Game On! Bolton v Newcastle

Welcome to Bolton
Are we all feeling suitably stuffed after the festivities of yesterday? Well hopefully the only stuffing we’ll be reflecting upon later is that of Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

To be honest I’ve gone beyond wanting a stuffing. A scrappy 1-0 win courtesy of an own goal will do for me as it will end a run of six games without victory which has put our great start to the season in jeopardy.

However it won’t be easy and the first goal will be important. It was evident against West Brom when they scored first. Prior to that we looked confident and never really looked in any danger of losing but once Peter Odemwingie put the Baggies ahead we started to lose that bit of confidence and ended up chasing things which if course suited West Brom.

Today will be much the same in my opinion. Bolton may have got a positive result against Blackburn in midweek but prior to that they went through an awful run that saw then planted near the foot of the table. Confidence will still be lacking from Owen Coyle’s men and a goal against them will set the alarm bells ringing once more. Consequently the reverse is also true and if Bolton score first they’ll gain more confidence.

Anyway, that is enough of a preview from me! Why? Simple really. Shamrock has once again written a most excellent preview which you can view here which you can then follow up on by reading a bit of a stat-attack from our resident statto here.

As far as a stream goes, I’m hopeful of finding one although you can never be certain of finding a reliable stream. What I will say is that it is being broadcast on quite a few overseas channels so the chances of finding one are fair to moderate. If you do stumble across one then why not share it with the rest of us?

That just about wraps this festive ‘Game On’ feature up and now it’s over to you guys to get the banter and chit-chat flowing.

Howay the lads!

  1. Moreno – This is true. They sound good on the link, and they aren’t getting on the back of the players 🙂

  2. Don’t agree.

Jonas has been with us years and has earned his fee and wages consistantly for this club for a very long time. My opinion of him and a brand new signing who has been awful isn’t double standards at all.

  3. Yeah in my opinion Obertan, Jonas and Best are in the same level, a level that must send them in the bench for 2 or 3 games

  4. I think i know what pardew writing on that sheet of paper. Dear Mike, our current wingers are ****,I need cash. 😆

  5. @toonsy yes jonas is **** lately but obertan is *******…and btw im not one to boo obertan but if he is **** he is.you dont say boumsong is mint just because he plays for newcastle dont you?

      (Quote)

  6. But he has contributed in the other 15 games, obertan has been good in one, also i haven’t seen anyone say obertan should be sold, just dropped!

  7. Best and Obertan have been poor so far.. fair play to Perch when he stood in at the back but you can see the difference Willo makes aerially, albeit against a poor looking side.. Tiote will be lucky to not get sent off today

  8. Toonsy, overall play over a period of games gives a good idea of how good somebody is. You know that. The mild stick you have seen here today is hardly knee ****… 😛

  9. Moreno – What has Jonas actually done though? A rake of assists? Erm….. Nope. More than a handful of goals? Erm…… Nope…..

As an attacking winger I’d say he’s been handsomely paid for doing **** all.

Like you said, Obertan is a new signing, so why isn’t he getting support instead of criticism?

  10. well theres Tiotes card I was talking about, I just hope he doesn’t get another 😆

As for Jonas I think he doesn’t get as much stick because anyone can see that he would run through a brickwall for the team, and his workrate is 2nd to none. Gabby just never really looks that bothered and is a bit of a lazy player as is Best.

    Well done Krul

  11. Sy,

    Dave summed it up nicely.

We are on a poor run at the minute, Pards needs to change things about. Best isn’t scoring goals either and you need that from your strikers

  12. @Toby
Because when you are a manager, you don’t wanna admit you was wrong. So Pardew wanna keep these players in the pitch because he is sure that he will win with these players. Because when all the fans are saying the same thing, the managers remarks it to but don’t wanna change because that means he was wrong before

  13. Obertan made a good run a minute ago. Good on him. Up to a rating of 5/10 for half time. Something to build on. Probably wont though. 😉

  14. Toonsy, I am struggling to get your militant stance regarding a relevant discussion about a player who many think is poor due to what they have witnessed recently.

