Newcastle 2-1 Tottenham – Match highlights

Match highlights of our opening day win over Tottenham for you all to enjoy now, including a rather cheeky back pass from Steven Taylor to Tim Krul!

As I’m sure you’ll have read and indeed seen, it was hardly a vintage match from our perspective but we have three points to show for it which is the aim of the game I suppose. We scored more goals than they did. Canny difficult this football lark isn’t it?

Joking aside, the win reminded of how we started off last season in truth. Solid yet not spectacular but we still managed to grind out results. To do that with a bunch of players who have hardly played in pre-season isn’t bad at all in my mind and means that it can only get better once they all get up to speed.

Howay the lads!

  1. Kim-Yup, exactly. Hey, I’ve even been annoyed at Cisse when he’s missed easy chances, which he seems to somehow-particularly 1v1 under no pressure. But he’s a god at finishing pretty much any other non chance so hey, I’m not complaining 😉

Like you say, some of the stuff fans said about him/to him on twitter was unbelievable. Fair enough players have to take stick along with the praise, but such insults “I fucking hate you, you’re not even a CC player, you lost us the game vs Arsenal” just embarrassing to be honest. I think some of it, like the twitter abuse, is just kids being stupid and because they don’t get turned on by Simmo strutting his stuff they have to go have a hissy fit 😉

Some of it is because people just don’t rate him, fair enough, everyone has opinions/players they don’t like. I just hope people lay off him a bit, because there’s no way it’ll help him perform or help the squad as a whole.

I will deal in facts not abuse.

I call your judgement of players into question (whereas I still play to a decent level – you appear not to)

Is it not true that less that 6 months ago you were slating Ben Arfa – saying he was useless and should be sold?

I will trust ex-players opinions who have seen and know a player – above ‘JJ – blogging footy pundit’ who thought Ben Arfa was shocking.

Maybe you need a find a bike shop that sells bikes with backwards pedals. 😆

Dying for you fella – yikes

  3. Stards – Take no notice of JJ, fella. I’ve heard that too about Tayls. I’ve spoken to older people who knew him at school and through his schoolboy football and they say the same. Apparently he’s a chip of the old block.

I did once meet him myself outside the ground signing autographs for young fans. This was when he was getting national honours but before he was in the first team. I didn’t know who he was, so I asked him. Tayls just gave me a bit of a look. This young fan gave me the background, whilst Tayls kept aloof and continued to sign. I said, “well I’ve never heard of you”. He didn’t look too pleased. Top player though Stards. Shouldn’t let his personality cloud your judgment.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion without receiving vulgar accusations.

If everyone did that then it would be a **** forum.

Dusty is only stating how he sees it and it’s fair comment even though he’s wrong. 😉

  5. Stardy deal in facts I think the ex reserves you knew were maybe Jealous 😉 or they know a lot more than Physco Stu as he was a mainstay of the England U21’s 😳 so not bad for a gash player
As for ” I still play to a decent level ” yeah mate I heard 😆 😆 the school kids beat rings round you and constantly nut ye 😉

Troy how good a player is the Gulper and I don’t mean when he’s playing the local under 12’s 😆 😆

Got no problem with people giving opinion, just don’t like when they state bullshit as factual proof…

  8. Stardust,

You basically just proved my arguement against you by mentioning my Ben Arfa blog…

“I will trust ex-players opinions who have seen and know a player – above ‘JJ – blogging footy pundit’ who thought Ben Arfa was shocking.”

Nowhere in the article did I ever say that Ben Arfa was shocking… Yet you state this as fact.

“Is it not true that less that 6 months ago you were slating Ben Arfa – saying he was useless and should be sold?”

Again, no where did I say Ben Arfa was useless, yet you use this in your arguement to discredit me… 🙄

Read the article… 😉 and stop embarressing yourself.

Ps. Out of interest, I write my ‘blogs to spark debate and discussion, they don’t nessessarily just reflect my opinion, but aspects of my opinion, with a counter arguement that will encourage interaction with anybody reading the article.

So next time you “tell us” what others have said or written, it might be a bit more believable if you didn’t discredit yourself by lying so much and twisting the truth to strengthen your debate…Just like you have done, so continuously that it has become nauseating with the Steven Taylor debate…

  9. Love Stardust resorts to saying I lack class and then completely lies and reverts to abuse himself because I hurt his little feelings… hahahaha.

Fair enough to accuse me of having no class. I never had have class, but at least I’m honest 😆

    Anyway, its past midnight here.

    Stardy,
I apologise for hurting your feelings with regards to calling you a “*****”, despite the fact that I do think your are a *****, I shouldn’t be resorting to being so open about it on a friendly ‘blog. So I do apologise… I did lack class 😳

    Can we be friends?

  10. JJ @ 166 well done now just move on and don’t let him get under your skin, because he is a bit fond of getting under peoples skin 😆 😀

Batts I still can’t believe he said that to you 😆 that was rather classless of him the rotter

      (Quote)

  11. Sorry Batty,

I cannot respond to that post, as you are dead to me, and men of my class. 😆
One thing I can’t stand in life is a liar Batty, it riles me to the highest degree.

