Doing a deal for de Jong?
It would seem that Newcastle have sent a delegation over to the Netherlands with the aim of sealing a deal for FC Twente pair Luuk de Jong and Douglas.

And if you believe what the Mirror has to say on the matter it would also appear that NUFC have been quoted a price of £16m for the pair, which I think isn’t a bad deal.

Of course it’s easy for me to say that as it isn’t my money, but these are two players we’ve supposedly been looking at for a while and it would help sort out two positions for us that need strengthening in terms of attack and defence.

However FC Twente boss Steve McClaren insists that it would take a “silly money” offer for his star striker to move clubs this summer.

“Every player has his price. Luuk de Jong is a fantastic forward, but he is only 21 years old and it would be better that he has one more season in Holland before he moves to the Premier League,” said McClaren.

“We have already sold a forward to balance the books. There is no financial pressure for us to sell.”

Unfortunately McClaren said much the same thing before Edin Dzeko left Wolfsburg for Manchester City which kind of shows how much sway a manager has. Sure he may want to keep de Jong, but money talks in the boardroom and at the moment we have our representatives in their boardroom. Allegedly…

More speculation or signs of action? Who knows, time will tell all I guess, but for now we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with regard to the whole de Jong/Douglas situation although it’s well worth pointing out that the transfer window is now officially open!

  15. Yep, saw the banter from last night Ice….. I have tried mud crab or mud **** as you call it 😉 they can be caught much further north from where i am and I agree they are a treat.. i love all sea food, we have a type of fresh water crayfish caught around my area called a marron… they are bee knees as far as i am concerned… really really nice chewing. but as you aluded to last night, it does’t matter how good it all is, if you have too much of it, then it loses it’s appeal… still it beats the **** out of kfc or the like 😀

  31. I see Hoilett as a back-up option to De Jong, would be a good signing if we can get him, can play that LW spot if Ba leaves and the ST/CF spot when the Cisse goes to ACON with Marvauew coming in to play on the left.

  71. Andy just remember that sometimes you’ll maybe get a bit of stick from ones that maybe don’t agree with what you write, but just shrug it off and don’t let it get to you 😉

  74. Alright lads, I’m back on here after having to take my A Level exams during June and the last couple of months I’ve been revising hard so that’s why I haven’t been on here for a while. It’s only a brief appearance back as I go on holiday on Tuesday for a couple of weeks but after that I’ll be writing more reguarly.

    I think if we can get De Jong and Douglas then that would really strengthen our squad. I think though if we did sign De Jong this may severley affect Ba, he hasn’t scored for a while and I wonder if the arrival of another striker may see him leave the club. I hope that isn’t the case because he has been a revelation for us whilst at the club.
