Game on! Manchester City v Newcastle – Sammy and Benny start!

Welcome to the Etihad?
It feels like an eternity since I’ve last written this bit, so welcome one and all to the ‘Game On’ article which will take us through every twist and turn of the match against Manchester City.

In a season that has been full of first real tests, the game against Mancini’s title-chasing outfit provides with another as we go toe to toe with the superstars of the Etihad Stadium.

There is an edge to this game today. Whilst a lot of Newcastle fans aren’t expecting much apart from a decent performance, there are some other interesting sideshows that could develop today. The first one being Hatem Ben Arfa who will revisit the scene of his horror injury for the first time since Nigel de Jong put him out of the game for a year. The other one being an unbeaten record that both teams possess, with only one being the overwhelming favourite to hold that accolade come around 5pm this afternoon.

This is a match that needs little build up. The task is huge and the odds are against us, but we’ve dealt with that already this season and at the end of the day it’s only 11 v 11 on a little grass field. Simple, yet true.

If you fancy having a look at some impressive stats, potential team news, injury updates and a bit more background to the fixture then why take a look at Shamrock’s fantastic match preview article here. Honestly, it’s a cracking read.

In terms of streaming, the match is on numerous overseas channels so picking one up should be easy enough. Once again the emphasis is on the word ‘should’ as trying to grab a stream can sometimes be hard work. However, should you stumble across a good one then make sure you leave a link for it so others can share it.

That just about wraps it up for me and now we must leave it to our boys to write the rest with their actions at the Etihad this afternoon.

  1. It’s gonna be a gruelling test of endurance today. A lot of time spent without or chasing the ball. Howay lads, hold your discipline.

Man the commentators on Setanta are ALL for Man City…

  2. Book Richards for kicking the ball away surely?

We need to do something other than clear the ball to Ba.

  5. I can’t believe some people were thinking we’d get anything from this match.

Even a draw is going to be a miracle pulled off by the sort of tactics we ranted about Big Sam using.

  6. Not sure if my old jam tart can handle this 🙄

  7. We’ve had the two best chances so far…..Demba Ba could have had 2….howay lads…..

Have a feeling that young Sammy might come good today, cutting in from the right wing…

  8. Yes, because all Celtic fans and Catholics do that.

Nice bit of prejudice there, will do this blog’s image a lot of good if it gets about.

  9. FJ – Tell someone who gives a **** pal. If you spout *****, such as writing us off after 32 minutes when we’re at 0-0, you must expect it back. Don’t be a fanny.

Beisdes.Last time I checked Celtic had been charged on two counts of it? UEFA must also be prejudice…

Penalty. I guess FJ is happy now

  10. Decent performance but we need to take those chances. It’s going to cost us.
Pathetic hand ball from Raylor. Instead of extending himself to block it he should have closed Balotelli down. Had loads of time.
    Terrible time to concede.
Can see that opening the floodgate unfortunately 😐
