Game On! Newcastle v Swansea

Game On an St James’ Park
A rare occurrence indeed, well in terms of this season anyway, as United play their first regulation Saturday 3pm home kick-off of the season against Swansea City this afternoon.

Hopefully with that we’ll end up with another rare occurrence this afternoon, that being three points for the home side and maybe, just maybe, a decent performance to go with it.

I dare say that the performance just doesn’t matter today though. The only thing that really matters is getting three points on the board whether that be through a good display of our own or from a dodgy deflected own goal I’m not overly fussed. We just need to start getting points on the board especially after the home defeat to West Ham last week.

However we have injury problems to contend with which you can read about in my match preview if you haven’t already done so. You can also read some stats and facts, a history of the fixture, any injury news for Swansea plus some random thoughts ahead of the game itself.

The game is not being shown live here in the UK but it is being broadcast on quite a few channels overseas. If you happen to come across a decent stream then by all means leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will, as ever, be published below as and when it becomes available. There might be a small delay in it being published as I don’t finish work until 1:45pm so I’m just leaving a bit of room for manoeuvre. It all depends on how kind Brussels and Amsterdam are to me.

Howay the lads!

  1. And here comes the inevitable “Ashley should have signed rubbish”, yeah that isn’t in question, but once again the 11 out there should be capable of winning these games. Absolute awful.

  2. well I’ll be the first to say it ,we look like relegation fodder at the mo ,no way we ever look like scoring unless a moment of magic. 0.2 at home to a team that ain’t beat us in yonks just like with the Hammers 👿

  3. For me Pardew has big responsability in this Season. Trying to play always the same style. And some players with stupid mistakes and red card Like Tiote and Coloccinni. You justt cannot do nothing with players like willo, Anita, Fergie, Sammy Ameobi and even shola. You just need to hoof the ball, but when you dont have the luck you will loose.

  4. Beaten by 2 average(at best) teams at home, that makes us a below average team, I think we should be more worried about finishing bottom 6 than top 8

  5. Good job Pardew has been given an 8 year contract isn’t it!!.
We are and have been fucking ***** this season, Pardews top 4 – **** off man will ya, we’ll be well to finish top half this season the way we are playing.
Reckon last season was the sun shining on a dogs ****!

  6. What the hell does our training even consist of. It’s basically give it to HBA and pray.
At least last season even when we weren’t creating you could see the organisation training benefiting the defense.

      (Quote)

  7. I wonder what excuses we’ll hear for that ***** ❓ last week it was Tiote that would have made the difference, so maybe its Cabaye that would have made the difference ❓
    Or maybe it’s just that we’re *****

  8. meh, disappointing stuff. I’m confident we will get a decent run at some point in this season and we’ll snatch top10 finish. But the current form is just below par.

  9. 27 shots and 1 goal scored is atrocious in itself, it’s not like their keeper had a blinder 👿
    Time to get pissed

      (Quote)

  10. That was a disappointing result. We’ve played worse and won. Swansea just too clever on the break and we don’t have the nouse to break down a defence.

  11. I somehow want to blame pardew… How does he actually set up the team…. 🙄 🙄

Honestly speaking, we got cisse ban from playing, Shola best ability is just strength presence.

We only left ba… And team not getting 3points, So WHY DONT USE XISCO…. I dont care whether he is **** or what, at least is an option there.

I am not even saying consider nile ranger. 👿

      (Quote)

  12. Steverd – Maybe. At least he tried but I still dont think he, or anyone, played anywhere near well.

Pardew will take a lot of blame for it but don’t let the players off scot free. There were just as *****

  13. Sorry but how any of the ameobis start over Marvaux i will never know same goes for bigirimana over abeid. football is simple pass and move and we dont seem to do it. its embarrasing.

      (Quote)

  14. Here we go, lets all blame Anita, Ameobi’s, Willo and Simpson. I actually thought Sammy was playing well just in behind the striker, we would of won that game if it wasnt for Krul’s mistake simple as that, im sick for idiots making scape goats!

  15. If I was jittery about our season after last weeks result then I’m in a right flap now .14 points man and christmas only 5 weeks away we’d need 3 wins to be on 23 at xmas and halfway safe . Can anyone see 3 wins out the next 5 games cause I can’t ,if we are lucky we may have 17 or 18 at most by xmas day. 👿

  16. Great counter attacking game by Swansea. As disappointed as I am in this result you have to give it to their execution of their tactics today. Textbook away game tactics. Great to watch in it’s execution.

