Game On! Newcastle United v Manchester United

Game On at St James’ Park!
Amidst all of the rumours about stadium renaming, there is the small matter of a football match to consider this afternoon.

St James’ Park will be rocking once again this afternoon as Manchester United come to town, and with an international break coming up after this game it’s a match that both sides will be wanting to win.

Really it’s a match that needs no build up. It’s one of the bigger games on Tyneside owing to our previous tussles with Manchester United in the mid-nineties, plus there is the fact that over the years they have been the team to beat in the Premier League which makes them a scalp in the eyes of most teams. Call it a symbol of their success.

Anyway, whilst I do respect Manchester United and all they have achieved over the years, it’s Newcastle United first and foremost that is the priority of all of us this afternoon as Alan Pardew and his own (proper) United side look to build on the promising display against Bordeaux in midweek.

The match preview for this game is located here so you’re just one click away from everything you need to know about the fixture including injury news for both sides, stats, facts and random thoughts about the game itself.

We are live on Sky Sports this afternoon which is great if you aren’t able to get to the match to watch the game. If you have Sky Sports then obviously you’ll be laughing but if you don’t then there are dozens of overseas channels showing the match so I anticipate no issues regarding availability of streams. As is always the case though, if you find a particularly good one then please feel free to share it with your fellow NUFC fans and post a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

Which neatly wraps this up. Team news, as ever, will be posted below as and when it becomes available.

  1. Hasn’t been a great start. We really area team of individuals this season.

I was begging for Fergie to play but NOT at left back against Man U ffs. He should be on the wing whipping balls in…

    This was so predictable…

Our defense, especially the back two is pathetic.

Pardew’s tactics wrong again but we have absolutely no depth in defense.

  2. Well if we insist on playing half asleep for the first half every fecking match sooner or later we was gonna get spanked. looks like this is the day chickens come home to roost .

  3. Pardew just plays the same team the same formation. A broken clock is right twice a day. We need to setup either to exploit an opportunity or paste over a weakness. We do neither. Trying to fit a square into a circle shaped hole every game.

  4. Stuart ,exactly and just to heap further misery on the Toon faithfull we can probably look forward to Wonga too 👿

  5. should of had simpson on santon at left back and shola and ba up front ,we will get thrashed thrashed i say 😆 😆

  6. Can any of you armchair tacticians please tell me which super formation would paper over the fact that the players have struggled to pass two yards to each other?

    I’d like to know.

Sometimes tactics mean jack ****, especially when players just fucking switch off like they did for the goals, or just in general in this half.

  7. I’ll be shat on by Toonsy 😉 for criticising him but Willo wasn’t picking up anyone at either corner.

  8. The only reason we are seeing a little more of the ball now is cause Manure are sitting deeper defending their 2.0 lead. Let’s try and exploit it a then.

  9. Kim….look on the bright side, wonga will only be on the shirts, the commentators can still call it SDA 👿 😥 😥 …….so I’ve heard anyway.

  10. Toonsy,
Said last weak if we were going to play hoof ball against any team it was Man U.

Shola had to be up front and Fergie had to be on the wing.

Our **** defence Pards can’t help because we have no squad depth. That’s Ashley’s ignorance.

  11. Those little through balls, decent long shot and good defensively for me means that Jonas is perfectly suited to playing centre mid… He is definitely no longer a winger.

Fergie is a winger, Definately not a fullback.

  12. The effort is there but the marking at set pieces is a joke. If we can get the first goal next half it will be game on!

  13. Well we started of depressingly ***** but have come into it over the last 25 min, hope Pardew gives them hell at half time.

  14. I think Shola should come on to hold the ball up better as the midfield is not getting control of the game. Every time they have a corner they have looked like scoring, Williamson just isn’t strong enough, hope the people that criticise S Taylor are watching.

  15. Well toonsy@ We all know we are carrying Cisse one does not need to be a rocket scientist to know that. Pardew seems to not know though.

    1. Ba and shola should have started not because that will win us the game we could still lose though it would be logical selection.

    2. We all know we have a terrible habit of starting slow. Drop Ba into a five man mid and play deep with Shola alone upfront to try to ride out the early pressure caused not by a brilliant Man U but due to our always starting slow.

    3. When we have seen a bit of the ball and are a bit comfortable on it then we bring Ba more and more forward depending.

Pardew is showing me he thinks tactics don’t matter just players do because his system tactically is illogical but system is typically what a gambling man would choose.

  16. Sky nailed it for me. Williamson at fault for the first. Lost his man too easily. Jonas at fault for the second for never even bothering to track Evra after pointing him out because nobody was marking him.

  17. Not buying a quality CB is looking a real act of stupidity now. Wilo looks like a rabbit in headlights and they look like scoring at every set piece imo. Got to really go at them second half now which will leave us open to a counter attack. 🙄

  18. Michael12 – So can you tell me how your ubertactic gets round the fact that the players couldn’t even string a pass together?

Bear in mind the start we had, what difference would strikers make? We could have Pele and Eusebio up front but if they aren’t being fed the ball it wouldn’t make one bit of difference.

The players, ALL of them bar none, started off slow. That is not a tactical issue. That just happens some time. If anything it’s a motivational issue which you can PARTLY blame Pardew for, but to say it is pure tactics is telling me that you are just simply talking out of your ****…

  19. Can’t see this thing ending with 11 men for each side.

Thought we were far better than them after 20 minutes or so and maybe a goal was coming, but they have so much fire power up front they’ll hit us on the break. 2-4?

      (Quote)

  20. Man U have played a lot better than last time though, can tell they are hurting from Spurs at home and Fergie has had the hair dryer out before it even started. Our lads just haven’t defended strong enough, they will need more guts than this in the derby.

      (Quote)

  21. We just need to continue. Pardew changed the tactics and we were the better team the last 20 min. Hope for the best

  22. Thing is, as much as I think it was in, keeping my balanced head on it wasn’t clearly over the line. Even the replay hasn’t helped so how can the linesman call it.

Unbalanced, the linesman is a **** who needs shooting 😆
