Cabaye and Ba fit and ready for Spurs?

Cabaye and Ba - Fighting fit for Spurs?
Newcastle fans have been sweating over the fitness of Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye over the last few days, but it seems as though the concern was uncalled for, according to Lee Ryder anyway.

The news regarding Ba suggested that the Senegalese international was found to have an issue with his knee which meant that he sat out the international game at the weekend and didn’t take part in any training.

However it appears that it was all precautionary and the striker should be fit to face Spurs at the weekend which will allow the Toon Army a collective sigh of relief give the rich vein of form the striker is in. Ba’s scored 4 since Ramadan, and he just can’t get enough…

Now call me cynical if you like, but I find it strangely coincidental that Ba supposedly picked up an injury against Wolves, went away with Senegal, didn’t play in the meaningless game thanks to injury, but now he is supposedly fit for the game at the weekend. Job done?

The other player with injury concerns is Yohan Cabaye. Since the France game last Friday I’ve heard stories of injuries of varying degrees, each with it’s own recovery timescale ranging anywhere from zero to six weeks.

Of course eyes will be on the side that Laurent Blanc picks this evening but it would appear that Cabaye has taken part in training ahead of the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina is Saint-Denis. Personally I think it’s a tad harsh that France have to play two countries this evening, but the fact that Yohan is training should stand us in good stead for the weekend.

Whether Cabaye is picked or not should be a good indication of how his injury is. The former Lille man has established himself as a key figure for Les Bleus under Laurent Blanc, and with France still needing a result this evening to guarantee a passage to Euro 2012 you would have to think that if Cabaye is fit then he will feature.

Of course much of this is just hearsay and speculation at the moment and there is an awful lot of “understanding” going on. The local journalists have got it wrong before so I guess the only way we’ll really know for sure is when Alan Pardew talks to the media on Thursday.

Hopefully he’ll be the bearer of good news!

  1. I hope this is the club asserting themselves and striking deals with the country managers to protect the players. Neither team should need more than fringe players (although look at our rabble at Montenegro last week) so I hope we get fit players home and ready to train for Sunday.

  2. An aside, if it’s ok with Toonsy:

A couple of weeks back, thanks to this blog, I had a slot on Absolute Radio talking about Toon stuff. They gave me one of these:
    http://www.johnlewis.com/230680450/Product.aspx

I don’t really need it (already got 2) so I’d like to sell it and give the money to Run Geordie Run (specifically the Children’s Foundation bit of his fund).

Anyone happy to pay £50 for it? I’ll cover postage.
(If nobody on here is keen, I’ll stick it on eBay and donate directly.)

  3. Can only mean good things for us as fans and a headache for the manager IF these guys are fit and ready to play.

    Bring on spurs

Bosnia-Herzagovina. They really shouldn’t require Cabaye. They probably want to give some other center mids playing time too, I would think

  5. Rodz – Re: Whumpie and his radio fame.

You should know that he is my both now so as such I’ll be requiring royalties for anyone who wishes to listen to him 😉

I’ve been meaning to upload the MP3 for ages now but it’s a right faff trying to upload MP3’s to YouTube as you have to convert the files using some dodgy sites 😕

    On Ba and Cabaye.

I think Ba was a fast one being pulled, but I have doubts on Cabaye. In a way ‘d like to see him play tonight as it would ease concern, but on the other hand there is the fact that he may aggravate/pick up a new injury.

  6. Whumpie, is there any recordings of your moment of fame?

Just so we can make sure you represented the site to the fullest:)

  7. Bit of a random question but does anyone know who our first choice penalty taker would be now? Obviously departures during the summer got rid of our previous one and ameobi isn’t first choice (hopefully indefinitely), smae with mcloven. Would it be cabaye? was just browsing some of the old articles on here and some of his videos show him taking them for lille. Does Ba take any? nufc.co.uk just mentioned that ourselves and spurs are the only teams not to have a penalty given for or against us so far this season

  8. It’s a shame we can’t wheel Shola on for a penalty then take him off afterwards, like they do in the NFL lol

I guess it has to be Cabaye. He’s taken them before and is the only one in our current starting XI that I know is pretty good with them so I’d give him a bash.

  9. Toonsy: Have a look in drafts 😀 I think Cabaye and Ba will be fit, just hoping that Cabaye won’t be risked tonight

  13. Hang on, what are we talking about ❓

I’m thinking about the Spurs game. If we actually put in a good performance and win, it would be very unNewcastle like.
I mean, that would show some consistancy and a decent stretch of positivity!

Even Troy is joining in the love-ins lately. Its making me feel weird!

  14. Zoe – I think its safe to say that whatever happens, dreamboat Cabaye will always be FIT! 😉 😆

Just kidding Zoe, you don’t have to be scared, I’m 8000 miles away from the Toon 😉 and I’m a gentle giant (from the hips down) hahaha… Ok ok… back to football…
This is what happens when I don’t eat the whole day at work 😳

  16. I cannot wait for the spuds game, have really tried not to get carried away by the league position but its bloody nice to look at.

I believe Pardieu has had one eye on this game for a while, i can see Sants starting and can fully understand why. Raylor has not done badly but this is against a very good footballing team so its time to lock horns with our big guns!

On a personal note i would love to beat the spuds to show the nation what we are all about AND show Defoe we are going places after his meeting with Pardieu during the close season. He wanted the club to show ambition and that we had improved…. 😀

  25. Interesting how the pre-match talk (especially from the spurs fans) is about us trying to stifle their midfield and play 4-5-1 at home. I think we will have to do that to a degree but it is a bit disrespectful to our midfield IMO. Will they not have anything to worry about with Jonas, Cabaye, Obertoon, Marveux, Benny ect? Doubt they will be able to just turn up and attack us. I don’t think Pardew will go for a negative formation at home, he just isn’t that sort of manager. Why should we be scared of them at home anyway, go out and attack them IMO, their defense has never been great.

  26. AndrewT, the injury sounds like nowt going by what he said………”I hope I will be fit for Tuesday and that this game does not pass me by. My left ankle got stamped on. I didn’t want to take the risk and came off. I will have tests, I don’t know whether it is a sprain or a bad bruise but it was very painful and I couldn’t carry on like that.”

I’d imagine it was just a bit sore if he’s declared himse;f fit to start. The game’s on ESPN anyway, I’m gona watch it. Fingers crossed……

Armenia ‘keeper just been sent off…

  27. Very good point DJG. IMO, out best attacking formation is with 5 midfielders because we have a lot of quality there. Ben arfa probably isn’t ready to start, but I know that Marveaux is