We went forward a lot not because we were great but because it was Swansea’s tactic to invite us forward for their counter attack. I was not sure they could execute it but they did and very very well indeed. My hat off to them.

We dug this hole for ourselves because this was supposed to be a game to simply avoid defeat with injuries we have but to do that we should have had 6-7 points more at this stage. The game became must win.

I feel sorry for those that went to the game, we just want to do well!

I warned you. You buy cheap you get cheap results. 😉

  18. Instructatoon ,No individual scapegoats from me they were all ***** ,no point having all the possesssion if you create **** all with it. Feel sorry for Andy and Cornish travelling upto and down to Toon for that.

  19. Nothing new here, useless, in fact I would go as far as say that every league point we have picked up this season could easily have ended in defeat.

There is something seriously wrong with our formation, we better get it sorted out soon or we·ll be in the relegation dogfight for sure.

      (Quote)

  20. Norgaard – pleased you’re confident mate coz I’ve seen nowt yet this season that would suggest our fortunes will change – not with this group of players we have anyway.
To tell you the true, I fear were more likely to loose players in Jan than get many in. I can see Ba, Benny and alikes missing out on European football next season!!

      (Quote)

  21. @Troy that’s strange, Michu only cost 2 Mill 😉
Tbh I the coaching staff and Pardew are struggling to juggle the extra matches. There’s no game plan.

      (Quote)

  22. MM aswell as something being seriously with our formation, there is something seriously wrong with the team in general 👿

Troy don’t forget the regime knows what they’re doing, they will not pay over the odds and will swoop in in Jan and get the players we need and get them cheaper than they were in the summer.

      (Quote)

  23. Instructatoon…You can’t call people idiot’s for making scapegoats of certain players….then make Krul a “scapegoat” yourself, surely? 😉 …anyhoo, Benny was probably the pick of a bad bunch, my scapegoat is pretty much the rest of them, including Pards…..Beer time, for defo now

      (Quote)

  24. INSTRUCTATOON @ 185 everyone on here is entitiled to their own opinion even if you think its wrong, without you calling them idiots.
If players are at fault then they should get stick, cause if they play well they get the credit for it 😉

      (Quote)

  25. Big D, you·re dead right mate…

Sharpy17 is onto something really worrying there. God hep us if Benny or Ba get poached in January.

I have a real bad feeling about this team, “team” being used in the loosest sense of the word…. cannot see where the next win will come from…

      (Quote)

  26. We were given a football lesson there today. To soften the blow seen a top top class player in Michu. He was a joy to watch

      (Quote)

  27. You gotta hand it to the Baggies doing a Newcastle circa 2011/12 season, flying high in 4th on 23 just beat Chelski 2.1 too.

So it’s Swans above us and dropped 2 places today and 5 points off bottom 4.

      (Quote)

  28. MM ,I really believe Benny and Ba will do one in Jan if things don’t improve ,Benny for pure football reasons Ba for the paypacket. Also Santon is being linked with Manure now. 👿

      (Quote)

  29. @Sharpy
I think that’s inevitable regardless of how well we do this season. We are going to have to get used to that over the next few years, as even if we qualify for Europe, it’s Europa, not exactly glam. If we consistently qualified for Europa the next few years HBA etc would still leave imo.

      (Quote)

  30. Newkie @203 😉 To be fair if he goes he needs to take 3/4 of the team with him ,oh and Lamearse too the bolshy tw**.

      (Quote)

  31. Some big errors by the manager today. starting Simpson and Williamson. why did he bring Bigi on. a defensive player who is just a bairn. Jonas was a huge miss but at least Tiote was back.
Why are we persisting with dinking high balls to strikers with their back to goal. Its the sort of football seen in the park.
Agree that Benny and Demba won’t hang around if we play much more of those tactics

      (Quote)

  32. @KimToon:

AP:”The fans were great but I think they seen we had a good application to the game. We just lost our shape. We’re missing a lot of players”

    😉

  33. Next up second from bottom Saints ,that won’t be easy as they fighting to survive and beating QPR today will have instilled a level of confidence that our boys will soon be lacking.

