Should we be prepared for Ba to leave?

Ba listening to offers?
The whole Demba Ba contract clause thing just isn’t going away is it?

I mean Harry Redknapp has been at it again today and claims that the release clause is less than the £7 million that has been previously quoted. I won’t go on a rant about him chatting about players contracted to other clubs too much. It’s unethical but hey ho. I expect nothing less from him so I can’t say I’m surprised.

The easy way to put a stop to it is for the club to come out and say something. On one hand, why should they have to say anything? On the other though it would clarify things once and for all. I’d hazard a guess on their silence being louder than any words would be however. There is almost certainly a clause in his contract, but what the clause is remains unconfirmed. Arguably as it should be…

Should we be bracing ourselves for the departure of Demba Ba though? Perhaps not now, but maybe in the summer? With the striker fluttering his eyelashes towards PSG and a whole host of interested suitors thanks to his supreme start to life at Newcastle Ba will have no shortage of options, especially if he is available at a knockdown price.

It’s easy to resolve of course, well, relatively easy anyway. Give Demba a new contract that reflects his ability. He’s proven that he can cut the mustard so there is an argument for the club giving him a contract that can reflect that which is a risk when you consider his knees. It’s a risk that another club will be willing to take however, of that I have no doubt.

I honestly don’t believe that Demba Ba is here for the long haul anymore. We’ll be lucky to get through January with him still in black and white and that, I feel, is only down to his participation in the African Cup of Nations.

I have no expectation of loyalty from any player anymore. Andy Carroll ended that particular train of thought for me. Ba will go where the best offer is, which you can’t blame him for really. We’d all do it. He may be happy on Tyneside at the moment, but I imagine he could be just as happy anywhere else. He’s not like us and doesn’t have an affinity to the area – it’s just a job. Plus you have to question just how long he intended staying around for anyway with such a release clause in his contract?

Make the most of it while you can!

  1. JJ..Wyart’s been on a few times I think and been canny…I wish ‘Arry would take a leaf out of his book 👿

  2. ”Do you think players like Wes Brown and John O’Shea would go to Newcastle? Maybe 5 years ago, but not now. You have just been relatively lucky at finding hidden talents, that nobody else wanted because they thought that they were *****, and fair play to you for this, because you are doing well but if you looked at our squads on paper, ours is better. And why would Ba not come here, wouldn’t have to move house, play alongside better players, and I think he would pounce at the opportunity to work with such a prestigious gaffer such as Martin O’Neill, who shall be remembered in football long after that **** Pardew has gone. Because if you compare the stats, there’s really no match is there?

Face it, we are better than you, and have been for the last 4 years, and shall still be better than you come the end of May, but you can’t seem to take it, you all rant on about 5-1, but the final league position means so much more. I’m sure you shall come with more excuses next season, but it’s fine, I find it rather funny.

Shame, always in our shadow.” 😆 😆

  3. Think the ACN will save Ba for us. Tiote might not be saved by it but what are the chances that a player who has failed medicals in the past, and has admitted to having a knee problem, will be taken by a club who can’t do a proper medical in their own facilities. Ba staying!

  4. Evil & Richie, it’s almost as if it’s someone taking the p*ss. Every club knew Santon, Cabaye and Ben Arfa were sh*t so we were lucky yet they are that big of a club they managed to attract stars such as John O’shea and Wes Brown….

  5. Dan…plus no one else would give 30 or near 30 yr olds bumper 5yr deals for those players other than agent Bruce 😆

  6. Dan – It reads exactly like someone is taking the ****. **** me Cabaye had just won the french title with Lille…so we were lucky that he came good weren’t we 🙄

  7. Dan4toon, What a laugh, they have got to be the most seriously deluded supporters ever, just wait until the adrenalin subsides and the 3 players on bail get the jail or even after a good tanking at Chelsea this weekend, they will crawl back into the woodwork.
I couldnt believe the hype after the scruffy win v Man City, and were they brought back to reality when we beat ManU fair and square when all the talk was of overtaking us? nope, they are all obvious sniffing glue as they genuinely believe they would have a chance of signing Ba oblivious to the fact that 3 of their star players ( including their captain) could soon be turning out for HMP Acklington on a Sunday morning.
Sorry to keep mentioning prison but they adopted the moral high ground whilst Carroll and Barton were in their pomp, funny how its not a big deal now.