    To say:
“JJ – I will deal in FACTS not abuse”, and then go on to tell lies. Well that shows a complete lack of class to me…

I’m willing to forgive him though, for the sake of the blog. And just read his posts as a joke/fairytale/fictional fun in future, but I don’t see how anyone could respect him. 😆

Show me where I said Ben Arfa is useless? And I will officially apologise and admit to my lack of class.
Of you can’t… then you admit you lied, and I’ll forgive you.

Well, just to answer a couple questions.

Some are saying they don’t understand my comparison to a young Ronaldo at Man United. I think the similarities are very evident.
Like Nobby compared him to Santiago in The Game…

And I’m only critical to stir up debate. It’s construtive criticism. I too feel however that once Benny has some more mobile intelligent strikers and perhaps Gabby and Marveaux in there he will be far far more effective.

In the current first XI however, he is a luxury. If that makes sense.”

  18. Dave,

They’ve made a big hoo ha over that, and rightly so I guess, but when you have a Chief of Police that goes on national television and instructs police to “shoot to kill” then you can only blame the government.

The police where threatened with pangas, but I guess the full truth will be hidden like most things and swept under the carpet.
Sad for their families. They get paid nothing and the goverment steals billions. That’s Africa. Good and bad in extremes.

    JJ.   January 2012
Finished an article giving my views of Ben Arfa earlier today.

Personally, I think he’s overated and we should sell him in the summer if a decent offer comes in.

Would much prefer a player with greater team ethics.

  20. JJ

I aint got one iota of intention to research the exact time and date you said what and when. Got better things to do. I do know that I remember key things and that’s my understanding of your view on Ben Arfa. I find it cringeworthy your now trying to change your position as Benny plays great.

I believe Troy is of the same opinion about you.

  21. Nite JJ, I’m off too, though will probably be back in an hour when I can’t sleep. Mind you I fell asleep instantly last night after all the activities of the three days away in which I only got a few hours sleep each night cus the other bastards were making too much noise 😡 .

  22. @Stardust
I can’t remember JJ’s exact views on HBA in the past, but his blog article he posted was bang on the money at the time.
Proof is in the pudding. HBA wasn’t a team player which is why Pardew wasn’t starting him ahead of the likes of Shola and Obertan despite him being fit!

      (Quote)

  23. Got to be honest JJ’s comment about selling him shows how wrong he is tho.

We should be building a team around him, not selling him.

The age old argument goes on about the lack of caps Marsh, Le Tissier and Hoddle got. It’s an English mentality that highly skilled players aren’t team players therefore are not good enough.

He needs to improve on this aspect but it should be us who develops him and not another club.

      (Quote)

  24. Got to admit I never really bought the team player line…I mean alright, he doesn’t work as hard as Jonas, but then in our entire team-neither does anyone else. I always felt that he simply wasn’t defensively very skilled, rather than lacking any sort of “team ethic”-indeed, he often tracked back but then gave away silly tackles because he just isn’t that great a tackler, nor is he very strong-indeed he still does.

He’s definitely not comparable with Robert, who like SBR once said took about 20minutes to get to the halfway line after taking a corner 😉

Ultimately it was just that on the wing in a 4-4-2 he’s essentially wasted. A bit like he was last night at first where initially our whole team seemed shackled, then after we went a bit more 4-3-3 and he could roam, he used his magic, got us a penalty, scored it and won us the match.

      (Quote)

  26. It’s always fascinating how people see different things in a game, different performances, etc.

I thought Ben Arfa did some good things. He had some nice touches, did a few eye-catching dribbles, won a penalty, scored. However, he also stood on the ball, miskicked, ran into trouble, made bad passes.

Just about everybody had high points and low points (though I can’t now recall any high points for Cisse) but, generally, just about everybody on the pitch was off the pace, I thought.

I also think Spurs were the better side 😯 if my memories of my emotions are anything to go by. They were far more dangerous in attack and I recall having my heart in my mouth many more times than I jumped out of my chair at our near misses, and anxiety was extreme at the end there.

Maybe a read through our contemporary posts in the Game On section would be telling of how we all felt at the time rather than in hindsight.

We deserved to win – but only because we scored the most goals. 😛

      (Quote)

  27. @Begas

I believe the vast majority are agreeing with your views, aren’t they ?

    @Harrogate Geordie

I believe theres more quality in this team and squad than SBR’s side.

We weren’t that good if Bellamy was out whereas take one player out of this team we are still capable of scoring.

      (Quote)

  28. Cisse will get some serious attention this year with man to man marking and doubling up on him. He is no longer the surprise package. This will free up space for Ba, Benny, Cabs etc and I predict that he’ll still hit 20 goals. He’ll need to learn to drag defenders around and create space for his mates.