      (Quote)

  34. In all seriousness though, that 8 year deal was such a strange move, certainly doesn’t look to be paying off…

      (Quote)

  35. Newkie ,Could be a case of stability causing complacency maybe but more likely too much believing in your own hype from Pards and the players lately .

AOD@210 ,that’s odd considering Cisse ain’t scoring like 😆 not a peep out of him about too many long hoofballs to anyone and everyone ,no matter which side you play for 🙄

      (Quote)

  36. Fair enough the idiots comment was stupid, sorry for that it was in the heat of the moment. I just thought that we actually played ok today, if it just wasnt for that unfortunate error from Krul we could have won. Also in my opinion Sammy could be a really good player for us, home grown geordie and still so young, yet sometimes i think he gets an unjustifiable rough ride, young players like him need to be given a chance before they are just written off.

      (Quote)

  37. could literally go out and batter some fooker raging about everything but pardew needs time he hasnt gone from saviour to getting the sack in a couple of months

players werent brought in by fat man he begged and pleaded and its still going on

to many players not good enough u can only carry a team so far with average players… willo Sameobi nee full back oba … the cracks are there to see anita looks out of sorts but im not blaming pardew…. i remember veron one of the best midfields in the world at the time .. came to the premiership and died on his **** so u can never tell

      (Quote)

  38. INSTRUCTATOON yeah after a game like that it’s easy to say something in the heat of the aftermath 😀 but unlike you apart from 5 – 10 mins I thought we were **** yet again in a must win game

      (Quote)

  39. Kim @ 213 yeah I agree and I think the fact that most of our players feel safe they think they can get away with performances like that. for most of the season we don’t look like a team as we can’t even seem to pass the fuking ball more than twice, for me Willo is still a real worry for me I seen a stat about his pass rate being good ❓ not a bit of wonder he normally passes it back to Krul who then has to smash it because he doesn’t have time

      (Quote)

  40. Pup @ 215 😉 on Sammy I still think he looks like a headless greyhound, but he shows odd glimpses of raw talent but for me he doesn’t have the head to go with it

      (Quote)

  41. (THIS IS A GOVERNMENT HEALTH WARNING. THIS POSTER IS LIABLE TO DISAGREE WITH YOUR POINT OF VIEW. ONLY ENGAGE IF YOU AREN’T SENSITIVE AND DON’T TAKE HISSY FITS)

    @Trumpet

But how can Cisse soar like an eagle when he’s playing with turkeys. 😉

      (Quote)

  42. Swansea showed us how effective tactics can be. We certainly have better individual players. They have a more measured and tactically superior manager.

      (Quote)

  43. Does anyone else get sick of Benny trying to beat the entire opposition team himself?

He was without doubt our best player today – but he was dispossessed when a pass was on a little too often for my liking. Or when he crossed for Shola at the death when Santon and… Bigi…? were unmarked for a cut-back.

I can see why passing to Shola et al all day would make you question why you should acknowledge their presence in your team, but Benny’s no miracle worker. If he spent half as much time playing through balls as he does trying to take on every player on the pitch, we’d end up with more clear-cut opportunities per match!

      (Quote)

  44. Blip I have seen him playing loads of passes in previous games but normally no one else is on the same wave length or he makes a break and no one is there so he has to play about with it waiting for someone else to come up and help out.
So until our players sort their **** out I won’t blame our best player for losing the ball

      (Quote)

  45. Instructatoon @214 ,Don’t worry mate we are all fuming ,it’s good to let off steam. Actually you make a valid point re Krul ,not in so much his error costing us the game as I think we’d have lost anyway ,but in the fact that he actually made that error in the first place .It’s amazing how a few off form players soon infects the whole squad ,this timelast year Krul was masterfull winning us sooo many points with great saves ,now he looks average at best 😯 . We have also seen chinks in Colo’s armour and Cabs ,has been off form even Benny is under par for him.As for poor Cisse god knows whats wrong with him. Young Sammi looks good in fits and starts but my worry is he’s a copy of Shola but at the moment pace is on his side. Tiote is also still sailing close to the wind too with tackles and BA looks like he’s not getting quality service ,we can’t blame Cisse for getting in his way today.Yes he scored but they was 2.0 up by then and it was too little too late.