He is right about one thing. Five years ago we would be trying to buy the likes of Wes Brown and John O’Shea. So thank goodness we moved on from that.
Next the Scum will be signing up Michael Owen.

But when the best players go and go for a **** fee it’s worse.

It hasnt happened yet but just answering your statement.

  11. UEFA say a player can’t play for 3 clubs in the space of 12 month so he’s definitely here until the summer

      (Quote)

  12. Rumours are just what they are RUMOURS and it will always happen and not just with us either.

Remember in the summer, the rumours about how many of our players were leaving and how many times Tiote has all but been sold.

Jonas was leaving for this club or that club and what happened? He signed a new contract.
Demba Ba will leave this club at some stage and so will every other player but the question is WHEN.
When he gets sold or decides to leave, we will hear about it from shy sports or from the official site and until anyone sees that, just treat it for what it is. SPECULATION.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve walked into the pub and the lads say ” he’s gone eh” and I say who? and they say name after name starting with Tiote, colo, Cabaye, Ba , you name it and they mention it and bye the way only half a Newcastle fans, the rest of them are into the top clubs..Basically glory boys.
My answer to them is simple and straight t the point , I say ” stop reading fairy stories and concentrate on your trophy teams”

The response I get is funny because they bite like hell and shout” here I’ve supported Man Utd all my life” or “I’ve been a chelsea fan/ Liverpool fan/Arsenal or whetver fan since so and so days” hahahahahaha.

The top and bottom is this….If Ba leaves or Colo, or whoever, then there is nothing and I mean nothing we can do about it, so why worry.

Pardew isn’t building a team/squad just so clubs can have a better choice of raid….he’s building it because he is confident that he will have a team that’s gonna be fighting at the right end of the league for bigger spoils each year , which means we then become the bigger club that other players want to play for.

The downside to getting to that peak is that we will lose the odd class player from time to time and it’s how we replace them that’s the critical part but we haven’t done bad so far, so why should it be any different in the future.

    Have faith. 😀

      (Quote)

  13. Robert, after they beat Wigan they were 6 points behind us and saying ”where’s them 15 points gone?” If we beat QPR and they lose to Chelsea, all very plausible then it will be back up too 12 again. But I’m sure that won’t as their squad is better on paper!

      (Quote)

  14. This is a strange one. Nobody else except Stoke was even interested in him in the summer. Now nothing but rumours. Since we don’t know what’s in the contract and the club aren’t going to make it public (especially if it’s bad news for us) there is nothing to say really. In a smaller case look what happened to us with Neil Taylor of Swansea. We claimed there was a 1M pound release clause and tried to trigger it with a bid. Does he play for us now? No he’s still with Swansea. So it could well be the same with Ba. Clubs may sniff around and put in bids but it depends on the actual wording of the contract. So I plan to stay calm until a bid is actually tendered. 😉

  15. Much as i hate Arry’s constant player approaches via the media every window , on this occasion he never bought it up. I watched that interview on ssn ,it was his press/ con and a jurno in the room asked if he was awear of Ba having a release clause. He said ” yeh , that’s what we’re all hearing “. Fact is Karen Brady ( bitter much ) let the cat out the bag on twitter saying he had it with WH and he’s got it with Newcastle and she hopes he shows us more loyalty, Anyway make of that what you will but i think she’s the root of all this bollocks.

  16. Vuckic looks like he could be a real powerhouse but as others have said he needs time and games. Loan him out to a good Champs team with the proper type of manager. Why not Birmingham with Hoots? Would love to see how he would do for half a season.

  17. Kimtoon,

Think you have hit the nail on the nail on the head there.

BA has said he is happy, staying and focused on us. I will just have to believe what he says (despite the vast majority of footballers having no ethics) until I hear otherwise from him….rather than listening to a wannabee Del Boy Trotter!

I think he is happy with the adoration an loves the French connection with his team mates. It is all about money at the end of the day though and I hear his wages are proportionate to his appearances.

      (Quote)

  18. RICHIETOON – Book yourself a flight then mate, even if you don’t have a contract to offer you could go over and sweet talk him, bit of a rub down before/after training, that kind of thing 😉

WHUMPIE @ 71 – good summary pal, couldn’t agree more – no way sack face would make Ba’s supposed clause public if he was interested. Hopefully we’ll get him to sign new terms and when he continues to be class we’ll get a huge fee for him if/when he does leave.

