Game On! Newcastle v Bolton – Captain Colo returns

Game on at St James' Park
A quick turnaround awaits Newcastle United now as they go looking for their fifth win on the spin against Bolton Wanderers this afternoon.

After playing patiently and diligently in our 2-0 win away Swansea on Good Friday, Alan Pardew will know that this time around the onus will most definitely be on us as the home side to ask the questions.

Bolton are teetering above the drop zone at the moment with just a single point separating them from 19th placed Wigan. Coming to St James’ Park on the back of a 3-0 home defeat to Fulham a mere 48 hours ago, Owen Coyle will be keen to see his side recapture the kind of form which, previous to the Fulham game, had seen him side win three games in a row.

As we’re getting towards the “business end” of the season and now we know where we are aiming for, I thought I’d add a little look at who our rivals have today. For the sake of clarity I’m discounting anything above third and below sixth! In short, Tottenham host Norwich City at White Hart Lane in another 3pm kick-off, whilst Chelsea travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham this evening with kick-off at 8pm.

If we better Chelsea’s result we’ll go fifth today and if both sides win we’ll stay sixth by virtue of goal difference. That kind of needs addressing as it effectively gives the teams above us an extra point such is the difference between our goal difference and the rest. A good hammering of Bolton today would help that a treat of course, but it’s also games like Tottenham and Fulham away which have hampered that particular stat.

For a more in depth look at the fixture you can peruse my match preview by clicking the blue text. Basically it discusses team news, injury news, form and previous meetings, with a few fun stats thrown in there for good measure.

That’s just about it really. Oh yeah, for a change we’re not being broadcast live here in the UK so if you happen to find a useful link where people can watch the match, and are willing to share it with your fellow NUFC fans, then please feel fee to paste the link for it below.

  1. Wheater holding Williamson there.

That is what pisses me off. That was a penalty against Sunderland, but not now?

if Ba is unhappy with winning, he should not be a part of Newcastle

  3. We actually dont even deserve a point here, christ. Luck that davies/eagles haven’t finished well at all

  4. Bolton look far more likely to score… How we can outplay the likes of Man U and Liverpool and get outplayed at home to Bolton and Wolves.

  5. People need to shut up on Ba now. He’s experiencing a loss of form, that’s it. Do you really think if Ba went to Pardew and asked him to change a winning formation for him he would? Don’t be daft. Stop trying to create dressing room dramas.
    Embarrassing bloody fickle football fans.

  6. I hope Ba is angry because he has caused this ***** performance and totally needless formation change…

  7. Sorry, but public displays of petulance like that need dealing with. You don;t just fob your manager off like that in public

His substitution reaction was rubbish, but STOP WITCH HUNTING OUR PLAYERS.
We literally are just speculating on why we have changed the formation, maybe it is because Bolton play with 5 mids?

  9. @Dave, I agree with you on the sub reaction.
But everyone moaning that Ba has caused the poor performance because he asked to change formation need to get a grip.

  10. Solano,

I have no doubt in my mind that Ba’s attitude has has some influence in this formation change…
Does that mean I don’t support him? Does that mean I’m a fickle fan? No… It’s my personal opinion…

He has been petulant publically twice now and its not good for the club. If you don’t believe me ask Man City.

  11. Dave – I understand ST’s point about changing formation. A bit far fetched that one in my opinion but each to their own.

However you simply can’t defend what Ba just done. Who the **** does he think he is? Does he not realise he has been ***** today?

  12. Oh, what a great goal… My word Harem “Beardsley” Arfa. Brilliantly done…

I said we have the individual skill to get through this performance, and there it is!!

So much more effective in a centre role.

    Lets not condescend now.
I haven’t stuck up for Ba’s reaction to being subbed at all, i didn’t even mention it in my initial post!
I am just saying you cannot create rumours out of thin air, none of us have any idea why we changed formation, so lets not vilify a player because we think it’s because of him.
