Game On! Everton v Newcastle

Game On at Goodison!
Premier League action returns once again shortly when Newcastle travel to Goodison Park to take on David Moyes’ Everton men.

It’s going to be a toughie and Newcastle will have to play at a level we haven’t reached thus far this season if we are to return to Tyneside with any points to show for our effort. I don’t hold out much hope anyway…

It also seems that Everton are riled up by Alan Pardew for some reason. They seem to believe he has disrespected them and several of their players, headed by Phil Jagielka, have come out and said that they are eager to set the record straight this evening. Just as long as Marouane Fellaini’s elbow hasn’t heard about it we should be able to deal with it.

The issue is over these words said by Alan Pardew last season: “Forget about Everton and Aston Villa, we have put ourselves in a similar position to Arsenal. The one security I have is that Mike Ashley is a difficult seller. He is not going to let someone go for £7m, he is going to want top, top money.”

Now maybe I’m just being flippant but I don’t really see anything wrong with that. Or maybe Everton see themselves as being in a similar position to Arsenal themselves? I don;t know, either way it’s just, well, silly…

Anyway, back to the match. If you haven;t already done so you can read my perfectly crafted match preview which details injury news, previous history between the two team, some stats and a stab at team selection from yours truly.

Which just about wraps this up really. Newcastle will need to up their game considerably if they are to stand any hope of repeating last season and it needs to start as soon as possible. Will it be tonight though is the question?

As ever, team news will be added below as and when it becomes available.

  1. JJ agree 100% regarding Obertan, why the heck isn’t he on the right hand side where he can use his pace. Marveaux is left footed ffs and way off the pace.

Poor tactics and choice by Pardew is getting us a 1-0 battering so far 👿

  2. He had time to sit down and read the sunday paper before he took that shot. He should have hit the target.

  3. Get to half time at 1-0 and we’ll get back into it, 2-1 I reckon. Haha, eternal optimist here 😛

  4. I’ve only seen the lad play twice but seen enough to know marveux is not a wide player. Where is this player people were writing about last night

  5. If we get to half time only 1-0 down we’ll still be in with a chance, ptoviding Pardew can get his tactics right… 🙁

  6. Dave.
Agreed. Wish our players were as committed and energetic as Evertons.
They are superior in skill but not in footballing ability.

Moyes gets them to play some great football.

  7. Anita sold Perch a hospital ball there ffs. Really poor….

    I cannot believe it’s still only 1-0…

  8. Anita to right back. Perch to centre back.

Willo off… And Overran for Marv. OR get Benny and Marv to switch sides.

    That’s my opinion.

  9. Lets not lose sight of the fact Everton are a very good side. Never going to be easy. We could have scored 2 ourselves today if not for aweful finishing. We really need to sort our midfield out. They are just not getting a grip on the game at all.

  10. We have way too little quality in midfield, and are carrying at least three players today. We are really missing Tiote, he holds the team together.

  11. Agree about Marv ,had hoped he’d fair better than this . Everton remind me of us last season ,full of confidence and playing without fear. I think a lot of teams will of been encouraged by our performance last season to go for it this time out.

  12. Draw was always going to be a good effort.

Only thing that bugs me is seeing Pardew getting his tactics so badly wrong.

When he does, the games arnt even close, we get murdered.

  13. We beat spuds ,Lost to Chelsea and drew with Villa ,the one thing all 3 games had in common is we were poor for most of all those games and it continues tonight. 🙁 I’m very worried tbh we look a shadow of the team last season so far. Here’s hopeing for a better 2nd half anyway.

  14. To be fair (And I am a staunch defender of Willo) – Willo was backing off and picking up nobody for the goal and the other example Neville showed us. Didn’t close down space, didnt pick up a man – just disappeared and let them in. Not good enough.

  15. We have looked like a team with no belief in itself. Too many players looking to others to do something with the ball…

  16. JJ@109 ,To be fair our defence was well solid for the first 13 games until Saylor got injured . Yes we had some luck but no way luck alone and playing **** most the season gets you 5th.

  17. We’re getting found out.
We need a serious reassessment of our team and our targets.
This could now be 8 games without scoring a “real” goal. We can’t keep relying on individuals to make up for the lack of team fluidity. F**k signing new players, the ones we have look like they barely know each others names.
People can whine about Debuchy etc not signing. But at the end of the day, last two games we’ve let in a goal a game. We should be able to score two.
We have two French internationals and a Dutch international in central midfield. we should be able to retain the ball and control play better.
    Painful.

  18. Anita already has done more in two minures at right back than he did in the whole of the first half

  19. YesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssGoalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllget in Ba 😀

I never said we played ****. I just think Everton play a more attractive brand of football. Their movement and energetic play is great to watch.

We were effective but not often attractive.

  21. He served us well last season Dave, and the season before – however he’s had a shocker today and if there is 1 position they cocked up on during the summer – it was central defence for sure.

  22. Sham he had Colo to cover his *** last year but when Colo wasn’t there he was found out 😉
When need to keep at them now and don’t sit back

  23. Great change by Pardew, Baines has been nullified and Ba and Cisse are scaring the Everton defence. HBA is seeing a bit of the ball, but he is not on his game. He is the one to unlock the defence tonight… 1-2 toon….

      (Quote)

  24. Colo did not make his tackles for him though 😉

Moving on – Baines is a top notch player. Could be in one of the elite sides easily.

      (Quote)

  25. Cisse could have pulled the ball down there. Demba would have done better there with his nimble feet…