      (Quote)

  19. KimT….He’s also said this since …….But asked about a £10m release clause, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp said: “I think you will find it is a lot less than that.”
Asked if was as little as £7m, Redknapp added: “Even less than that.” 👿

      (Quote)

  20. Richietoon- Really ! hadn’t heard that. Christ he really is a **** of the highest order. 👿

      (Quote)

  21. Moreno- I think you make a valid point there .Ba does indeed seem happy with his French pals alongside him .The key point though is what is the clubs (ASHLEY’S) ambitions as this is key to any of our best players staying. If we are happy to amble along in mid table safety then it’s no surprise if all the best players want to leave.M.A needs to make a statement of intent by 1. not letting our best guys leave at any price and 2. signing some more players who will show existing players we want to push on for a possible european slot.Finaly our current wage structure may also be a hindrence to obtaining a top notch player so rock and hard place spring to mind. Basicly we are looking for proven quality players who are happy to play for the shirt more than the money ! and sadly we all know what a rare breed that is.

      (Quote)

  22. I agree with Whumpie. I just don’t get why Redknapp would be so public about it if he was interested?

      (Quote)

  23. It’s all a nonsense. Anyway who would we sign that “shows” intent, and is gettable. Our back 5 are fine, the 2 CM are internationals. Jonas HBA & Ba up front, Marveaux to come back, kids coming through. What more do you want, in January.

Dont get me wrong he has been a star at the toon this season but i disagree in him talking about his beloved club he would like to go to !! We only got him in the summer and hes talkn about another club haha

      (Quote)

  27. Bottom line lads ‘n’ lasses , old Arry is **** scared of us as are a lot of other clubs. We got lots of good up and coming players and i reckon most top clubs interested in Cabaye ,Tiote ,Colo Ba ,Krull ,Saylor etc .Lets face it we not far off a top quality club just need bit more strength in depth that’s all and all on a shoe string budget too . theyr’e all fookin well jel as they say in essex. Got to say though a bit miffed at Ba talking about PSG like.

  30. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding this release clause, and I’m sure we will find out the truth in the fullness of time.
Here’s my theory though, I believe there will be a release clause in the contract, which the club can activate at there discretion… ie relegation or the player not wanting to discuss a new contract.
The one thing we can ALL be sure of is that this board will not be caught with their pants down (well maybe on a drunken night out in a Chinese restaurant)
They signed the player on a free transfer when the likes of Stoke had already turned their back on him. Their is no way this board would have listened to Bas agent laying down demands about get out clauses in contracts, and certainly not as little as £10m or less!!!
I take my hat off to the board for not entering into a media war with the melted wax work… give the ****** enough rope to hang himself. That said, it really doesnt make sense to me that. Why would Redknapp say that?? If he had an interest it would make sense to keep it to himself… time for theory no. 2.
Spurs have wanted another one of our players, maybe Krul, and have basically said, giz him at a good price or we’ll **** you over!!
They were told Krul would be silly money so Spurs spill the beans.

I’d love for Ba to come out an say “I’ve been made so welcome by Newcastle and their fans and am enjoying my football there. I’d want to say and repay the faith they have shown in me”
I’d like to hear that, what I heard was PSG? aye why not?!
This will be the headline or transfer rumour that always crops up until Ba either leaves, the club make a statement explaining his current contract or he signs a new one.
We need to remain focused on getting in the player(s) we want in… which will probably be similar to the players spurs will probably be looking at

Ok. We will for a laugh. Poopsy the golden ticket you got in your Xmas cracker is not real.

In fact, Derek and Mike are nasty people. They told everyone in the real world they were. 😯
They tell lies and deceive the fans. The tribunal told us so. 😯
They treat Alan Shearer and Keegan abysmally. They told us so. 😯
They said they would reinvest the £35m back into the club. The records show they haven’t . 😯
When the club was in turmoil and we had 6 managers in 4 years and fans were dismayed, Dastardly Derek streaked on the pitch after the game and roared with laughter as we suffered at the demise of our club. 😯
They got us relegated with no plan but hope. 😯
They changed our stadium name, steeped in tradition for a profit of zilch. 😯

Those are the things we know of. Can you imagine the things said behind closed doors.
