans into the two week break knowing that despite everything else that is going at the moment the results have stacked up.

Today will also signal the start of the ‘bring back the scarves’ campaign which has been set up by various fan groups using social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook to spread the word. The aim is to create a vociferous atmosphere to spur our players on and strike fear into the opposition, which has of course had the backing of this site and has attracted interest from the press along the way. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Back to the match today, and it’s fair to say that Fulham are a bogey team of ours. We’ve not beaten them in four attempts although their results art St James’ Park are being somewhat overstated in my opinion – they have won here three times.

It will still be a tough game of course as Fulham are good, well organised side, but at least it’s at home. Last season that ‘home’ comment would have been laughed off such was our awful home record, but today gives us a chance to try and put the right. Quite simply you need to win your home games, and we failed to do that enough last season. Will we see an improvement on that front?

If you haven’t already had a read of the match report you can do so by clicking here. It was published yesterday but I didn’t leave it up long enough thanks to the Carling Cup draw which needed covering so feel free to take a look at some potential team selections, injury news and some facts and stats ahead of the match.

As far as viewing the match goes, there is no UK TV coverage although there are plenty of channels overseas that are showing the match. I sometimes feel we get a raw when it comes to TV coverage in the UK but still… This means tnat those who can’t make the game today will have to make do with an internet stream. The closure of MyP2P doesn’t help the cause so if any of you guys and gals manage to find a decent one on your travels make sure you share it with the rest of us and leave a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

That’s about it really. Kick-off is at 1pm UK time so make sure you adjust your clocks/watches accordingly so you don’t have to miss any of the match. Team news is below.

  1. With Moreno

Tiote is worth a yellow for consistant fouling.

  3. Eh you’re welcome for the stream.

If you have problems with it clear your cache of cookies and junk, worked a treat for me. Bloody took me 60+ minutes to get a decent stream going, worth it to see Bestie’s 2nd goal.

  4. A shout to all the defenders as well, who’ve been brilliant for the most part this season. Though some will no doubt want Simmo shipped out.. 🙄

  5. Hope Best can keep scoring for us. His second goal was brilliant.

The commentators described each of Tiote’s tackles as worthy of yellow cards. I was not arguing about the total deserving a card.

  6. These commentators really know nothing about the club do they?

“Certainly good for Newcastle fans to have Alan Smith back”….. Pffffffft…

    Took 2mins…
