Game On! Wigan v Newcastle – Toon unchanged again

Game On at Wigan
Welcome one and all to our ‘Game On’ article which today will see us travel to Lancashire to do battle with Wigan Athletic.

Around 4,500 Newcastle fans will be present at the DW Stadium this afternoon, and it would have been more had we had a larger allocation of seats.

Unfortunately the request for extra seats was turned down down, which I don’t really have an issue with. I mean why should Wigan hand any advantage to us when they have their own agenda to worry about? So 4,500 it is then, which is still not shabby at all and I can vouch from personal experience that those travelling will have an excellent day regardless of the result!

I’m expecting a tough game today. Wigan may have lost last weekend but they’ve been in great form these past few weeks and have given themselves a real chance of staying up when it looked as though they were certs for relegation. Wins at Arsenal and Liverpool along with a home victory over Manchester United have helped their cause no end.

In contrast Newcastle are looking to strengthen their hold on fourth place and know that a win would see them go six points clear of fifth placed Tottenham and seven points clear of sixth placed Chelsea, both of whom play tomorrow.

For more in depth analysis and preview of the match, why not try reading statto’s Stat Attack or my match preview. Both provide statistical analysis ahead of the game, with news of any injuries, potential team news and landmarks that can be achieved through the game.

Team news will be added below as and when it becomes available so keep your eyes peeled. Also keep your eyes peeled for any decent streams of the match and share them with your fellow NUFC fans if you like. Unfortunately it’s not on the box anywhere other than overseas so share the love people.

Howay the lads!

  1. Christ that’s pathetic defending… Twice. The only man doing his job is Colo. The others are all just ball watching.

  4. To be fair Wigan have took the game to Manure arsenal and Liverpool ,so we can’t be surprised. Moses on a hat trick now so he’ll be well up for it ,gonna let us know what we missed out on. 👿
If we can keep it to 2.0 have a sort out at half time and try and get a couple back.

  5. I know it’s been an INCREDIBLE season but ive Hated all the ‘we’ve shaken up the premier league’ and ‘we’re really confident’ talk during the week. Why not say nothing like we had done all year. Don’t forget ‘Ashley wants CL’

  6. still think we can win this one. We just need to play in the ground and not hoofing the ball with Krul

  7. Brendan-agreed. We don’t perform under pressure, why put it on ourselves? We should have kept at it quietly

  9. Danish – Three at the back (Colo, Willo, Simmo), two wing-backs (Jonas and Santon) three in the middle (Cabaye, Tiote Benny) with Ba and Cisse up top.

  10. The thing that bothers me is Al Habsi is in great form it will take something special to get past him.

  11. Dave – Hmmm. I’ve been left wondering why so many fans have been treating this game as a given all week. Smacks of the deluded tag we had started to shake off.

  12. Is this game rigged?? It’s like the players have been paid off to defend like five year olds. 🙄

    Wigan deserve their lead.

Wigan arnt bad, but they not as good as we are making them look today.

There’s no movement, no patience, no defence… It’s pathetic.
