Game On! Everton v Newcastle

Game On at Goodison!
Premier League action returns once again shortly when Newcastle travel to Goodison Park to take on David Moyes’ Everton men.

It’s going to be a toughie and Newcastle will have to play at a level we haven’t reached thus far this season if we are to return to Tyneside with any points to show for our effort. I don’t hold out much hope anyway…

It also seems that Everton are riled up by Alan Pardew for some reason. They seem to believe he has disrespected them and several of their players, headed by Phil Jagielka, have come out and said that they are eager to set the record straight this evening. Just as long as Marouane Fellaini’s elbow hasn’t heard about it we should be able to deal with it.

The issue is over these words said by Alan Pardew last season: “Forget about Everton and Aston Villa, we have put ourselves in a similar position to Arsenal. The one security I have is that Mike Ashley is a difficult seller. He is not going to let someone go for £7m, he is going to want top, top money.”

Now maybe I’m just being flippant but I don’t really see anything wrong with that. Or maybe Everton see themselves as being in a similar position to Arsenal themselves? I don;t know, either way it’s just, well, silly…

Anyway, back to the match. If you haven;t already done so you can read my perfectly crafted match preview which details injury news, previous history between the two team, some stats and a stab at team selection from yours truly.

Which just about wraps this up really. Newcastle will need to up their game considerably if they are to stand any hope of repeating last season and it needs to start as soon as possible. Will it be tonight though is the question?

As ever, team news will be added below as and when it becomes available.

  1. Man the referee really excelled there for 2 minutes. Absolute shoyt. Clear goal for Everton, it was miles over the line, and a clear run on goal for HBA pulled back… 🙄

  2. At the end of the day, Everton are pretty poor in the final third… they have had some unbelievable chances..

  3. Saylor why did you let him turn you *** ? 2-1 fooking brilliant…

Fook man Harper looked old there….

  5. Well done lads. Great result. Bit of luck involved from decisions, but we had clear chances we fluffed ourselves and Benny was clean through – so all in all a draw is a good result against a tough side away from home.

  6. I only saw the second half, so don’t know what we were like in the first but I thought we looked sloppy with so many changes. Have to be happy with a point the way it ended, not an easy place to go even for the likes of Man U and Everton will be right up there this season. So I don’t think we should be too down, the green shoots of recovery were there for all to see and we must kick on now and get the points on the board from the weaker teams.

  7. Woo hoo happy with that ….they reckon oba refused to come on as sub tho at the end, hope it’s bollox

  8. Well it might not have been a great performance from us but we deserved a point after the way we played 2nd half .

  9. I heard it was all Everton first half which doesn’t suprise me given the way we start games. I think their **** went in the second half, 😆 we pressured them, got a goal and could have scored more even though we were ‘lucky’. Cisse has started this season really poorly IMO, an on form Cisse would have scored tonight as well as Ba.

  10. All day I felt bad about this game. It just had a 3-0 drubbing for us written all over it being an away game on a Monday night I was pessimistic When Everton scored early I was not surprised.

We showed such great character. Shola contributed more in his short time than Cisse did all game. If Ba can dropped perhaps we also need to drop Cisse. The Ba Cisse partnership requires someone to be unselfish but both are extremely selfish.

  11. One thing that alarmed me was the non reaction of Cisse when Ba scored our/his first goal . Have a look at the highlights , hope i am not reading too much into it but he never even smiled let alone run over to his team mate .

  12. Second half was the best we have played all year. Still sloppy. But so much more passion!
Pains me to say Harps is past it. Just doesn’t seem to have any confidence.
Anita – Perch switch worked very well. Should continue that until Simpson back I think.
Why are we destined to only ever have one Demba scoring 👿

5 points is a decent return off those games.

  13. @Axel
I think some players can’t help but feel moody if they aren’t playing well. We all read quite a bit into Ba looking moody last year and it turned out there was noting in it.

  14. Good second half from us.
I think Anita must play right back far better than when he plays as a midfield. Perch was really good.
If we play with 2 strikers, Shola must play.
But Benny was really poor today and what a missss, he doesn’t have the right to miss a chance like that.
But at the end, Everton must be very disappointed, 2 big mistakes from the referee

  15. FSOTC I can’t remember exactly but was asked about not starting and he said there was a few things ? but maybe it’s just his grasp of the lingo

  16. I thought Harper showed a cool head (like always) and good experience, slowed it down while not getting booked, had to deal with sloppy stuff from Taylor/Willo. He has a good rocket up the pitch and not much he could do about the goal. Apart from that he was ****. 😛

  17. SOLANOSTRUMPET well your right their m8 and also i did see Cabaye smile a few times after not looking happy in the first 3 games .

  18. DJG

Marveux who you was raving about last night got hooked at half time. Its centre midfield as part of a five or nothing

  19. i actually thought Harper played well ,lets not forget one of his defenders was Willo and that would scare any keeper 😀

      (Quote)

  20. Axel ,But watch Cabaye for Bas 2nd he was really happy , I feel much happier about his state ofr mind now having seen that reaction.
I knew Shola would provide for Ba ,very unselfish player .

  21. I agree that there doesn’t seem to be that togetherness. Is it because last season these players were effectively nobodies in the premier league and in the case of Cisse/Ba now they have had prolific spells of scoring. I just wonder has their heads expanded a bit. Ba and Cisse just look to me like their both trying to be number 1 scorer rather than play in a team game. Only when Ameobi comes on is there unselfish flick on’s in the box etc. 😕

  22. @DJG
Haha no. But it’s something that the scouts need to have in the back of their minds.
    Right who’s pretending to be HBA39 ❗ 😆
Agree though. Shola is necessary in 4-4-2. You can’t play 4-4-2 if you aren’t capable of winning balls in the air.

  23. Re, Ba there seems to be something going on there, what was his comment all about when interviewed, Cisse looked non to happy when Ba scored.
    Something to sort out.

  24. FSOTC I don’t buy that mate I think it’s the players that are starting off looking as if they don’t give a ****, it seems that they have to be told to fuking wise up at half time before they come to life. Pards just said that the players looked as bad in the 1st half as he has seen them 😕 but the 2nd looked as if they wanted to win

  25. Marv was ripped apart tonight and didn’t look as good as Jonas even though lots said he was better than Jonas, but maybe just a bad night for him
