Game On! Bolton v Newcastle

Welcome to Bolton
Are we all feeling suitably stuffed after the festivities of yesterday? Well hopefully the only stuffing we’ll be reflecting upon later is that of Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

To be honest I’ve gone beyond wanting a stuffing. A scrappy 1-0 win courtesy of an own goal will do for me as it will end a run of six games without victory which has put our great start to the season in jeopardy.

However it won’t be easy and the first goal will be important. It was evident against West Brom when they scored first. Prior to that we looked confident and never really looked in any danger of losing but once Peter Odemwingie put the Baggies ahead we started to lose that bit of confidence and ended up chasing things which if course suited West Brom.

Today will be much the same in my opinion. Bolton may have got a positive result against Blackburn in midweek but prior to that they went through an awful run that saw then planted near the foot of the table. Confidence will still be lacking from Owen Coyle’s men and a goal against them will set the alarm bells ringing once more. Consequently the reverse is also true and if Bolton score first they’ll gain more confidence.

Anyway, that is enough of a preview from me! Why? Simple really. Shamrock has once again written a most excellent preview which you can view here which you can then follow up on by reading a bit of a stat-attack from our resident statto here.

As far as a stream goes, I’m hopeful of finding one although you can never be certain of finding a reliable stream. What I will say is that it is being broadcast on quite a few overseas channels so the chances of finding one are fair to moderate. If you do stumble across one then why not share it with the rest of us?

That just about wraps this festive ‘Game On’ feature up and now it’s over to you guys to get the banter and chit-chat flowing.

Howay the lads!

  1. if we lose today i will be very unhappy , we need to beat the bottom sides to psh up the table , we are due a win

  2. Obertan having a mare of late but he can definitely torture Robinson for pace, hopefully like he did to Givet against Blackburn

Army, disappointed too but looking at their side he`s probably better used as an impact sub, 2 very big CB and Muamba will sit right in front of them

    Heart says 3 – 1 Toon, Head says 1 – 1

  3. The first 3 matches of the 6 match winless run were understandable, The 4th was predictable and the last two were disappointing but against solid sides with some good players, This is one isnt we should be winning this…

  4. hope there’s going to be a good link to watch it on boys!!! if anyone finds one, please share :-), hope all geordies have had a good christmas, just need the toon to give us a win to make it a happy one..

  5. Williamson is gonna have to be strong today. No way would Perch have been able to handle Klasnic, Knight and Cahill.

  6. DJG

Aye we should have beaten them but they will do that to better teams than us, Soak up pressure and nick points, Bolton arent with a natural pair of centre halves and Cabaye back well win…

  7. Cahill will crumble today. He’s been **** all season and now its public knowledge that he’ll be off to Chelsea. Plus Ba can rip him a new one. I doubt many defenders will fancy lining up againt him at the moment.

  8. Gutted Ben Arfa isn’t starting. They have 2 huge cb’s that will be nullifying Ba and Best in the air, so HBA would have been able to move the ball around them.
Obertan needs to exploit Robinson and actually do something about it

  9. surprised ben arfa is not starting, he changed our attacking play when he came on , on wed night. then again he was a bit ball greedy, but you could see west brom didnt know how to handle him!!

  10. Gutted Best starts again, if a PL centre forward hasn’t scored since September how hasn’t he been dropped? His all round game lately has been poor. Offside constantly.

Would have much preferred Vuckic to play.

I think we played this defence against Scunthorpe didn’t we and got battered?

Hoping for a win today because no good team goes this long without a win. Big ask after out recent home form. I think WB showed that you need pace to play 2 up top, Best needs to be replaced with an Odemwingie type player.

  11. Just hope we have more about us than chipping balls forward to Best. Best needs to be playing facing the goal so the wide men have to get yo the by line and deliver. Haven’t seen many goals scored when your striker had his back to goal or running towards the corner flag

  12. Well Lad’s and Lasses I hope Santa was good to everyone 😉 and hopefully we’ll get a much needed win to go with it.

Any streams up and running yet ❓

  13. aye not bad, my brother had to work boxing day in sheffield so had to stop at his lasses for christmas so it was different with him not here but aye it was good thanks and ye he was 😀

  14. HBA39 – I see Santon is injured then? Weird considering you insisted he wasn’t and Pardew just took him off for no reason 🙂

  15. It’s about 25 seconds on my one, worth it imo. Defence looking better already with Willo in there. Calmer…

      (Quote)

  16. Obertan just doesn#t look interested…Bolton man was less than a metre away from him and he just watched im stride past with the ball. He is an awful player IMO. Man Utd were so lucky not to make a loss on him.

  17. Moreno, he will be playing his trade in France before you know it in my opinion, not good enough for the prem!

      (Quote)

  18. See Obertan is getting the stick again already. At the same time that Tiote gives away free kick after free kick without mention…

      (Quote)

  19. Leon Best should be training himself up on how to stay onside. 😕 Even in my FM game,he is top in being offside 13times out of just6 league games. 😯

  20. I tried to be kind about Obertan in my preview as a lot of people seemed to think he’s just misunderstood. On his performance so far, I wish I stuck to what I had previously been saying about him with a bit more venom. He is utter rubbish again.

      (Quote)

  21. Sy,

I have given Obertan a hell of a chance. To compare his contribution to Tiote’s isn’t right fella.

You know I back the lads and am the first to defend them so far me to come out and call Obertan tells a story of his recent performances. I never give the lads stick man but he is really poor.

      (Quote)

  22. To be fair, tiote has been poor the last few games, but obertan has been poor all season.

      (Quote)

  23. Jonas didn’t have an option. Not one person made themselves available yet Jonas is ALWAYS available.

Our team is very very lazy at the minute.

      (Quote)

  24. Obertan Decision making has to improve. ❗

Jonas is too slow in making decision on who to pass to.

      (Quote)

  25. Fercking hell man, think i need to get a can of that deodorant that i got yesterday, my armpits stink 😆

      (Quote)

  26. Again our wingers and Best seem to poor for us to create a good chance of goal with a decent action for professional players. I think Pardew will change nothing until we are 0-0 because he is happy with this result

      (Quote)

  27. It’s not about being the best fans in the land, if someone is not performing, fans are bound to get on his back!

      (Quote)

  28. Jonas has been **** for weeks yet get nowhere near the amount of stuck Obertan gets. Why?

    Double standards.

If fans are going to hound one player they must hound the others or else risk being branded hypocrites.

      (Quote)

  29. im getting frustrated at leon best losing the ball all the time…at least collo and willo play like a proper defender

      (Quote)

  30. Toonsy, it would not be right to shower a player with praise who consistently underperforms. I dont see what the problem is with stating the obvious? Guti has actually had quite a bit of stick recently on this site for his forards play contribution and rightly so, but he still does a lot more than Obertan in terms of overall play. Do you think Obertan is doing well for us?