You have known my craic for a long time and know I don’t slag our boys off unnecessarily. I am stating my views and if you don’t agree then fine but don’t be so patronising?

  15. Evertime the ball gets to Obertan or Best the move breaks down.

NBA on for Best and Vuckic for Obertan for me.

      (Quote)

  16. hba instead of Best or Obertan..i dont think it can do worse than Obertan or Best. To do worse than Obertan and Best today you must score an own goal..

      (Quote)

  17. Samy is poor but i think we can play HBA in place of Obertan adn Vuckic in place of Best we will be more dangerous in my opinion

      (Quote)

  18. If we are really **** on wings, change to a formation that doesn’t require wing play. SImple. 😈

      (Quote)

  19. Moreno just support the Lads 😆 😆 😆

Toonsy pick them fuking toys up the place is a fuking mess 😆 😆 😆

Best is sh1te and so is Gabby 😉

  20. We are freakin frustrating to watch these days, so many players waste possession time and time again… Raylor, Best, Obertan and most of all Simpson have been dreadfull and i feel really sorry for Jonas and Yohan who work so hard only for some other dude to throw it all away… I also agree that Krul’s kicking sucks monkey b*lls, maybe he should stick to throwing it?

      (Quote)

  21. We always stick to 4-4-2. With wingers who can’t cross this seems a bit silly. A shame our full backs aren’t strong enough otherwise you could play Jonas, Benny and Vuckic behind Ba more centrally. Jonas will naturally drift out wide to give width but that would give us the creativity we are seriously lacking

      (Quote)

  22. To be fair, we do need to stop moaning about obertan cause it is pardews signing so wont be dropped!

      (Quote)

  23. Terrible first half, Pardew needs to make changes, surely he can see that Obertan and Best are a waste of space… maybe Benny and Vukic 2nd half.

      (Quote)

  24. Observations so far:

1 – Aweful game. Service poor.

2 – Defence looking much more assured with a natural centre half alongside Colo.

3 – Guti lost as attacking force doing Raylor’s job yet again.

4 – Obertan is not good enough.

5 – Tiote needs to calm down. If he gets sent off he will let us down badly.

6 – Best rubbish. Not done a lot for a long time now.

7 – Despite his kicking, Krul is very safe hands. Seems like a better communicator than previous keepers.

8 – Can see a half time sub coming in.

      (Quote)

  25. Benny won’t be playing on the wing. How many times do people need telling that before it starts sinking in?

Vuckic is not a winger. How many times do people need telling that before it starts sinking in?

Sooooooo, who plays in place of Obertan?

      (Quote)

  26. Hi lads and lasses ,can’t get a decent live feed . Got soccer saturday on but not sounding like we’re doing as well as we should be. Anyone watching ,how’s Obertan doing this week .

      (Quote)

  27. Angelofdeath-Probably agree with you there…or Vuckic on the left maybe. Don’t think Obertan has been that bad today but i’d replace Best for sure.

      (Quote)

  28. Before people start saying Ryan taylor getting raped without Jonas backing,I actually feel safe with shane playing in front of ryan, since shane played before LB and should be able to defend as well.

    I AM A POTENTIAL MANAGER!~~ 😆

      (Quote)

  29. Poor game. Our wingers aren’t offering anything and Best has been woeful. Needs to be dropped from the first team now. Ben Arfa creates more in 20mins than Best does for the whole time he is on.

Pardew needs to stop with the 4-4-2 he favours and bring Benny on.

Bolton are a **** poor side. Worst I have seen us play this season so far. Have nothing going forward and sit deep at home. They have to be favourites for relegation.

      (Quote)

  30. Yes Toonsy and why Benny not on the wing.. because Pardew think that…? I agree with you but with an other manager he will play on the wing. He played on the wing in the first 3,4 games last year for Newcastle. in Lyon and Marseille, french squad he played in tthe wing so why Pardew doesn’t want to try him on the wing.. because he doesn’t defend enough, maybe it’s time to think how we attack

It’s not about them being wingers, it’s about them be able to do better than Obertan and I’d bet they would both be better on the wing than him. Although we’ll never know unless we try.