On the Benny debate he had 2 hard core injuries to recover from last season and was only 50% early doors. He will be one of the top 5 players in the EPL this year and will light up St James’

  29. @HG

I agree but can’t believe JJ stated in January this year that he would sell him. 😯 😛

  30. Troy

I’m still not convinced you and Stardust arn’t the same person, as you both have the same ability to twist and quote out of context to suit your poor arguements.

I still to this day believe that Ben Arfa, as the complete package, is overated. He has remarkable talent and create something out of nothing. But he just isn’t consisntant enough yet to be considered a world class talent.

If he was, he’d be a regular for France.

The reason why he isn’t is because he isn’t consistent enough, and still needs to mature a bit in his team play.

Nobody has ever questioned his individual brilliance. I do think he has improved massively with better players around him, but he still has a lot to prove before I believe he is as big a player as others believe.

There is a HUGE differenece between, “overated” and “useless”…

Just like you said, Cabaye didn’t appear to be the “class” player everyone made out, but you’d give him time… I believe (after two seasons) Ben Arfa still is a long way from being consistant enough to be considered “world class”.

If were critical of others for twisting your words, yet you do the same thing. 🙄 🙄

      (Quote)

  31. Troy,
I said I would sell him if he doesn’t show some improvement to his work rate and if he didn’t look more effective with more mobile stirkers.

I think there is no doubt he has improved in this regard. Still think he needs to be more consistant though.

Are you denying this is what I said?

Dont be like some extreme religious cult that forms an arguement based on a single extracted verse mate… You may convince some, but only the weak 😉 Really thought you were better than that… Don’t be like Stardust now… hahaha

      (Quote)

  32. @JJ

I’m not Stardust and I’m not using his words. They are his posts not mine. I’m just asking you whether you said in January you would sell him in the summer if a decent offer came in?

    Did you or not?

      (Quote)

  33. Troy,
I said, I would sell Ben Arfa, if he failed to adjust his game to the team eithic we had, and continued to play too much as an individual.

I think thats fair, because Pardew said something much along the same lines. He has shown enough improvement to stay, as he is an asset. But he still has some way to go in terms of consistancy to be the player some supporters make him out to be already.

Are you willing to admit that your mate Stardust lied, when he said I said Ben Arfa was useless?

      (Quote)

  34. Hope you’ve sobered up JJ – you’re language was disgusting last night. Fortunately I hold the moral high ground on you and I forgive you. Looks like I have more class too 😆

You’re still weedling like a worm like a worm though – man up for gods sake and admit you were wrong – we’re all waiting ‘drums fingers’

      (Quote)

  35. @JJ

Sorry, you obviously posted a reply at the same time as I posted.

JJ I’m not being like Stardust it’s just I’ve been watching your debate with him and I’ve asked you about this before and you’ve never answered it properly.

In January, you posted one post on a thread stating you would sell him in the summer if a decent offer comes in.

You did not back it up at that time with if he improves on his team game then I would keep him.

I’m just pointing out what you said at the time and asking you to confirm it.

There’s nothing wrong with calling a wrong shot. I got it wrong that buying cheap unknown players would backfire.

So just admit you called it wrong in January and we can move on and it is only fair to Stardust to balance the debate as he is questioning your ability to identify a good player.

      (Quote)

  36. Troy,
As things stand, and based on his performance against Spurs and towards the back end of last season – of course I called it wrong on Ben Arfa.

He has single handedly won us four or five games with individual brilliance.

There are two things to consider though.

1 When I write posts, articles, they are there to spark debate, I want people to argue both sides, if I were to write articles where everyone agreed, and there were no contentious quotes, it would be a boring thread…
2 Ben Arfa has been at the club injured for two seasons, I think at the time he was clearly rusty, or trying too hard to impress fans for their support during his time out. I still do have a fear that he can be too much of an individual, but with the improvements he has shown, it would be stupid to sell him now for anything but silly money and because of his improvement, to arguement to sell him has been proved incorrect.
Nobody is more pleased than me…

Stardy angered me because he didn’t misunderstand me, he simpy lied and failed to apologise. 😆

      (Quote)

  37. Stardust,
Sober as the Pope and I still think you’re a *****.

Personally, I’d be far more concerned if my kids were liars like you than used stongish language like me… 😆

So a retract my apology from last night. I must have been pissed to apologise to someone who shows your lack of class in the first place.

Can we move on now? 😀

      (Quote)

  38. @JJ

That’s fair do’s and it was a reasonable response but I just wanted to balance the debate.

I don’t ever recall you saying he was useless btw.

I know Stardust. He is serious about having the moral high ground over you but he is a gulper eel. 😛 so it evens itself out.

  39. I don’t know whether its an English thing, but for people like Stardust, it appears to be who comes up with the best metaphor, declares himself the winner of a debate…
It doesn’t seem to matter whether your arguement holds no factual consistency or substance.

Oh well, as long as they feel good in their own head I guess. The problem is, to the rest of the world, they just seem like a ***.

Otherwise if all else fails, just tell the guy he bit hard on the trap you set… 😉 😛
